My DH and I decided that we should probably take the kids to Disney World at some point, so I started looking. Of course, I'm totally overwhelmed with all the information and abbreviations being used. It probably doesn't help that DH and I are dreading the entire trip. Our boys are 2 and 4, so we'll probably wait a few years. We'll make this trip only once so I'm trying to figure out what the ideal ages are for Disney World. I went when I was 6 and I remember thinking I was too young at the time. Of course, that was 26 years ago and I'm sure things have changed.

The only definite thing I know at this point is that we'll be taking our Airstream down and camping while we're there.

OK, I'm off to do more reading.

Our first trip my son was 7 and my daughter was 3 in 2002. For my son it was a fun trip, but for my daughter it was tough, she did a lot of sleeping in her stroller. We went back when my daughter was 7 and my son was 11 and that was a much better trip. We realized how much we had missed at the parks from our first trip. We've have turned Disney into a yearly trip now since 2007 and each year it gets better as the kids get older. We enjoy the same rides and exhibits. Although bringing them when they were young was definitely "magical" for the kids as they get older it becomes just as magical for the parents. Don't know if this helps much, but I don't think you can go wrong. Disney thinks of everything!

I was thinking that 8 and 10 would be good ages, but friends of ours go every year and they said we were insane. Of course, their boys are 3 and 5. They always come back and tell us how wonderful their trip was and in the next breath they are telling us how difficult it was with young kids. It seems like they really have to limit themselves to deal with strollers, nap times, and short attention spans.

There are just too many opinions out there.......Here's ours..we began our treks to WDW in 1977, son was 5 years old and there was only one park, move on and daughter is 18 months and brother is 12 years old, with quite a few trips under his belt. All these trips were priceless....we went from the children's view, based our trips on them, not us. If they wanted to play at the resort all day, so be it. I see more adults wanting to get full value from their tickets and remaining in parks well past a toddlers tolerance it bewilders me on who the trip is for. We're into trip 43 now, children married and on their own but still make a trip now and then with them and still enjoy WDW more and more each trip. Tiring, never, we don't commando a Disney trip but relax and enjoy all the world has to offer besides the parks. We're headed down this late fall with our daughter and son-in-law and our new granddaughter who will be 1 year old and those memories will be priceless for all the adults. The child may not remember in time but for the moment they are ecstatic, the new sights and sounds and she will rule the trip, what she wants, she gets. Waste of time, money taking a toddler that young, I think not, just her indoctrination into the magical world of Disney and a life time of pleasure from a place where all of us have grown up and continue to return year after year.

Really this forum is nice. What do you say?

Welcome! I'm new here, too, and I agree - this forum is nice :disrocks:

I am learning quite a bit by reading so many posts.

I don't mean to come off as being negative about Disney. It's not a dream trip for my husband and me, but we want the kids to have a wonderful time. We like to do 2 big vacations a year and 6 to 7 mini-vacations, so traveling on the cheap is really important. Disney and cheap don't usually go together, but I'm finding some money saving tips. That makes it look a lot more appealing :thumbsup2
