First names you dislike

Apple. North. And all those other stupid celebrity kid names. Other than that, I can't think of any I really hate for the name's own sake. I'm not a fan of trendy names just because they get so overused (we know 5 Aidans well enough to be invited to birthday parties and such...) but it is the popularity I dislike, not the name.

Some of my least favorites have been Inez, Olive and Dorcas. I had an aunt by marriage named Berthadelle

I've had a couple of friends named Dorcas. I hate that name and would not be happy if my mom had chosen it for me!

I don't like the name Taylor. I have had SO many students named Taylor - probably at least 3-5 each year. Apparently everyone's mom liked that name 18-22 years ago.

I really don't like the name Kirsten (no offense to anybody named that)... yes I know it is like a legit name, but it still looks like a typo of the name Kristen to me :rotfl: Devon, Devin, Devyn and other variants of the name... it just bugs me. I have seen boys named that and I have seen girls named that, too confusing.
Boy, that one's really gained popularity over the past 20 years...currently I know more Kirstens than I do Kristins. Cutesy spellings are worthy of an eye-roll too. And I also dislike in general names that are basically made-up words like Nevaeh. I heard somebody nagging at a child named that in a store the other day and could hardly keep from laughing.

My least favourite regular, run-of-the-mill names are Adam and Rene (shudder - particularly don't like that one for some weird reason).

Hate to tell you that I've know more than one Karla. And if you said your name, I would ask, C or K.

Crazy as it is, I've had my name spelled wrong. I've received things in the mail with it spelled, Merry and Mari. And I've even met people with the same name as me, but spell it one of those two ways. One was born on Christmas, so it made sense.

I wouldn't want to be named Chelsea. Or any other name that is a place.
I get the same! I had a girl write Wyndi down for my name. Come on now, clearly I was not born in the era of tryndee spelling.
My grandma and her sister were named after cities their father traveled to. Elmira and Taza. They hated it but I thought it was pretty cool.

I don't really want to play this game because I'm afraid of hurting someone's feelings. Although, I will say that I dislike the trend in "old names" that are making a return.

Sadly, my name was one of the "disliked" names from a PP.
Oh, I love the trend. They're so timeless. Nothing cuter than a little Cora or Opal. I would have named my daughters for their grandmothers if they hadn't been so opposed to it.

I like one or two syllable names
I don't like really long name and parents insist calling the child that instead of nickname
Like Esmerelda
My husband is adamantly opposed to nicknames and so when I said I wanted to name my son William after my Dad the deal was no Bill, Billy, Will or Willy. We've never had to insist though. People don't automatically assume a nickname is used anymore.

I will pick Wendal as that's what my brother would call me to get a rise out of me.

Yes they did! Along with Tyler (for girls) and McKenzie. I was the team mom for my oldest DD's U10 soccer team and we had three Tylers, two Taylors, two McKenzies and one Kenzi.

Upon reading this question, did anybody else immediately think of this scene from Family Guy?

I dislike the name Samantha. But only because it never fails that when I answer the phone at work and say "Good afternoon, this is Vanessa" I get called Samantha. The name in general just makes me cringe now. Though I'm not fond of the name Vanessa either. I also dislike nicknames in general. Love the name Anthony, but not Tony. I would never tell anyone I hated their name though or refuse to call them by their preferred name.

I'm not sure why but it has always bugged me when people name girls boy names. Not so much unisex names like Jordan or Skyler but real boys names like Joey or Frankie. Like they couldn't find one girl name they liked. Also you'd never see anyone name a boy Linda.

Most unisex names... and the names that are becoming unisex.

As far as "cute" spellings... I wonder if the parents spelled the name "cute" on purpose or if they truly didn't know how it's spelled!
I actually had a pretty heated argument with oldest DD when she was in the 8th grade about the name Bradley. I kept saying "he" and she said no, Bradley was a girl, Bradley is a girl's name. I told her to tell my Uncle Bradley that! She also went to school with a female Michael and Christopher as well.

That's ridiculous. I saw a little girl named Liam a few weeks ago.

My sons' names are Bradley and Evan. We have seen girls with both of their names!
