I remember "Hey Mabel, Black Label." I wouldn't have thought of it if I hadn't read it, but I sure remember those commercials.

When I was in college, the drink of choice was Little Kings - a "cream ale" brewed in Cincinnati I think. I don't know why. It was cheap. It was in these cute little green bottles. That and whatever the beer was in the 25-cent pitchers on Monday nights at the Chug, a dive near campus.

An amaretto sour was my very first drink...

I now prefer Southern Comfort and 7-UP. Or pineapple juice and Malibu rum. Or lapu lapus. Or amaretto on the rocks.

Tonight we went to our favorite restaurant. The bar there is lacking greatly but we've been trying to come up with new cocktails. Before dinner I tried mixing vodka (Absolut) and amaretto with a bit of cherry juice. That was very yum.

After dinner we needed to fin something other than the standby (Whippletini, Yum!!) so we did a search and came up with a Cherry Blow Pop. It was Southern Comfort, Amaretto and grenadine. Wow was than good!!!!!

I have a question for ASK TRACY.

You said we can't take opened food onboard. I will presume that includes any custom candy we make at Goofy's. Right?

Thanks,
Kim

Correct. It must be commercially packaged to bring it onboard.

So did ya'll hear about my fab dress I got at JCPenney's today and how much it cost?

I love that Jen! And what a deal. I have converted to JC Penney's They had the cutest dresses.

Swell, Sweetie!!! Now WHERE'D you get YOUR iPod?!?? ;)

When I was in college, the drink of choice was Little Kings - a malt liquor brewed in Cincinnati I think. I don't know why. It was cheap. It was in these cute little green bottles that looked like barrels. That and whatever the beer was in the 25-cent pitchers on Monday nights at the Chug, a dive near campus.

OMG Dodie's a Cardinal.... Do you know Dave?!? :rotfl:

I found out my interview has been moved to Monday at 2:30. Wish me luck. At least I have a paper to write that will keep me busy this weekend.

I just want y'all to know that we have paid the full amount for the cruise....

So know we can't (and don't want to) go back anymore, we have to stay 4 days on a ship full with boozers....
Hmmmm, if you can't beat them join them......:cool1:

Hmmm...didn't I drink with you somewhere? Oh, yeah.....AROUND THE WORLD!!!

OMG Dodie's a Cardinal.... Do you know Dave?!? :rotfl:

No, but most days I had to walk by the plaque in what was then the Radio, Television, and Communications Building that was dedicated from him to all of the C students to come after him. But this was "a few" years ago (in the early 80's). Of course, now he has a whole building there named after him, the David Letterman Communication and Media Building.

And you are familiar enough with The Chug to associate it immediately with good old Ball State University how? :rotfl:

I get around... Sister's a Butler Bulldog, I used to watch Dave's morning show, have followed his career almost as closely as Mindy follows Will's whereabouts (Listen...you can hear the "Hey I'm right here" coming...:rotfl: ) I've heard of The Chug... Never had the "pleasure," though...

I also thought of Hudsucker Proxy references... "You're a MUNCIE girl?" :lmao:

50? Ex? EEEWWWWWWW! You are taking me back to my Dad and his bonspiel weekends. We lived crawling distance to the curling rink.

DH liked one of my choices from today - Old Speckled Hen. I bought it simply because I couldn't stop looking at the name. That's how I pick beer for him. I also picked up Headstrong Pale Ale and some sort Chocolate Stout. I tend to just get him samples of imports

My choice today - coffee, with cream amaretto, caramel Baileys and a spot of creme de cacao. It is better with regular amaretto and Baileys, but this worked too!

:surfweb:

I remember the Hunt Club meetings in our basement back in the 70s. :)

12-15 guys drinking beer for 50c a bottle (for the hunt fund, of course), and a case (24) was about $6.

Dad would throw a plastic tarp over the pool table and the next morning it would be covered in empties.
50, Red Cap, Bradings, you name it.

Before Hunt they would go right to the brewery in Toronto and stock up.
Buy 4 get one free!!!!:thumbsup2
Along with free glasses, cups, or whatever promotion was going on at the time.
They would buy 30 or 40 cases at that time for the 2 weeks of hunt.
Some brought their own..:lmao:

Meeeeeemmooooorrrrriiiiieeeessss.......

:rotfl: Oh. My. Goodness. :rotfl2:

I've always been a big Dave fan too. When I was a kid (I'm really dating myself now), he was the weekend weatherman on channel 13, the NBC affiliate here in Indy. He was a smart*$# even then and wouldn't actually deliver the weather in a normal way. My dad hated him. Used to call him "that dumb long-haired guy."

One of my favourite beer advertisements is "Cincinatti Cream Ale's" logo of "Who wants the handsome waiter"

Although not mine in the pic's, I do have this tray.

If that is the same Black Label we would drink in college, that was the good stuff. Pils and Schlitz was the bad stuff. Luckily I went to school close to Yeungling before it became popular. That was usually the cheap pitchers at the bars. :lovestruc I still love Yeungling Lager.

I put all three in the same cat - bad. Now Yeungling is not my neck of the woods so have no history with it.

:rotfl2: Ever tried 50? :lmao:

Dad always drank Bradings Ale with the stag head on a green label.

When they discontinued that he drank Ex.

Never had 50 John. My dad bounced around with the local New England beers. Kinda whatever was on sale. Carling, Knickabocker, Narraganssett, Genessee.

Just thought of something.

"Hey Mabel! Black Label!"

(Old beer commercial for Canadian beer Carling Black Label for those who dont know)

Old beer commercials are cool. :goodvibes

OK... The Europeans and the Aussies have been getting a lot of love on the podcast lately, and why not... I love the accents too!!

But let's not forget our neighbors, the Canadians!!! Let's give THEM some love, too!!

Maybe we should have a night of chat or on the thread speaking in Canadian... Aboot instead of about, end sentences with "eh," and so on... :thumbsup2
