This weekend I am going to Epcot. I'll be eating at
Teppan Edo. I don't know what to get. Does anyone have any favourite items they get? And what should I expect? How would you rate the food? Thank you!

Its all great - just pick whatever meat you like. I generally get surf and turf for the variety. Apps and desserts are unnecessary because the meal will stuff you right up!

We did it in September! :) It's pretty much just like any hibachi restaurant, if you've ever been to one. I really like shrimp, so I asked for just hibachi shrimp (which isn't really on the menu) and they had no trouble with that.

Get hibachi and just pick your favorite protein. Also ask for lots of the white sauce.

Have you ever been to a local hibachi place? It's the same general menu you find all over.
Our chef at Teppan Edo had even been working at the place we have in our town before he moved to Disney

Blech! Or give it all away to your DH ;)

The food is quite good and every chef we ever had was an excellent showman, show woman one time. Your experience my hinge on the others at the table. One time our extended family filled the table so it was like a private party. Two other times stand out. Wifey and I shared a table with a family from La. The husband was out going and seemed to enjoy himself, the teen age kids clearly wanted to be anywhere else but there and the wife seemed to be overly concerned with the cost of the meal. We said 'hi', they returned the greeting and that was all that was said between us. Another time it was the 2 of us, 2 couples from the mid West and a business man from Holland. We sat at opposite ends of the table, exchanged hellos after which the businessman talked the ears off the others, they clearly wanted to be left alone to no avail. We enjoyed all of our meals there but some of our table mates, not so much at times.

I always go steak/shrimp or chicken/steak.

it's the same thing you get at your local hibachi. I will say this - if you have a choice of dessert, get the ginger chocolate cake. Not only is it delicious, it's the best value. The cheesecake and ice cream is small.

Steak and shrimp is a good choice. The shrimp are often an amusing part the "show."

And I second the ginger chocolate cake! (It sounds wierd, but it works, really really well!)

I love eating at Teppan Edo at the end of a week at WDW.

Everything is in balance, not over-the-top salt or grease of most typical Disney food. So I leave Teppen Edo feeling great!

How long is the dinner from sit down time to exit? Will a 7:30 ADR get you out in time for illuminations on a friday night?

We arrive this Friday @ noon for 8 nights at the yacht club. We are eating at T Edo for the first time Friday night. Forcing ourselves to try something new instead of expected. Normally we would eat at Beirgarten. We love Hibachi style places at home, so we are sure to enjoy a Disney version.

That's close. It depends on what time you're actually seated. I have to be seated for dinner at the actual time of my ADR at about any good Disney restaurant.

Just another note - we used to always eat at Teppan Edo with our group at Epcot. This last trip we took, we wanted to try something different, and did Biergarten. Super good. We now have two favorites, and we're kinda the opposite of your group. I'm sure you'll enjoy Teppan Edo - good stuff. Its just more common out in the real world, these days.

I've been wondering about this as well. I'm also wondering, and this may be a stupid question, but… how do I tell what's what on the menu? Is this comparable to the food you can get an a local hibachi grill, or is it like hardcore Japanese hibachi?

I just thought the food was ok. However, the sushi was pretty good. The sushi comes from next door at Tokyo Dining but is available in Teppan Edo. I also got just shrimp.

Definitely not hardcore or extremely authentic Japanese. It's basically hibachi/stir fry on the grill steak, chicken, or shrimp and comes with veggies, noodles, and sukiyaki rice (stir fried rice, sort of, with beef).

Ahh okay, thanks. Had to look at the menu and try to use google translate to figure out what the words meant, haha. There are still some that I am not so sure of.

It's the same exact menu items
Like I said, we sat down and our chef asked everyone where they were from. When we said Chattanooga, he said "Me too". Well, he was obviously not native to Chattanooga and he quickly corrected himself to say he had just moved a few months ago. He worked as a Hibachi chef at our local hibachi grill. The show they do and the menu they serve at Disney is the same exact thing we get at home, which I suppose is why he was able to easily transition to Disney.

That's my biggest hesitation with booking this for our trip. We eat at Hibachi restaurants every 6 months or so and I just don't know that it would be worth the Disney markup. When at Disney, I try to eat at places that offer a unique experience either in the way of food options or character interactions.

We did it once and won't go back. I really prefer Benihana or any other hibachi place that I have been too. However, if you are looking for a fun meal for kids, then the hibachi part is fun. I am not disappointed that we did it; I just wouldn't go back with all of the other interesting places that we haven't tried at Epcot.

It was unique 25-30 years ago. Its not so unique now. But they do a nice job of it. It was our go-to for a LONG time because we usually have a big group and its fun having a private table and chef. But we tried Biergarten last trip, and that was also very fun, unique, and good food. We'll go there again, but also try some of the others - I've heard good things about Via Napoli for big groups too.

We went to a local Hibachi place with DS4 a few weeks back and he was captivated the entire time.

Absolutely it was. When I was a kid, doing something like that was a Disney only experience. Benihana probably existed but for my parents, that type of meal was a special occasion reserved for a vacation. I'll never forget the vanilla bean ice cream Teppan Edo served when I was a kid. No other vanilla bean I tried after that ever came close.
