First night at Polynesian - where to eat?

Hi all

We arrive at Poly after spending 3 nights at Hard Rock Hotel in August. Thought we would eat at 'O'Hana's' on our first night but now not so sure. Any other suggestions for our family of me, DH and DS aged 13, 13 and 9???? Happy to travel out on the monorail.

Hmmm...tough question. Do you like exploring other resorts during your stay? Beings that you're staying at the Poly, maybe you could do your first meal at another resort and do an evening visit checking out that place.

Or, you could get very familiar with the Poly (if you're not already) and go ahead and eat at Ohanas. I strongly suggest Kona Cafe for lunch!

We're happy to explore other resorts, would prefer resorts/parks with easy access from the Poly.

What type of food are you looking for? From Polynesian you can easily get to Epcot where there are numerous restaurants. Once at Epcot you can take a boat to Boardwalk where several more very good restaurants are. Give us some hints as to what you prefer as theres too many to list!

Kona Cafe is awesome. I had an amazing meal there and everyone in our party-8, thought it was excellent. The dessert selection is also superb. Hope you enjoy it as much as we did!

It's also a very quick monorail to Chef Mickey's! Nothing like that crazy buffet to get you in the mood for Disney

Kona Cafe and Ohana at the Polynesian are favorites. Kona has better food, but Ohana's is also very good and has great atmosphere. The kids would actually enjoy Ohana alot more. If the kids are into characters, Crystal Palace and Liberty Tree Tavern are in Magic Kingdom, and Chef Mickey's is at the Contemporary.

I can't understand with kids why you wouldn't do O'hana. It is one of my families favorites. Next would be Kona Cafe. Poly has great food, stay where it is easy.

I would go w/ O'hana. It is my favorite so far. It's also a family favorite, DH requested to go to O'hana and Chef Mickey's this trip. That was his only requests.

Chef Mickey's would be a perfect place to kick off your WDW vacation. It'll really get you in the Disney mood.

We were just going to stay at the Poly for the remainder of the day after we have checked in. Just take everything in, go to the pool, just chill really.

We had a bad experience at 'O'Hana's' a few years back, think this is why we are a bit dubious about going back. Also, my kids are sooooo picky and I know we can order a kiddy meal for them, but don't feel like paying $20 + for it (understand you have to still pay the adult cost of the 'buffet' for a kiddy meal here).

I just looked at Kona Cafe and this looks really nice. Is it a nice atmosphere?

The food at Kona is better than at O'hana and we have done both on more than one occassion.

Hi - we are in a similar position to Claire in that we are wondering where to eat on our first nighgt at the poly. However, we will be flying in from the UK that day (we don't expect to get to the hotel until 6pm (ish)) - It is also the first time flying for our two children (who will be 4yrs and 8mths).

Do you recommend we just eat in the food court at the poly the first night??? is it any good??

I can totally relate to what you're saying. Kona Cafe is much smaller in size, but wonderful. Really nice.

We ate at Kona 2 weeks ago. The atmosphere is sort of like a coffee shop, nothing fancy, right inside the hotel lobby, but the food is anything but coffee shop type food. We all enjoyed our meals. We had pot stickers, wings, crab cakes, & chicken noodle soup appetizers, & the steaks were excellent..I think even better than Le Cellier.

We also had a bad experience at Poly and unless others in our party wanted to do it we've avoided it since.

Chef Mickey is my sister's 1st night tradition because the loud party celebratory atmosphere starts the trip out nicely and taking the monorail the first night is always a plus.
