Hi Everyone!

So glad I found this board!

I'm coming to Fort Wilderness for the first time in February and my family is so excited! I could use a little help this time around though.

We booked a premium site, and I want to request a loop and a site. I know there's no guarantees, but they told me they'd try. Anyway, I have a special needs child who does better with when he's a little away from it all. So we always look for secluded sites with as much grass to play on as possible. From the map it looks like the 900 loop may be alright, but its hard to tell from the map and there are no site numbers.

Would someone be kind enough to make some suggestions as to loops and sites? Space and privacy are top priority, and we're not bringing the dog.

Thanks everyone!

Bill

Congratulations on being down there in Feb. Going to be a few of us down there during Feb. You can request a loop with early check in, you can not request a specific site. We were down last year and stayed in 1400, and it is nice. Not sure about the 900 loop, maybe some of our others have been in 900.

Just stayed in 900 this past October. Did 1400 also, I guess 900 felt less crowded than 1400. Behind 900 and 800 is a canal with an open area between the woods and the canal, maybe 20 feet. Not much grass, but open straw and leaves. Across from site 920 (where I stayed) is the trail over to the primitive camping area. If it is empty, you will have a whole lot of grass to play on. I'll post some pics tomorrow for you.

IMO,1100 has the most secluded and larger sites. We are here now, will get you some site #s as soon as the rain stops.

My preference is the 400 and 500 loops, but I am always requesting pet loops. Done the 500 and like it, very close to the dog park which my Aussie loves and needs. 400 is just next door, have not stayed there yet but requested it for both trips this year.

400 is a good loop for proximity to the beach and restaurants. We stayed in it in 2012 and liked it, but not a lot of grass.

OK, across from site 920 is a path that leads to the primitive camping area.

At the end of this short path is a bridge leading over the canal.

This is the area I referred to behind the 800 loop. Not grass, but open.

If no one is staying in the primitive area across the bridge behind 900 it is a lot of room back there.

Sorry, I'm a picture kinda guy. The 1100 loop that Denise referred to is a nice area as well, I had forgotten it, but have not stayed in it. Maybe she can get you some pictures to show it off.

First off, welcome! There are no grassy sites at Fort Wilderness. This is the typical view from a camper. Mostly pine needles.

Some more secluded sites are 1103,1104,1106,1122,1124, and 905,915.

Wow, you folks are terrific. Thanks so much for the help. I think I'll request the 900 loop on the back side.

Tiggerdad mentioned the 920 site. If there were a map I could find with sires and numbers I wouldn't ask this, but what sit sites do you recommend on the outside back of the 900 loop?

Bill, you can request a loop using Early Check-in which becomes available 60 days before arrival in My Disney Experience (MDE). There is no place to request sites on it but you can ask the CM who checks you in (even if you get a site assigned to you and can drive straight to it, stop and talk to a CM at the Fort Check-in area) to see if they can move you (if needed) to one of your desired sites. Obviously, if it has someone camping on it, you are out of luck. But 800 and 900, for example, for the sites on the outside of the loops, can open up to some pretty nice nature views and you aren't stuck staring at the back of someone else's camper 20 feet away.

Here is a view of the sites in 900 with the Meadow Trading Post just off the bottom of the page and the brown building between loop 900 and 1000 is the Comfort Station there. "In" means it is on the inside of the circle (one way from the bottom counter-clockwise) and "Out" means on the outside of the circle. Pretty straight forward.

We like 900 loop too when we stay Premium as Tiggerdad laid it out. The backside of 800 is similar and it is a bigger loop (more sites to choose from).

Good luck with what you get.

This picture is exactly what I was looking for. Thanks so much.

I checked in and requested 900 loop. The think 921 or 915 would be perfect.

Bill, I might have missed it, but what dates will yall be at the Fort in February? We're there Feb 6th thru 13th. We're also banking on loop 900. Hopefully everything works out with your stay!

We are now in 904 & really do like it. We have always stayed in the 700 loop, but I think it is too tight. Welcome to the forum & safe travels. We enjoy camping @ the Fort starting the 2nd week of February.

Thanks so much. This is our first time and I think I'm more excited than my kids!

We checkin on 2/14 and check out on 2/19.

Sure wish I could figure out how to add a profile picture! I'm usually good at this stuff . . .

believe you need to have at least 10 posts before you can

We used to stress over picking sites. We visit the Fort at least three times a year and have only once wished we were somewhere else (our site in the 200 Loop was too tight for our liking). We sometimes just request a loop because we bring our pets, or are hoping the same "holiday decorators" are staying in a certain area. Upon check-in we ask the CM to assign us a site on the back part of a loop, away from the bus stops. We have never requested a specific site number and not been disappointed. We have discovered some areas we really like. More often than not, your neighbors will be the most important factor impacting your enjoyment, rather than the physical site. We've met some great people!
