For the motion sickness...

I use the less drowsy dramamine. I start taking them about 2 days before I leave for the cruise. I take them at night before I go to bed. I sleep off the sleepy part of the medicine and it continues working the rest of the day! I've found that if you wait to take them until you get on the ship or once it's moving...it doesn't work quite as well. Tried that with my first cruise and it took me most of the week to get used to the motion before I stopped feeling sick.

Hi Brandie! Thought I'd check in and say hello! Thanks for the advice on getting by the seasickness. Some of my problem is in my head too. Hey, if that's all I have to worry about in life, I guess I'm doin' good!:cutie:

Hey All,

As some of you know, DH and I are new to cruising and I'm curious to know what the gals are wearing in the evenings.:donald:

:confused3 Hopefully some clothes. This is a family cruise.:thumbsup2 I have never cruised before, but I would like to offer a similar question to the gents. Are we talking days with Bermuda shorts/swim trunks and nights in Dockers? Top hats and tails? Sequined loin cloths? Anybody coordinating with their wife? Er strike that. Ladies, are you packing clothes for your man that coordinate with what you are planning on wearing?

That's a good question. On my only other cruise (on a different cruise line) everyone was expected to dress up for dinner. I don't mind dressing up, but I don't like the shoes that go with it--especially on a rocky cruise ship. (I was having enough trouble keeping my balance anyway.) I might show up all dressed up except for my tennis shoes.

I usually wear khakis and a long sleeved shirt. Same type of clothes I wear to work every day. We may coordinate with the kids once for pictures.

I found this info on the Disney website FAQ on what to pack:

First night: cruise casual — no shorts, swimwear or tank tops
One pirate or tropical night (deck party)
One "dress-up night" — jacket for men, dress or pantsuit for women
Final night: cruise casual — no shorts, swimwear or tank tops

I'm happy to see that they didn't try to regulate my footwear but the next question is--

What the heck do you wear on "pirate or tropical night" and which one is it? Pirate or Tropical?

I'm dressing up for our formal night. Gotta check Chris' tux.... Plus that gives me an excuse to go shopping.

The rest of the time I'll be in my swimsuit or casual clothes. I'M ON VACATION!

My understanding is that on pirate night, dressing as a pirate is optional. We're planning on it--well at least me, I can only think it adds to the fun.

Yeah that does sound like fun but how far do you go with it? Do people go all out or what? Do most people dress up?

Some of the pics on the cruise thread show people in pirate themed t-shirts all the way up to full costume and make-up. I would think take it to whatever level would make you happy and comfortable.

Some dress, some don't, but when they do, it's full pirate gear. Lots of pics on the cruise board.

My sister and I are dressing up too. She just got her pirate costume in the mail. I bought my Daughter's around Halloween. I bought Tyson's too but it won't fit so my Mom is making my Tyson's and my nephews. I am so glad we won't be the only ones dressing up. We figure if the is a Pirate and Princess party we are covered there too.

One more question on the dress up night. My DH does not have a jacket does he really need one? I have seen conflicting info. He will wear a dress shirt and tie but I hate to go and buy a jacket he will never wear again.

Here are some pics from the cruise board that were really cute.

I've posted this on several other threads, so it may be a repeat for some of you! :wave2:

What the heck I'm going on a Disney Cruise--might as well dress up like one of the pirates of the Caribbean. ;)

I have also seen the conflicting stories. It was my understanding that we would only need a jacket if we were making reservations at Palo. Otherwise it was cruise casual, with the exception of dressing for Pirate night, if you so wished.

Anitawood and I have never cruised before either. I don't own a tux and don't expect to be renting or buying one. If we did have to dress up I was thinking something like this only if necessary.

Seems like even the above would be over dressing. If I could get away with it I'd have shorts or a bathing suit on all day. It will probably be more like shorts/t during the day and slacks/polo at night. I'm going on vacation and I want to be comfortable. And this includes beer. ;)

A bird or monkey on the shoulder wouldn't hurt. pirate:

Becky. I seriously am not planning on bringing a jacket. I'm not even wearing a tie. I doubt they refuse to seat me. I'd say not to worry. :)
