First solo trip list of firsts...just back!

I just returned late Sunday night from my first solo trip! I was attending a conference at the CR Fri-Sun so I bought 3 day hoppers to get some Park time in, then later decided to add DAH at MK on Thursday the 14th because.... why not??! It seemed like too good an opportunity to miss since I could walk from the CR and didn’t have my young children in tow who go to sleep at 8pm.

If anyone in on the fence about taking a solo trip, I want to encourage you to DO IT!! I’ll admit, there were a few moments of loneliness and guilt, but overall it was AMAZEBALLS and I was able to accomplish soooo many bucket list items that my family may not have been interested in.

Here is my proud list of “Firsts” that I accomplished in four short half days:
  • Disney After Hours
  • Rope dropping FOP and NRJ for 7am EMH (then making it back to hotel in time for 9am lectures!)
  • Splash Mountain, Tiki Room, Country Bears, People Mover
  • Getting photos with Mickey & Minnie together in celebration outfits
  • Visit to Trader Sam’s
  • Standing up close to the castle for HEA
  • Checking out TSL and riding SDD
  • First time riding TSMM!! We never could wait in the long lines in the past- my only regret is not having time to ride this multiple rounds...so that’s on the list for next visit!
  • Going to the back part of Canada pavilion (never realized there was more, including the beautiful waterfall!)
  • Going inside the Mexico pavilion
  • Doing the paint by numbers canvas and actually enjoying the festival activities instead of rushing by
  • Riding Spaceship Earth(probably did this as a child but don’t remember)
  • Taking the boat from MK to Poly, and a friendship boat from Boardwalk to DHS.
  • Catching rare character meets at DHS (Bert) and Epcot (Big Al from Country Bears)

Some of those are a little embarrassing to admit that I’ve skipped in the past, but no worries because they are checked off now! Even with the parks being insanely busy, I was able to accomplish so much and I was very thankful to not be pushing a double stroller through the sweaty crowds! Thanks to all those who have posted about their trips in the past, giving me the courage to go solo without any shame!

Glad you had such a great trip! Where exactly within those parks did you find those characters? Are they there only this month, or would they still be there later this year?

Thanks for the report, we are going AGAIN in March and my daughter wants to do many FIRSTS during our trip also, will show her some of your firsts!!!

At DHS, characters randomly meet to the right outside the gates (through security, but not through tapstiles). In Epcot, there are a few locations around the world showcase where characters might pop up, I ran into them in between Canada and UK. In MK, I also passed by Phineas and Ferb near City Hall. The times, characters, and sometimes the location, changes weekly. If meeting characters is a priority for you, then a subscription to Character Locator will help you out.

Sounds like so much fun! How did you like being at Trader Sam’s solo? I’m taking my first solo trip this May and would like to stop by there to pick up another tiki mug for my collection. I’ve sat at the Tambu bar alone and not felt out of place, but am not sure I’d be comfortable at Trader Sam’s.

It was great, no problem for me being solo. There was a wait of course, not ideal but I kinda expected it and with no specific plans or kiddos in tow it was worth it to me to wait it out, about an hour. I spent the time browsing the stores at Poly and then picked up a lapu lapu at Tambu Lounge. Once in TS I was able to grab a small corner table to myself, and then a young couple came in and I gladly let them join the table. We made some small talk, debated which drinks to order and enjoyed watching the atmosphere of the antics from our chosen drinks. Good experience all around. Only downside to being solo, is I’m not gonna order some of the larger sharable drinks but I probably wouldn’t even do that with my hubby either
