Hi everyone! I'm new to this web site as well as to DVC. My husband and I purchased our DVC membership while on our honeymoon in December. We decided we wanted to go back and use our DVC for the first time for our first anniversary, but when i called the other day I was told that every room in every DVC property was already booked. EVERY SINGLE ONE. It's the week after Thanksgiving, but according to all the books that's "low" season. So we are wait listed for every single hotel.

How many of you have been waitlisted and been succesffully booked into a room on DV C property. If we stay at our home hotel we have plenty of points without borrowing (for 9 wonderful nights!) but if we have to go out of the DVC to another Disney hotel, we'll end up either shortening our stay or borrowing points (which I really didn't want to do our very first time out of the gate!!

Any advice??

This happened to us too-your very first DVC ressie and nothing's available. I know how discouraging it is. When we made ressies for next week (5 mos. ahead), there was one night, right in the middle of our trip that was unavailable. We waitlisted, having no idea what to expect, but feeling soo discouraged. Fortunately, our waitlist came through in about 3 weeks.

hi: that's a popular time for dvc'ers because the points are fairly low and the Christmas decos are up. good luck on the waitlist-it's come through for us a little better than half the time.

The week after thanksgiving is the busiest time of all for DVC. I think that it is even busier than Christmas week....for DVC resorts. There is no problem at all getting reservations during this period, if you use the eleven month window.

If you go through and look for a few threads started by Carl, you will see qite a bit of conversation in this area. He had an identical concern and experience.

Try not to panic. People's plans change all of the time.

Last October, I booked a split stay at VWL and OKW for the same week that you're looking at. It was only a month and a half ahead of time, and it worked out fine.

thanks for the encouragement everyone! I'm SO glad I found this board.

I'll sit tight and see what happens. If anything, this taught my husband that we need to be a little more aggressive with our vacation planning, especially if we want to go anywhere during the holiday season!!

Who knows- maybe I'll end up spending my first anniversary in Paris! (if this doesn't work out of course).

LOL, disneyfool! If it were me, I'd make back up plans for my first anniversary in Paris right now and then make a VERY LARGE NOTE on my calendar to call exactly when the 11 month window opens for ressies for my second anniversary. You can always cancel them if your plans change. (FWIW, there are several options for DVC points to be used in Europe - DLP and exchanges via II).

IMHO, there is only a small chance that you will end up with a ressie for this December. There are lots of people aready on the waitlist ahead of you, because the 7 month window has been open for some time. (It's possible something will come through, just not very likely).

As others have mentioned, the time between Thanksgiving and Christmas is probably the most popular time for DVC members to visit WDW. You will definitely need to book in the 11 month window for this period to ensure a ressie in the room size you desire at your home rsesort. In addition to low points, there are all of the Holiday decorations and activities, the DVC annual meetings and for the past two years the DISCon. RADP also schedules a meet during this time. This year, a College Football Awards Show is being broadcast live from the ESPN restaurant on the Boardwalk.

Congratulations on your recent marriage and DVC purchase. Wishing you a wonderful anniversary, no matter where you end up celebrating!

Contrary to some others, I think you'll get it!!!

Since Disney doesn't penalize anybody for cancelling a reservation until 30 days before check-in, people wait until last minute to cancel. You still have 4 months of cancellations before the 30 days.
Another factor to consider: DVC members may travel heavily the week after Thanksgiving because points costs are low, but the rest of the world doesn't. Weeks 48-50 are the lowest demand time in the timeshare industry because people travel the week of Thanksgiving, then go home to shop and prepare for Christmas, then go back on vacation for Christmas and New Year's weeks - the highest demanded weeks of the year.
Just my opinion...but I say stay positive! It can happen!

All the best,
Shontell

the first week is easy - the Dis Con (this website) is having their convention, the annual meeting of the DVC is happening, and the WDW is decorated for Christmas - it is unbelieveable beautiful - as I am sure you know since you were there last December. all of these things may this a week (or 3) that is a not to be missed by alot of DVC's.

Sorry that is happens when your anniversary is - that's a bumper - but yes I would wait too -

Check which waiting list you on your - there is one for the whole time you want and one daily - you want to be on the daily - so if any days come up you get them - you might also want the list where MS can make the reservations without calling you so the days won't be taken by someone else.

:bounce: ;)

Hope you get them!

We just closed on May15th this year and made our first ressies at our home BWV for a 1 bedroom pref. epcot view for July 21-26.
Only 2 months out. Also we just made ressies on June 11 for next May 3-9 ,2003 (11th month window)for 2 studios pref. epcot view. They had no standard rooms left but you could waitlist. We could have waitlisted for standard but didn't. Paul

Our first trip home last DEC was also waitlisted. Following advice from this board, we waitlisted on a day by day basis and eventually got all of our days booked. Ended up staying at BWV and OKW. DW did not want to stay at OKW and was so happy we did that we changed our next trip to stay at OKW. good luck and hope a little Disney magic comes your way.

As someone already told you, I also had the same experience (and have been complaining daily about it.)
However, since I really want to go to WDW once a year, and I have 150 points per year to use, I elected to go ahead and exchange my points for a non DVC resort. I reserved 4 nights at the Contemporary Resort (Garden View Dec 2-5) and had to pay 28 points per night. You can see that if you wanted to stay very long or go more than once a year, you could NOT make the choice I did. But, I wanted to get to go to the Dis Con and also see the Christmas decorations, so I went ahead and booked. I am also wait listed for the 6th and 7th. I am hoping that since it is a weekend and only 2 days, the wait list has more chance of coming through than I would have had if I left it wait listed for the whole time. I was wait listed at VWL, BWV, and BCV for 3 weeks (for Dec 4-8,) but it didn't look like (to me) that anything was going to come of it. I was afraid that if I waited even longer before booking, that all that would be available would be a Tower room at the Contemporary and that would have used up all my points just to stay 2 nights - NOT something that I would want to do.

Early December is low season at DVC, but it is also Christmas time & DVC annual meetings. Have patience & hopefully you will get the days you need. Did you waitlist the days separately or as one clump?
