"There's a great big hunk of world down there with no fences around it. Where two dogs can find adventure and excitement. And beyond those distant hills, who knows what wonderful experiences. And it's all ours for the taking, Pidge. All ours." -Lady and the Tramp
While we were waiting for World Showcase to open we saw a Segway Tour go by and I heard the CM say that the flowers on the bank of Future World are ship flags that spell out Mickey Mouse.
We watched a CM who was working on one of the thatched roofs. Then I spotted a small troll up on the window sill. I thought the troll doll seemed in a little beneath Disney's standards, but it was kind of cute.
World Showcase was opened and we went into Norway to ride Maelstrom.
Maelstrom was another ride that I'm not sure I need to do more than once. It was similar to Pirates of the Caribbean but not nearly as much fun. Once we got off the viking ship the kids did some posing with the giant troll.
Once the troll had been sufficiently subdued by my waring vikings we went to Kringla Bakeri og Cafe. I had read so much about School Bread that I wanted to try it and Joey agreed to share it with me.
Aunt Pat got some Lefse and Nescafe. David, Adam, and Daisy shared a sweet pretzel.
The school bread was ok, but I don't think I would get it again, I think you have to like coconut a lot more than I do to enjoy it. The lefse was nowhere near as good as my grandmother use to make! I believe the sweet pretzel was satisfactory.
After finishing our Norway snack we headed off to Mexico to go on the one other ride in World Showcase. I think Mexico would have been more impressive to us if we hadn't been staying at CSR, but since we were, it just looked like our hotel. The Fiesta Tour is like It's a Small World though not as immersive. It was sort of like a visit to a
travel agency with Donald Duck. We weren't impressed.
Our Fast Pass window was opening up so we back tracked a little and I took the kids pictures by the topiaries while David ran over to get a set of Fast Passes for Test Track.
There was no way with my feet that I could be the Fast Pass runner that day, so I was glad David was willing to do it. While he was gone we continued on to Canada to wait for him. I found a bench to sit on and took some pictures from there.
Aunt Pat and the boys went off to explore a bit. Daisy sat down next to me and pulled out her book. David showed up and we all moved on to England. The kids had to pose in the phone booths, "Just like in Parent Trap Mom!"
There were some street performers putting on a play but we didn't stick around to watch. I was more interested in finding my next place to sit down and in trying the fish and chips. We went to Yorkshire County Fish Shop and got two orders of fish and chips to share.
They were so good! I think that will be my preferred lunch spot in World Showcase forever. We sat and enjoyed the people and duck watching for awhile. While we were there I explained the idea of eating around the World to the kids. They were excited by it and Daisy insisted that we needed to have sushi at some point and Joey decided he would try it. So sushie got put on our list of foods to go in search of.
Next up however was France and I already knew what I wanted to try there!
We walked through the shops a bit. Joey tried on a beret.
I found a hidden Mickey in one of the shop windows.
Then I spotted the kiosk I was looking for. I quickly strode over to it, ignoring my protesting feet and placed my order for a Grey Goose Citron Slushie.
I took my first sip right there at the counter and fell in love. Then I took my glass of slushie and sat down at a table. Aunt Pat had found crepes for the kids and the boys brought those over to the table to try.
I was to engrossed in my slushie to try them, but the boys said they were good. Daisy preferred to pretend like she was not with us for a little while.
World Showcase was remarkably uncrowded and we sat in the little area outside France all by ourselves and just enjoyed the view for awhile.
