I feel your pain! When I was with my ex, I had the same circle of friends. We hung out every weekend and went dancing and just had fun all the time. Then I kind of blind-sided the whole lot of them when I left my now ex. No one saw it coming...I was keeping a lot of secrets at the time...:rotfl: I reunited with Matthew (high school sweetheart...complicated relationship) before my divorce was final and they all swore we'd still be friends for life. Well, we moved to Indy and have been here since 2001. The only folks that I have socialized with over the years has been co-workers and people I go to school with. No true friends...except DH of course! I'm thankful everyday for marrying my best friend...but it would be nice to have friends to hang out with too.

You guys are my social life. I've been lucky enough to meet a few of you already and I can truthfully say that you guys rock! This cruise is giving me the opportunity to meet more lifelong friends and i'm thankful each and every day!

After all..who knew that my BFF was that crazy gal who we all watched and waited while she was having little Evan?! You guys would be frightened with the similarities between us that we've uncovered thus far...:rotfl:

Thanks for being my invisible friends! :grouphug:

That is so sweet Brandie. I am sort of in the same boat. I moved from my hometown in Illinois to Missouri when I was 21. I live in a small town where everyone has known each other for years and not sure about outsiders. I have one friend that is not a family member. I met my DH not long after I moved and he has his friends but it isn't the same. They are nice to me and I have known them for 12 years but I always know if something should happen their loyalties would lie with him as they should. I too am so happy to have this board as a lifeline. This is a place where I can be myself .

So....very.....sick. :sad1:

I got a flu shot, but I could swear this is the flu. If it is, that would be the second year in a row that I got a different strain of flu than the flu shot was for and I would be very, very angry.:headache:

Nausea, aches and pains, fever, chills, weak. I went to bed at 6:00 p.m. last night (!) and didn't get up until 8:00 this morning. Then I just turned around a took a two hour nap. That's not right. Right?

Anyway, I'll be here for a minute, but wanted to explain my absence in case anyone noticed I wasn't around.

Get well soon Dodie!

I NEVER get a flu shot, I like to make my body fight them on its own.
Kat gets one and she always gets sick anyways.

I got the flu shot and the flu this year too. I know it is a crap shoot to get the shot, but I get it b/c of work. Most years it works. Feel better. Sleep, keep the fluids going...

Speaking of smokes.....and John this applies less to you, because you can buy them legally whenever......does anyone smoke Cuban cigars?

Whenever I went to Canada with my dad, he would stop and buy one or two to smoke while we were there. Thinking about having one in Nassau, just for him.

My hubby enjoys a Cuban every once in a while. I think the last time he had one was on our wedding day.

Sitting here tonight, I thought of a few things....

Is there someplace/something to do at 4 or 5 am? I am pretty used to only a few hours of sleep and I don't want to wake my cabin mate up with the TV.

I was Wondering the same thing. If I get more than 6 hours of sleep, I get a terrible headache. Can we sit on a deck chair and watch the sun come up?

Sorry to hear you're sick Dodie. I'm just getting over a cold so I feel your pain. Get well soon.

Cute story about names.

I have a sister named Kim. I will also have a Kim as a nephew soon (my oldest niece's fiance).

Christmas gets confusing, and if you aren't paying close attention, you aren't sure if someone is talking about girl-Kim or boy-Kim. Totally screwed DP up his first Christmas with that one.

Talk about confusing... "Tom".

My dad is Tom. My brother's kid (my nephew) is Tom(my). My oldest son has Thomas as a middle name.

My ex-husband is Tom. His dad is Tom AND his step-dad is Tom.

My ex and I got a divorce and I marry a .... wait for it.... Tom.

Our son has the middle name Tom.

To make things more interesting.... My oldest son is Alexander and my husbands daughter from his first marriage is Alexandra.

Since moving to Chicago 7+ years ago, I haven't had any "real" friends until meeting Shanan, so I can relate to having your best friend/partner being your only "real" friend.
This board has a great group of people I'm proud to call my "invisible" friends, however because of various meets and the upcoming cruise many of you are becoming visible :flower3:

I live near Chicago!! :flower3:

Cool! You should come to a meet next time it happens, they're fun :thumbsup2

Actually, I'm in Arlington Heights (NW burbs as well), I just list and say Chicago so everyone knows what area I'm talking about.

I'm in Algonquin!

I was at the Doorway to Dreams meet before Christmas. Wait... was it that long ago? Ah, I guess it was.

It was before Christmas, but I don't remember when; sorry I didn't say 'hi' (and if I did, sorry I don't remember  ).
If you were at the lunch afterwords we were one of the couples sitting at the far end of the back room :)
