Trying to plan our first day in WDW and include the fireworks show (since it Sept. and they only happen on Sat). I have heard of a balcony at the Contemporary resort to view the fireworks. Is this a good place? Do you have to be a guest there? (We will be staying at the FW cabins). There will be 6 of us, DH, DD 12, DS 9, DD 1 yr, DN 23, and myself. Also would we take the boat to and from? Thanks in advance

Anybody can go out on the observation deck at the Contemporary. We've done it a couple of times after eating at Chef Mickey's downstairs. (You don't have to do that, either, but it's a blast! :D )

You walk through the California Grill restaurant on the top floor to get to the observation deck. Just ask the host(ess) when you get up there and they'll point you in the right direction. The view from up there is incredible. You can even hear the music from Spectromagic, and see the tiny dot of Tinkerbell's flight. All the lights from the MK and the boats on the lagoon are lovely.

The observation deck offers a great view of the fireworks. And if you plan on dinner at Chef Mickey's, you can make a night of it. :)

Another great place to watch the fireworks is from the Polynesian Beach. You could plan on eating at 'Ohana or the Kona Cafe and then stroll out to the beach afterwards to watch. If you get there early enough you can grab a hammock and really relax.

You can take the water launches to both of these resorts, or you can take the bus to the TTC and take a spin on the monorail, which is always fun for the kids.

Either option would make for a great first night.

Enjoy!

For our first Disney night we have the Magic Kingdom fireworks cruise booked. They pick us up (MIL, husband, 9yr son and myself) up at the Wilderness Lodge (where we are staying for 6 nights) and take us to front of the Magic Kingdom. Cant wait - I think this is a good way to start our vacation.
