First time trading RCI for DVC

Interesting. They've historically given the view and unit type deposited but have the right to change it if they want. While they may have been mistaken on the overall process (managers at a resort aren't really that familiar with this issue overall), it's just as possible that MS gave you the incorrect info originally.

I assumed that MS HAD given me incorrect information since Kidani insisted that ALL trades in to Kidani by RCI members receive standard view rooms. I'd be curious if that is true or not but really don't have any idea how to check the info I was given.

Anyone here ever trade into Kidani and gotten something other than standard view?

I have not exchanged into AKV yet. But, many others have reported Savannah view assignments on exchange. Weeks confirmed exchanges at one time used to include the Unit Code, which designates view (as well as size and check in day). For example, 1BRSAVSU is a 1BR, Savannah view, checking in Sunday, while STSTDFR is a Studio, Standard View, with a Friday check-in. They may still include these designations on the confirmations for all that I know.

That said, I have had stays coded incorrectly in the past. The process seems to have a few manual steps. It is possible that someone goofed something somewhere, and as Dean points out, it is within an RCI resort's rights to change your view at their discretion.

I have. We had two 1 BR there a year and a half ago. One was SV and one Standard. I know there have been other posts of Savannah view as well. I would expect most deposits to be standard and as I noted, they technically have the right to change the view if they want.

Where would these "codes" show up on a reservation? From RCI? On Disney's website?

ETA: I think I found it? For BCV I have: 2BR 8/6 SAT 2 BATH F Decoded: 2BR, Occupancy 8/6 private, Sat check in, ???? What would 2 BATH F mean? (besides it has 2 Bathrooms? then what would F be?)

Our confirm for Kidani said 1BR 4/4 FRI 2 BATH F
Doesn't say what the view is from what I can figure out.

It was MS that told me the view was Savanna view when I called to get the DVC reservation number so that I could check in online. RCI never told me one way or the other what the view would be.

On a Weeks confirmation from RCI. Here's what mine says from a recent BWV stay:

Unit: 14U
1 Bedroom FULL Kitchen
Sleeps: 4 Maximum/ 4 Private

BWV confirmations are only Preferred Pool/Garden, so the unit code is just size (S, 1, 2), sleeping capacity (4, 8), and check in day (F, S, U).

If you are coming in through Points, I believe the Unit designation is not on the confirmation sheet, but do not know for sure.

I have RCI points, how many points for a week at Disney? Where can I check availabilty...is it online?

The code on your reservation (1BR 4/4 FRI 2 BATH F) indicates that you have a 1BR (sleeps 4 with privacy for 4), with Friday check-in. The unit will have 2 bathrooms and a full kitchen.

Correct, I had a one bedroom at Kidani. But MS told me it was savanna view when I called them for the applicable DVC reservation number. When I checked in, they told me all Kidani reservations were for standard view only.

We traded our RCI timeshare for AKV Jambo next March. The confirmation shows a standard view. Is it possible to request a savannah view? If so, how? and when? I am not clear on what DVC info also applies to RCI trades. Thanks!

How did you trade? Did you do it online, or by calling? I've never seen AKL online.

That is correct, no unit designation on the RCI for points, even RCI doesn't have the info. BWV gives some standard but mostly preferred.

You could always call back and ask what it should have been.

I've seen AKV online plenty but much less of late.

I traded online. In fact there was one available just a couple of weeks ago. Studios are more often available than 1 bedrooms.

If you want to know the view of an AKV unit you should ask RCI for the Unit description (ex. STSTDSA is a studio, standard view, Saturday check in). I called RCI on the unit available a couple week ago and the lady told me it was a savanna view because the resort description mentions the savanna. Just in case I asked her for the unit description and it was a standard view.

FYI, we enjoyed the standard view every bit as much as the savanna view we had last time.

I would NOT have enjoyed the standard view villa overlooking the bus stop AT ALL. I am an owner at AKL and plan to never have any view other than savanna view when I am there. Part of the joy for me in staying there is watching the animals from my room. Finding them at night in the dark, watching them first thing in the morning, seeing them fed in the late afternoon. We had the "pig parade" on this last trip when the 3 red river hogs tended to walk past our villa at 10:30 pm at night. Can't get that in a standard view villa.

Those are the type of issues one has to deal with when exchanging, basically expect the worst and hope for the best. This is true both trading in to DVC, but even more, when trading out. Views are seldom guaranteed and many resorts often tend to actually punish exchangers. Most tend to give exchangers lower priority for unit assignments. It reminds me of when my daughter went to HI and I was telling her not to be upset if she got the parking garage view. She called me the morning after they arrived to tell gloat about 5th floor ocean front.
