First of June vacation, Does anyone else feel cheated?

We are there June 4th to 8th. I don't feel cheated but I do hate not knowing what will be open by the time we get to Disney. There are too many things that are supposed to happen in June that don't have firm start dates. I don't really care about Soarin' but I do want to see the new stage show at MK, the fireworks at DHS and the Frozen ride if possible, and whatever is happening at AK would be nice, too.

I'm just frustrated. We are going early May. Planning was a pain because there was so much still up in the air. I'm not disappointed that things didn't open--we weren't counting on that anyway. But AFTER our FP+ booking window, and long after our ADR booking date, they started making all these changes.

Add to that the fact that I intentionally picked less-crowded dates and now Disney is just running everything at such reduced capacity that I might as week be going during Spring Break. Usually anticipating the trip is a big part of the joy for me, but this time, I have not enjoyed it at all.

There is a difference between you and the OP. You say: "Because we want to". The OP says "Because we can". Which makes it sound as if she doesn't want to go to WDW at all. And only goes because she can afford it. Which shouldn't be a reason to go on vacation. On vacation you should do things you enjoy and that is what I think is missing a bit.

For that reason, I do understand the comment: why not go somewhere else, there is more to see in the world. I had the same reaction on the first page. If you would rather go to DL because there everything is new, then why not look into that. Nowadays many vacation packages and plane tickets have some flexibility. Yes it will be short notice and might give some stress and extra work, but if you know in advance you might be disappointed (or feel cheated) by what you will encounter on your vacation, whether it's at Disney or somewhere else, why not try to change it?

I think what other people ticks off in some of the replies in this and other threads regarding the delays, is the feeling of entitlement some people seem to have.
t
(My vacations are btw mainly Disney or musical theater centered, I do not enjoy the beach or hiking, I do enjoy city trips but will do make my decision on which city to visit on their theater schedules.

I am more curious to hear which is the 50th state the OP hasn't visited yet and why.)
I've never been to Rhode Island. Just never had the occasion to go. Any Rhode Islanders out there have any suggestions?
I was in Shanghi in the late 80's and it would take more than a new Disney park to get me back there. I felt like an ant in an ant hill it was so populous. The room we stayed in was about as big as my closet. I am sure it has changed since many westerners have exited, but perhaps not for the better. With all the unrest in the world I tend to stay closer to home. Perhaps I am older and wiser now. As an American it has changed we a no longer welcome in much of the world. Tanzania was one of the best times of my life. Costa Rico was the most beautiful and friendly country I ever had the chance to visit. I priced June trips here and found for the cost of Disney I could have 3 weeks splitting my time at Tortugaro and Arenal Volcano.
Many have gotten the wrong idea from my post. The biggest problem I have at this point is I feel like Disney is jerking its loyalist fans around. The cost of the experience has never been a major factor because until now I felt I was a desired guest. Now with all the upselling and shifting around I feel like they are more interested in how much of my money they can squeeze out of me rather than providing an experience for everyone, small and big spenders alike. Those of you who didn't get a chance to go to Disney World in its earlier days (the 70's and 80's) don't miss what they never had. Unfortunately, Disney knows this and is taking advantage. They are in the business of making money, I get it. However, at some point they will go too far and I am afraid the magic will be gone. Maybe this is why we go as often as we do. To savor the last bit of magic.

I lived there for a number of years and I would highly recommend a visit. Newport is absolutely beautiful and the mansions are amazing, especially if you enjoy history and architecture. Rhode Island is full of history and beauty and wonderful people. I've made Ohio home now for 16 years, and while I love it here and would never move, I do miss Rhode Island at times.

We are going to Disney at the beginning of May. The closer the trip has gotten it seems the more attractions have been closed and not opened. I admit I was kinda bummed about it. We do not get to go very often so this is a huge deal for myself, my husband and our two boys, 11 and 13. But When my 11 year old noticed I was looking sad the other day, he asked me about. I explained that so many things would be closed, and they wouldn't get to ride them, (they've only been once before). My son gave me a huge hug, looked at me with the biggest smile and said, "yeah, Mom, but it's Disney!"

I truly hope there will always be magic at Disney. Maybe, just maybe, it will attract enough people to it's ranks who can keep the greedy, corporate power-mongers at bay. If we believe.... :)

When we booked in December, I was gleeful and full of excitement. Predictions, pr, omotions, and podcasts pointed to several new attractions. I never thought that all would come to be, but I thought maybe one or two. Rivers of Light, New Soarin, Frozen Norway, Star Wars Launch Bay, and a new Star Wars fireworks show. Of these, if I have it right, only Star Wars Launch Bay will be open in June. I really do love Disney, however, the same old thing year after year is a bit much. I am wishing we had planned Disneyland instead. At least then I would have something new to look forward to. Help me, Help me recover that enthusiasm. Since last June what is new and will inspire me to not cancel. (This doesn't include the expensive new add on's to see old stuff.)
I'm not sure how you can feel cheated when you are still getting what you paid for at the time of your reservation.

If the same old thing year after year gets to be a bit much, I will gladly go in your stead ;) :D :D

We were there last June and completely skipped AK because of the "nothing new is ready yet" aspect. At MK pirates was closed, at EPCOT frozen was still under contruction, and Disney Springs was kind of a hot mess. Our trip was still great. Even with the oppressive heat (which we love) and the crazy crowds. If the recent closures at DHS would have been in effect then, that might have really bummed me out, but I think knowing in advance makes a big difference. It gives you time to mentally adjust.

I can't remember if I replied to this thread or not. We are 6/4-6/11. I don't feel cheated. Maybe because I haven't been in 4 yrs, maybe bc it's my boys (2 yrs and 4.5 yrs) first "real" trip, maybe bc we are going again June 2017...I'm just excited to go. However, I am a tad frustrated with planning! It's very hard to plan for things that have generally been announced but without details. I'm having to guess on some touring and some timing for FP. Regardless, if I guess right or wrong, we'll have fun and enjoy it, I'm sure!

In my opinion, you have every right to feel disappointed. Cheated? Maybe, especially if this is a once in a lifetime trip for your family. After all, would you rather see an attraction that's only mostly done so they could make their deadline? Years ago, when we would visit family each winter, we were excited to watch Test Track rise from the ground and think "that's going to be our new ride next year!" We got to think that for three years straight as Disney kept pushing back the opening date. We missed it by a year and Animal Kingdom's opening by a month! Doesn't matter. When we finally did go on each of us still found the ride entertaining. Yes, having to plan so far in advance and change last minute makes me want to pull my hair out versus just going down and having a vacation, but I hope somehow you're able to find something to keep your spirits up, like the fact you can make it to the happiest place on Earth.

I think this is the best advice yet.

Kind of in the same boat.

But the fact of the matter is: You're going to WDW. Many will never ever get to go there in the first place.

Of course relative regulars like ourselves on this board might miss out on something here or there by a week or a couple of days, but we all know we're going back at some point.

I am going in early June (spur of the moment decision last week to plan a trip...last trip was late 2014). I can't wait, already getting excited about it!! It will be surprise for our 2 sons. They have not been in a couple years.

"it is, what it is" and "let the good times roll!"

I guess I'm the minority...my attititude is..it's Disney...I'm excited anyway!...we only go every 2-3 years and never see all there is to see by far so it's special to us and we just go with the flow and see what we can see. And then come home and start planning next time!
I agree! This is our attitude as well! My DD and I are making our way there 6/4-6/11 and we will miss several new openings as well but our attitude is we will just take this opportunity to do some things we have been wanting to do but never had the time to try. Like Winterland/Summerland Putt Putt: we always get a free ticket with our package and have never used it, going to this time! Haven't taken the time to go to the Boardwalk in forever, going to do it this time! Have always wanted to take a day to visit different resorts and plan on that as well. So even though, there are some disappointments, we will still be at Disney and we will do some things we have always wanted to do and see but haven't had the time before.

I agree, we book based on our vacation availability, prices and crowds and do not depend on what new or reopened attractions or ride may be available. We decided months ago on May 30-June 5, so not disappointed as to Soarin or other new openings since we knew that when we booked. And plenty of see and do, lack of one or two attractions/shows is not going to disappoint our WDW experience - we simply will not let it!

I think the one thing that I feel cheated on is MK is still showing closing at 10pm for the first week of June. I don't ever recall a previous year where it closed at 10pm on non emh evenings.

Still possible that will change as WDW often extends hours based on their estimated crowds even just weeks before dates.

I can live without Soarin. We weren't expecting to see it anyway, so it's fine. I'm not worried about Star Wars fireworks. But I am extremely frustrated that they won't give us a daggone date for the Frozen stuff. I have two little girls who want to meet Anna and Elsa, I can't get Fastpasses at MK but they won't say if they'll be at Epcot, I want to figure out if I need to change my Epcot days around and, if so, I want to be able to switch my other Fastpasses. I will be extremely disappointed if we miss the new Frozen ride. I really did think we were in the clear with that when they said "Spring 2016." And I was honestly just angry yesterday when they said June but no specific date. I'm sick of so much of my planning feeling up in the air.
Hey! This is a kinda old thread, but I wanted to tell you that Olaf has now arrived at Disney's Hollywood studios!!!

so we are at no to ROL, no to Soarin but rumor of old movie coming back soon, No to A&E likely. Olaf yes, rumor of new Star Wars fireworks June 5 and nothing yet for Frozen ride.

Honestly, I am kind of wishing we had stuck with our original June 9-18 reservations. We are going June 18-26, and I anticipate that the lines will be too long for us to get to do most of the new experiences. our crowd calendar of all 7s for the week will now be incorrect and we'll have a ton of crowds. I can't switch my days around and keep dining reservations because restaurants are booked solid, and not being able to book multiple fast passes in separate parks is driving me nuts. (We have four days of military promo tickets.)

Email guest services about your disappointment regarding not being able to book FP in different parks. I did this last week and got a phone call from a Cast Member. After our conversation he thanked me for the feed back... and added 3 anytime FP for my party during our next trip. Not guaranteeing that will happen to you, but just to say if you aren't happy as a consumer let them know!

Disney wants feedback - they can provide a service if there's a demand for it :)
