Hey guys. I havn't been on in ages!

So...lucky me...I have a new man:lovestruc and he is jumping right into my Disney obsession by going with me in February. YAY. He has never been and I am so looking forward to making a convert out of him. As I go through the planning process I wonder what suggestions you all have for easing someone into the Disney(World) obsession?

Also, does anybody have any stories similar, bringing a boy/girlfriend to WDW for their first time or converting someone? I'm curious as to how it went for other people. Thanks guys.

OP, Congratulations! I just know you will be able to convert him!;)

I've finally convinced my DH (who doesn't "get" Disney) to take me to WDW for a whole week. Once he got over freaking out that I booked 7 nights (he thought 4 was more than enough) I am just kind of lying low and don't mention it much. Well, not counting, in x number days we'll be in the air... landing at MCO... checking in to our resort... touring the park... other than that I try not to talk about it, lol. I don't want to burn him out before we get there. Which is hard because I love eat and breathe WDW thoughts and dreams...anyway, I get my Disney fix here with other fellow Disneyholics and am going to let Disney do what it does best on him. Magical experiences. Pixie dust. I booked a Disney resort, ASMu since he is a musician, and prepaid the trip including getting a dining plan, so he has nothing to do but play and not have to be always thinking about money. After all, this should be an escape from everyday life and bills. I hope he'll finally understand what it is I love about Disney. Best Wishes to you, and lots of pixie dust!

Thanks guys =D He's being a good sport. So far I've sent him a little "sample" of what a day at MK might be like. Then today I sent him an overview of what the parks are like. He was still calling it Disney LAND. Groan. But he seems very excited about it. My next little recap will be all about resorts. However I have told him that CBR is the only place I will stay. hehe. I sure hope I can get him to Disney Freak status...how awesome would that be? But I will settle for a nice relaxing vacation if I can't convert him =P

Well, What kind of stuff does he enjoy? Finding something in the World which fits nicely with things he enjoys might help get him bitten by the bug easier than just spending the time at the parks.

For instance.... Does he enjoy fishing? How about a Fishing excursion on Bay lake? (With free membership to BASS last time I looked at it.) How about a Golf nut? Plenty of great courses on the property. Enjoy water sports? Rent a sprite? Or go parasailing? Or for that matter... go on a guided tour of Bay Lake and the Seven Seas lagoon on a couple Jet Ski's. (First trip of the day will let you drive up to the front of the Magic Kingdom before getting some "free time" in their designated play area. after that first trip the lakes are too busy with ferries and other watercraft to allow the jet skis to roam the waters).

Another big thing I might recommend would be to be careful with any sort of commando agenda. If you are trying to get him bitten by the bug, make sure he has time to truly experience the Disney difference. Otherwise you might risk him seeing Disney as just a nicely themed amusement park and not much different than some stuff closer to home and much cheaper.

Congrats!! Something I'd suggest is to think of what HE really enjoys (boating, fishing, etc) and try to incorporate it into the trip somewhere. My DH was never really into Disney, and the first time we went together, we rented those Sea Raycers and now that's one of his favorite things - he looks forward to it which is wonderful.

However, I will say, I never held back my Disney obsession, and in 10 days we're going on our 3rd trip together (somehow I also convinced him we MUST spend our honeymoon there in 2007...:rotfl:) and I think he's just now getting it that I'm seriously obsessed. Maybe before he just thought I was excited :confused3 ...but I also plan with him in mind. He likes to relax & have pool/down time, so in my scheduling spreadsheets the relaxing time is in bright pink so that it shows up the most and he sees that I've planned w/ him in mind. Still working out the details on going to Disney together, but it's also been fun for me to remember to sit back and enjoy things other than the parks. Have an awesome vacation! :wizard:

well what i did on my last trip was before we left i made her watch the planning dvd (both of them) more then once. and had her take notes (really, im that nerdy about disney) of all the things she wanted to do, i also had her get on the website and check out all the different stuff there was to do in the park. all that mixed with the fact that she actually did the booking herself (i dont have a credit card so that duty fell to her) made her very excited about the trip. insted of it being all about what i wanted to do as a disney nut, i made it what we wanted to do together. by the time we got there she was just as excited as i was!
