First time Cruizer

Okay.....since you guys seem to vote Cruise for the wedding anniversary...which I love the idea of....

This will be our first cruise......is the DCL actually worth the extra money? I am leaning that way just because of our Disney Love, plus....I hate casinos, and dont really need to be on a ship that has them. Even though we are childless, the DCL seems to have more of a family atmosphere for good clean fun. I am also hesitant about the whole cruise experience from a seasickness, what if I hate it and I am trapped on this boat perspective.

I have heard that for a first cruise you should take a short one- 3 days. Is that possible?

We cruised on the Disney Magic and had a great time. We knew there were cheaper cruises out there but we booked Disney because of our kids. We just thought they might enjoy it better being Disney etc... The ship was beautiful. Rooms were nice. Seasickness? We had no issues with that at all. The newer ships all have stabalizers (like wings on an airplane) that pretty much eliminate that unless you have unusually high seas. I don't think you have to worry about that. As far as feeling stuck on the ship?
No way. There is so much to do that won't be an issue either. I think you will love it. When we cruised Disney it was our first time also and we wondered how we would like it and we loved it and can't wait to go again. However, to be honest with you the next time we cruise we will definitely consider another cruise line like Royal Caribbean and that is because of the cost. Disney costs too much in my opinion for what you get. We don't gamble either but it wouldn't bother me if a ship has a casino. Nobody is forcing you to go to the casino.

The problem with three day cruises is there is a lack of imaginative ports and the best ships are reserved for cruises of 7 days or more. If you found yourself on a less desirable ship, you may decide that you don't like cruising when in reality, it may end up being one of your favorite things.

Our 1st cruise was Disney's 7 day and to be honest with you 7 days was not enough. Personally I would not cruise on anything less than 7 days. It's a blast! I wish I could afford to take a cruise every year.

I love Celebrity Cruise Lines and they often have very attractive prices for their crusies. The food is excellent, the entertainment is good and the ships are clean and lovely. If I were childless, I wouldn't chose a Disney Cruise. Not that you wouldn't have a wonderful time but why pay for Disney when there are other great products out there. The presence of a casino on a ship shouldn't impact you one way or the other. You can avoid it and just forget its there.

DH & I do not have children and we LOVE DCL. We have also sailed on Royaly Caribbean and Carnival. All have their good points but if you are a Disney fan you can't beat DCL for service and entertainment, not to mention a beautiful ship! DH & I are celebrating our 10th Anniversary on the Wonder in January with 10 family members. Give it a try -- you'll love it.
