First time at DLR: Will we need jackets in July?

We're WDW regulars so the thought of a jacket in the parks in mid July (14-18) practically makes me break out in hives. However from what I've been seeing, a lot of people suggest warmer clothes for the evening. Do you think we'll need jackets or jeans just in case? We've never been to California so I'm a bit unfamiliar with the climate. Thanks for your help!

We are going right after you. I am bringing a light sweatshirt for the evenings. We have gone in July the past two years. The first time it was warm and we didn't need a sweatshirt. The second year it got a little chilly as the sun went down and we got cold and had our sweatshirts on. Then later it wasn't so bad because the wind died down. I'm also bringing one pair of jeans just in case.

It really is a toss up. We've been twice in July and havent needed them but once in June it was freezing cold. Didnt have jackets and ended up paying way too much for logo ones. So this time I think we will bring light weight hoodies. You shouldn't need more than that.

We were there in July 2012 and wore a light yoga jacket every night. The breeze can get a bit chilly after being in the sun all day.

We visit the Resort over July 4th, most years, and I would highly recommend that you pack a jacket and jeans, because just as sure as you don't bring them…..that's exactly when you'll want/need them!!!

The temps really do cool down when the sun sets, and if there's a breeze, you just might find yourself wishing you had that extra covering.

Plus---they crank up the air conditioning all over the Resort, and going from the heat into the freezing AC constantly, all day long, always makes me glad I have a light sweater stuffed in my cross body purse, that I can yank out whenever its needed! It's nice to be prepared for most everything!

I like to pack a cardigan, not so much a jacket. A sweatshirt would be a good idea. It feels chilly there to me sometimes. In July 2011 I wore the one pair of jeans I brought over and over along with a cardigan because the high reached the mid-seventy degree range, and I felt cold. Last year was a different story, most days were perfect but two of the days were downright hot! We even bought one of those hand-held water fans for my son. I love the weather in Anaheim, should be nice when you go.

We are packing getting ready to leave on Sunday. DH was shocked when I told him to pack a pair of jeans and a sweatshirt. This is the man who is always trying to bring pants to WDW in June! He was so excited that I'll let him bring pants.

I work with a lot of tourists that visit SoCal from other parts of the country and a lot of them WOEFULLY under-pack. As mentioned above, at night when the sun goes down, it gets chilly quick. Last night I met a friend for dinner at it was 63 degrees... which in my spoiled SoCal brain means it was practically in the 50's, which means winter hahaha. I had pants and a long sleeve shirt. Better to have it and not need it then find yourself shelling out $60 for a Disneyland sweatshirt in an emergency haha!

I agree with all the PPers, bring a light jacket or sweater of some sort. Unlike in Orlando, Summer in SoCal is very (very!) dry, so when the sun goes down there's no humidity in the air to hold onto the heat. The temp can drop 15-20 degrees pretty quickly. You often see local families with sweatshirts/sweaters/light jackets during Fantasmic! or evening parades and fireworks. Last year I tried to warn my partner about this but he ignored me and then shivered through Fantasmic! after the sun went down. On the other hand, if you've ever been at WDW and wished for a break in the heat/humidity at sundown--DLR will grant that wish!

So true! I think it's winter below 70 too! LOL. And yes, paying $60 for a sweatshirt is not ideal.

Thank you everyone for the quick replies! Great information! I think we'll bring light zip up sweatshirts and a pair of jeans. Usually at WDW I like to save Splash Mountain for the last ride out of the park, so I won't care how wet I get. But now I know I have to do them in the sunlight! Should be fine since we are staying at the Grand Californian, woohoo!

My kids will still ride, but they leave the sweat jackets with me, then when they get off, they change from tee to the sweat jacket and they are fine. It does get cool, but not cold.

I didn't realize the drop that happens after dark in California. This is a good reminder to give to my mom to pack a light jacket. I should just pack one also in case I get cool during the week after next's trip.

Jackets in CA, Ponchos in Florida. That's my rule.

There is such a difference in day and evening temperatures in CA, layers are the best way to go. In summer, if I'm arriving during the day and staying for the evening, I wear light, cotton capris, with a short sleeve top and a jacket.

On the other side of the coin...... I once through in short's for a Thanksgiving trip (1 Pair ) and was glad I did! Temps we're in the high 80's and I wore them everyday! Weather in SoCal can be unpredictable do to the marine layer.... just be prepared and you will be fine. We utilize the lockers for the extra jacket, no big deal...
