First Cruise questions

Can I make reservations for Atlantis "Beach Day" in advance? I'm a DVC member, in case that matters. Would I call member services? Also, any ideas what to do the day we get off the ship waiting for 4PM departure back to NY? I won't have a car and am leaving on Amtrak.(Orlando) Some poor planning on my part here.
I'm sure someone has a safe and enjoyable plan for this type of problem

You can make all shore excursion reservations 60 - 90 days in advance (it depends on when your final payment is due). Not sure if you'd call member services or DCL directly, but I think it would be DCL. We had our reservations through a travel agent, but we made shore excursions through the DCL shore excursion number.

I assume you're taking a town car back to the train station? I'd suggest you stay onboard until the last minute (I'm pretty sure that's 9:00 am), enjoying a sit down breakfast with your servers. If you have a towncar, maybe ask for a "grocery" stop, and go by a Target/Wal Mart and pick up a book or new CD or game? It should be about an hour drive from Port Canaveral to the train station, so you will have some time to kill. You'd probably be better off renting a one-way car so you could poke around Cocoa Beach (visit Ron Jons maybe?) or go to Downtown Disney in that in between time.

CAN you rent a car for the day you get off of the ship. If yes, then cancel DCL's transfers if you have them. You should be able to get a car for the day for around $50. Then you have options. The least expensive would be to go to the beach somewhere around the port. Another on that lots of people do is go to Downtown Disney to ease themselves back into reality. Wander around the shops, have lunch and the head out to Amtrack.
