"First rule of leadership, Princess...." ~Overdosing on Ice Cream

Timon: "This looks like a good spot to rustle up some grub."
Young Simba: "What's that?"
Timon: "A grub. What's it look like?"
[Timon eats the grub]
Young Simba: "Ewwwww, gross."
Timon: "Tastes like chicken."

Feeling relaxed and refreshed from our time at the pool we walked back to our rooms to shower and dress for dinner. I was exited about tonight's ADR at Boma because I really wanted to see what Animal Kingdom Lodge was like. Our cameo green shorts or capris, and yellow or black shirts from out first AK day, now clean thanks to Aunt Pat doing laundry, seem appropriate for dinner at Boma. It also gave the boys an opportunity to do their Men in Black impression at the bus stop.

We took the bus to Blizzard Beach and then from BB to AKL. What I noticed right away at AKL was that most of the rooms must have a very long walk to the bus stop. We checked in for Boma upstairs and were sent downstairs where we were immediately seated. After ordering our drinks, mine was alcoholic of course we went through the buffet line.

None of us are very adventurous eaters so I was a little worried about what everyone would eat. I found enough that I wanted to try to fill up my plate.

Adam found chicken nuggets and watermelon.

The flavors of the food were unexpected, most things were sweet rather than spicy. I enjoyed the saffron rice especially. There were lots of desserts to choose from, though the majority of my family stuck to the very safe chocolate chip cookies. They didn't have as many as the guy at the table next to us, he had at least 20 chocolate chip cookies on his plate, we were all amazed! I tried the famous Zebra Domes, but I can't say I'm a fan.

Boma was rather loud, and we were seated at a very long table so conversation was a little difficult. We did enjoy our time there, though the meal didn't make it onto anyone's favorites list.

After dinner we explored AKL a bit. All the little seating areas with very comfy chairs looked nice.

The outside fire pit looked like it would be a great place to hang out after dark.

We saw a few animals, including my favorite giraffes, outside from the observation area.

At some point in the evening Adam's new sunglasses fell apart. Literally while he was wearing them, the side piece just fell off! So we browsed the AKL gift shop and purchased him yet another pair of sunglasses there.

Then we made our way back to the bus stop for our return trip to CSR. The bus from AKL to AK was a bit crowded, but our bus from AK to CSR was empty.

We were back in our rooms and ready for bed in a short period of time. We all went to sleep early since we were getting up at O Dark Thirty again in the morning for rope drop at the Magic Kingdom.

I think you're the first person I've come across who didn't like the Zebra Domes! Though I do seem to recall someone saying they're not as good as they used to be. I've never had one, so I have no opinion myself.

I'm glad you enjoyed Boma on the whole, though, and seeing AKL. :goodvibes

I was also laughing about O' Dark Thirty--my roommate when I studied abroad in Oxford during college used the same phrase, so that brought back memories!

I can't believe those sunglasses fell apart so quickly!

I love those rocking chairs around the fire pit at AKL.

I was annoyed about the sunglasses, but doubly annoyed I didn't just go back to Primeval Whirl and get his original pair.

I love the look of those rocking chairs too.

That does look great! :drinking1

Aww, giraffes are my favourite too - they're so adorable! ::yes::

Bummer! No way should those sunglasses have broken THAT quickly! :headache:

That's close to what my mom and I say (I got it from her lol): "oh dark hundred" :rotfl:

I can't believe how quickly those glasses broke!

My DD and I also agreed that we didn't really care for the zebra domes... :confused3

I couldn't believe how quickly they broke either!

I'm glad I'm not the only one who doesn't get the obsession with zebra domes. Of course I didn't really like the dole whips either. :confused3

Oh, I wish you would have loved Boma -- it's our favorite place to eat at WDW -- they have the best press-pot of Kenyan coffee! We are also HUGE zebra dome fans! I am glad you enjoyed looking around AKL though and seeing the giraffes! :goodvibes

I didn't try the coffee. I do still want to try Boma for breakfast.

Great update. Love the title! Your family almost always looks so fresh and happy in your pictures. It sounds like you had a perfect mix of park commando-ing and resort relaxing. Hoping, since we'll be in Disney for 9 days, to take a page from your book to keep my crew happy and fresh too.:thumbsup2

I tried really hard to get a balance with the itinerary. I think have 11 days really enabled me to schedule in resort relaxing without feeling guilty that we were missing park time.

I am really enjoying your report. We were there Aug. 10 to 15. That was not enough time and I wound up being a commando the whole time. You have done much better and had relax time.

Thanks for the report.

My first Disney trip I was commando the whole time, and I exhausted everyone. I get better at being less commando with each trip.

AKL looks beautiful. I would love to be sitting at that firepit right now.

Boma doesnt really interest my family of macaroni and cheese eaters too much just yet but I would like to try it when they get a little older or maybe without them some day.
