First look at Art of Animation suites!

Just another time I shake my head - all I want is a comfortable bed, a hot shower and a working bathroom! I don't need all that fancy shamcy stuff - who's really in their rooms that long to notice 1/2 that stuff!! What family is really sitting around a table playing with toys - hello with the price of tickets we make sure to spend every second in the park that we can!!!!

The more I think of this the more I think trailer camping with my grandparents just with a few Lion King, Ariel or Cars stickers slapped on them. The whole notion of sleeping on the table brought back camper memories from when I was a kid with my grandparents and all of us kids fighting for who would sleep on the table, lol. Sorry If I were not DVC I would spring for two value rooms and all my kids could have beds for way less $$.

We were supposed to go to POP this Christmas and get two rooms but my SIL ended up expecting her first baby on Christmas day so we bumped our trip until June. I was so excited to hear about the suites opening because we could all be in the same room. However with everyone saying how much cheaper it would be on the boards, I thought I would check it out to be sure... :surfweb:

We always do MYW base ticket + dining. The suites end up costing $340 more for our 6night7day trip to stay at AoA (if we got the preferred rooms at POP) or $560 more to stay at AoA if we got the basic room at POP. My kids are soooo excited about the new resort so we will probably go ahead and spend the extra. Also with the dining plan we always have extra food leftover and it is nice to have a fridge and microwave! But you definitely have to weigh the options. We are staying one less day than we would otherwise and a lot of people would not want to do that!

And wow yea I would much rather be at the Poly :cloud9: but with 6 on this trip (3 adults, 2 big kids, 1 medium kid) the Poly is just not in our budget this year! We stayed at the campground last March in the cabins and LOVED that too. We are just nutty that way. We really have liked all five resorts we have stayed at for various reasons! We just love Disney. period.:hug::woohoo::lovestruc:lovestruc

Just as a point of refrence....

I checked prices for August 20th through August 24th and a standard room in an old Value Resort (Movies, Sports) was $97 a night. The Cars or Finding Nemo Suite at AoA Resort was $249 a night. I am assuming that this is Disney's Value Season for prices...so at other times of the year the price will naturally be higher.

You get a Queen and two full sized beds (full sized are pull outs). So, two standard rooms are probably better in that regard. You get two bathrooms in the suite...but you would get that with two standard rooms too.

The suite comes with a mini-kitchen with microwave, coffee maker and mini fridge. None of that in the standard rooms at all...well you can pay extra to get the little mini fridge.

So, I can see these suites being a little more money than the cost of two standard rooms based on the kitchen add ons. We just got back from 9 days in one room at All Star Sports and we had a fridge...but would have loved to have a microwave and a more natural place to eat...not to mention a little more space.

If I had more than one kid, I think this would be an easier decision...but with just three of us, we can get by with one standard room at a value or a moderate rather than the suites. But it would be really cool to try these new suites once....love the decor!

I think these are great.........

a wonderful marketing tool for DVC. ;)

I think these themed rooms are overly loud, they are like kids room. I am sure the children will love them, but adults (like myself) will feel dizzy spending time in them. I guess guests stay at Value resorts has different taste from people who prefer deluxe resorts. People stay at value resorts are looking for a place to sleep and spend more of their vacation time in the parks, people stay at deluxe resorts tended to spend more time using the facilities in the resort.

I must definitely not be in the target audience for these suites. They look horribly over designed and tacky to me. :sad2:

Thankfully there are some 25 or so other resorts to keep choosing from! :goodvibes

Many years ago I thought Disney needed accomodations like this. They have finally followed through. What I cant understand though is why Disney believe that having a pool slide or hot tub means labelling a resort as a moderate or deluxe category resort. Most vacation villlas and offsite cheap resorts have a hot tub or slide. :confused3
