First night Dining needed - HELP PLEASE - REALLY :)

We are staying at the AKL and arrive on 4-11 (Tuesday). I
currently have a DDE for Boma, but the fam' are not into trying many new versions of meals - especially my two girls
DD16 and DD14..

We would like to be able to have a real nice dinner the first night to set the stage for the 6 day stay. We also would like
to be somewhat close to AKL (and not have to travel via Disney transport all over the place).

Here are our other DDEs: WED: Ohana, THURS: H&V, FRI: Earl of Sandwich (CS), SAT: LeCellier, SUN: HHDR



Please give me some ideas or SHOULD I just stay with Boma and hope for the best .....

I went to Boma with my family and my DD (14) was with us along with her friend (also 14). I will tell you that they did not care for the food at Boma. Oh, they were happy enough with the stuff in the kid's area, they ate the beef, and a few other things and then went wild on dessert. But it was their LEAST favorite restaurant. Plus it was $26.99 for the two of them to eat chicken fingers.

Would you be willing to go to one of the fancier places. The two teen girls really LOVED Citricos and the Grand Floridian. The both went up and "flirted" with the dessert chef (the kitchen is open here and you are welcomed to walk around). When they got their desserts, the chef had put a chocolate princess crown on each of their desserts (it was only supposed to go on the 50th anniversary dessert). They thought that was the best thing. They really liked that place. They were okay with Artist Point at the Wilderness Lodge.

Just wanted to add that it would probably be pretty easy to get to the Grand Floridian from AKL. You could just take the Disney bus to the TTC and then hop on the resort monorail.

If you honestly think your family will not like Boma then I would not eat there. Jinko is also at the AKL, check the menu at allears to see if it fits your family.

DH and I love Boma. If we were staying at AKL, Boma would be our first dinner.

We will be there the same time. Our 3 teen ds do not like boma, but as the other posters said, if you dont mind spending big bucks for chicken fingers etc, its o.k. I too am thinking of cancelling a dinner for the same night, april ll, but its at coral reef. My one ds asked for the atmosphere, but I know they dont really like fish that much and its expensive even with the dde card 20% discount we would get. Before you cancel, maybe you should call disney dining and just ask whats available for a party of 4 on your night etc.

Well, I have one of the most 'discerning' of palates in my family (aka picky eater 12 y/o dd!!). She loves Boma. Yes, we have to pay 'big bucks' for her to eat that mac and cheese, chicken fingers and such. But she is getting better about trying something new each trip.

You could try Chef Mickeys...not great food, but a fun way to start the trip. Or 1900 Park Fare...

I enjoyed Boma and my 14yo daughter ate well and she is a bit of a picky eater. I will probably try Jiko on my next trip - the setting at Boma is fairly open and we happened to sit next to a few tables with small kids so it was a bit noisy. I had a good meal at every restaurant we went to but LeCellier was probably the best.

We just ate at Spoodles on Saturday night which was our first night on property and everyone in our party found something to love. DD had roasted chicken, I had a whole roasted snapper done in the wood oven and DH had salmon. The atmosphere was nice, and it was so much fun to walk the boardwalk & catch Illuminations from the bridge after dinner.

I vote for Chef Mickeys because there is nothing more Disney anywhere! Personally my family really loves Boma but some children might not. It is a very spec ial restaurant though.

If you are staying at AKL you don't need to look any further than Jiko. It is our FAVORITE place to dine in all of WDW. If you really wan't to start your trip off right make an ADR now.
