first dance song

Hi! I am sure this has been discussed before, but I hope for some new advise...

What song did you use for your first dance? Was it something Disney, or something else? DF and I thought we had our song picked out, now he's not so sure. I love 'A whole new world' but my sister used that at her wedding, so any tips would be great!

We had a jazz trio and didn't pick out a first song (it just wasn't one of those details since we knew we wouldn't have a DJ to play "our" song). They picked out "Pennies from Heaven" which was very appropriate! I loved it!

I used Disney music for the ceremony so didn't want to use it again at the reception. We danced to Where are You Going by the Dave Matthews Band. We didn't want anything to slow because DH is a foot taller than me and we are very awkward when we dance! I loved our song and it wasn't something too common.

Oh and we haven't decided if this will be the processional or the first dance. My half sister is playing violin for the ceremony, so I need to talk to her. My brother plays guitar and can play this song, so I am sure she can play it. (She's a professional)

We are using Phil Vasar's "Stand Still." Not a lot of people probably know it, but it has beautiful lyrics and music, and the chorus gives me chills every time I hear it.

My daughter and her husband chose "YOU and Me" by Dave Matthews. For their give away to all the guests they burned CD's and of all the songs that were going to be played at the reception. It is my favorite CD now and I listen to it in my car all the time.

I've been thinking of asking my DH's cousin to sing At Last for us. Otherwise, the contenders are All for One by Bryan Adams/Sting/Rod Stewart, Power of Love by Frankie Goes to Hollywood, Skeleton Song by Sevendust (DH's favourite band, and it has a beautiful melody), and This Love from the Cruel Intentions soundtrack (I can't remember who the artist is).

We used Josh Groban's, "For Always, Forever" as our first dance song. DJ Scott Played "When You Wish Upon a Star" after he first announced us (one of our only "Disney" touches) then we went right into our first dance.

My only advice is to try to find an artist you both love and connect to and look for lyrics that speak to you as a couple. Then you'll find exactly what's right!
