Ok Collective...I need some creative help!!!

As most of you know, my parents are gifting this podcast cruise to my brother and his wife for Christmas. None of them are DISers, but we thought it would be fun for them to join Matthew and I on this cruise. My brother and his wife don't get the opportunity to take these "fancy" vacations...so as a thank you for all they do to help my parents, this will be their Christmas gift. We've all been in on the plan for months...and have been purchasing their gifts with the cruise in mind. They're getting things like luggage, beach chair covers, sand toys, snorkel gear...just random "stuff" that will leave the absolutely confused as they are opening them.

The final gift that they will open will contain a locked treasure box. My mom (sneaky little devil) has attached tons of pirate-like skeleton keys to their gifts. In order to unlock the final box containing the biggest surprise, they will have to collect all of these keys. Some are attached to the outside of the packages, but some (this is going to be a loooooooooooooooooong morning...LOL) are hidden INSIDE the actual gift itself. Like inside a shaving kit, etc...I know this because my Mom called me frantic one morning because she wasn't sure if she had wrapped THE key in one of the gifts that's being stored at my house or not. I had to unwrap presents to find it! :rotfl:

So...we need some kind of catchy saying/phrase to tell them that they need to be collecting these keys as they go along. We'll print this on some paper and make it all distressed looking...maybe like a treasure map or something. I am positively CLUELESS when it comes to this stuff. Can you guys come up with some kind of fun saying that will alert them to collecting these keys as they open their gifts? I'm thinking something pirate-y...

:flower3:

I would head over to the DISign board and post your request. They are so creative and will make a letter for you.
Good luck.

Those shoes are HOT!

I LOVE that idea!:goodvibes :goodvibes :goodvibes :goodvibes :goodvibes

Oh heaven help us...now she's thinking about turning the whole gift opening extravaganza into a scavenger hunt for them. Making them open their gifts in a specific order and giving them clues as to what gift they have to open next...:scared1:

Thank you. Thank you. Thank you, again.

I have a bit of a quandary, similar to Brandie.

Namine and I are giving each other the cruise as a birthday/Christmas present. No big deal there, we are both pumped and excited (me more than him, but he hasn't been bitten by the bug yet;) ).

Where I am looking for ideas is how to tell our families. When I went down as a college program participant, it was easy to explain it away as an intern in the happiest place on earth and had a going away party. His family isn't really the vacation type, and mine will roll their eyes into the backs of their heads. I realize there are only 37 or so days until Christmas, but why plan everything so far in advance?!?!

I'm confused (shocker). What exactly are you wanting to tell your family? That you are giving each other a cruise?

They wouldn't understand if we just went on a cruise....let alone try to explain who it was with. :grouphug:
I know from previous experience. Mum went on a Harley Cruise last year, and everyone in the family treated her like she had the plague and lost her marbles.
But they might understand it a bit better if it was a gift?

Marbles??? Who has marbles???

I have a problem meeting the expectations of my family. I stopped trying a long time ago...no excuses, this is me, and this is what I do.

Good Lord we have some of the same family members! They are type that work every single day of their lives and then drop dead having done nothing, but work. You've both worked hard and can well afford to take the cruise. Why should anyone question it? Personally, if this is going to become a family mini-drama, don't say anything till you get ready to leave. Why listen to 5 months of grief? We're here to share the excitement with you.
