First time at Hilton Head/???

We have owned at OKW since 2000 and have spent our vacation each year at WDW. We would like to try Hilton Head for the first time in June, 2006. How hard is it to get a 6 night reservation in a 2-bedroom unit at the 7th month window? Also, is there a nice, inexpensive hotel nearby if we want to avoid the Saturday night stay?

I have no personal experience with this, but seems like I've read here on the boards that early June is not too bad, but Mid June to Mid Aug are hard to get without using the waitlist. There may be others with personal experience that can tell you better. I do know that a 2BR is more likely than other units because there are so many 2BR units as opposed to the others. There are lots of hotels on the island. I've only stayed at DVC. There is a Marriott Fairfield not far from the resort on 278 that looked relatively new.

"Nice" and "inexpensive" usually can't be used together in the same sentence if you're referring to Hilton Head Island in the summer. The "nicer" places to stay are far from "inexpensive" and vice versa.

If the Saturday night is your first or last night, you might want to consider Savannah, Charleston, Beaufort, or even Bluffton. They are all cities/towns with historic districts and lots of "different" things to do. They also have more hotel/motel options at different price ranges.
