My wife, son and I live about an hour and a half away so it hasn't been at the top of the list but I had some points that were too late to bank so we used on them on a 2 BR villa for one night this past weekend. We brought along my mother and my sister and we were quite charmed with the resort. This wont' be a long report because we were there for about 24 hours.
The ok
1)check in experience. Ours was clumsy, the room wasn't ready despite online check in early in the day. When we went to front desk, they gave us keys but said we would get our room number when it was ready, then two hours later proceeded to text us to come to front desk. Then they replaced the keys as we apparently had a different room.
2)Food offerings. Only one place was open the snack bar at the pool. The customary Dole Whips were had and enjoyed.
3)The convenience, general store was lacking in most areas. It was small, didn't have but about half of what you can buy at any other DVC resort.
The Good
1. Proximity to outside restaurants, shopping, and things to do. It was really close to a large shopping and dining area with great views. We drove because of my 84 year old mom, but we could have easily walked there. It was like a mini-Disney springs.
2. Amenities pound for pound. There was a basketball court with an adjustable hoop that my son loved. We probably spent about 2 hours of our 24 hours there hooping. Bocci Ball, putting green, a nice heated pool and jacuzzi as well as shuffleboard, a game and activity room, horse shoes, and biking. Even had campfire smores that night.
3. Nature and education opportunities. My wife and sister were enthralled talking to a Disney employee that educates guests about the local animals and plants and does guided tours.
The Great
1. The 2 BR villa. One of the better 2 bedrooms I have stayed in. It was quiet, the kitchen was laid out very well and theming and location of the villas gave low country vibes and views. The rocking chairs on the balcony were a highlight for my mom.
2. The trees. I am impressed they built the Villas around the Live Oaks and preserved the feel that the resort was much older than it was. My mom was convinced she had stayed there in the 60's.
In short, the resort deserves a longer stay. We plan on coming back every other year as it was a shorter drive for us and offered alot more than we took advantage of in our one night stay.
