first evening EMH without wristbands - DD's report

i posted this on the disunplugged board, but since we discussed this topic here as well, i thought you'd also be interested.

DD called yesterday - she said that she was at the Magic Kingdom on Sunday evening for the first evening EMH without wristbands.

She said it was a pain.
Not only do you have to show your resort ID to get on each ride, the cast members have to read each one to look at the validity dates.

DD said it seriously slowed down the lines at the rides.
And this is at a time when, according to DD, there haven't been any lines in the parks during the day.

She said that she doesn't think she'll go to any other of the EMH evenings during her visit because the new system was so annoying.

Other than wristbandless EMH evenings, DD is having a spectacular time.

And by the way, she's been able to make some last minute ADRs, despite free dining.

Let's hope it's just down to teething problems and that things will speed up once the CMs get the hang of the new system.

That's very encouraging news about the ADRs. When you say last minute, are you talking on the day, day before, a few days before?

That's very encouraging news about the ADRs. When you say last minute, are you talking on the day, day before, a few days before?

she got a walk up ADR at Tokyo Dining....i think it was on friday night...which is amazing, considering the park was PACKED on friday night...
and she got another one on the morning of...but i don't remember for which restaurant..

At least they are checking the resort id. It was very annoying when I was there last Christmas and there were people getting on the rides during EMH who quite clearly didn't have wristbands but were still allowed on the rides because the CM's couldn't be bothered to check or say anything. Hopefully this way will avoid these things happening in the future and would I thought speed up when everyone gets the hang of it.

when we were there in november, the CMs checked everyone's wristbands on all of the rides we went on....and it was really fast, since everyone just lifted their hand up in the air as they walked by so the CM could see it easily..

DD said the lines were really slow on sunday, since each person had to stop to actually show the key card to the CM, and the CM had to read the validity date...that takes time...

I think the wristbands were open to abuse due to resort guests lending their resort id to friends in the park who didn't have resort id so that they could get the wristbands. I suppose there's no other way around it than for everyone to show their own resort id at the ride. I did see one large group of people doing this, taking it in turns to go and get their wristbands with the same id card..... sad to say they were English too.

When we did EMH evening in MK last month they were giving wristbands out to put on yourself, I am sure many will have got them and gone around again and got more. It was packed, 45-60 min lines and they ran out of wristbands (I wonder why?) great being in park until 1am but it was definitely busier than a normal day without EMH.

i guess what they need to have then is some sort of card reader system that reads whether a wristband has already been issued for a key card that evening...
sort of like the fastpass machines, which know when you're not yet entitled to another fastpass yet.

That seems the logical thing to do, unfortunately, Disney have stopped doing things logically lately, or so it seems!
