Hi!

My high functioning autism spectrum son loves fireworks because he thinks they are "beautiful" but is afraid of the noise. He hates loud noises, especially sudden loud noises.

Is there a spot to watch any of the fireworks shows at any of the parks where the sound won't be as intense? I've thought of ear plugs but he won't wear them. Will still bring a pair, JIC.

Thanks!!

Have you tried having him wear noise canceling headphones he could try them at most stores that carry electronics

My son had the same problem. We used the earmuffs like the kind you wear at the firing range. At first he put his ipod earbuds in and the muffs over them and listened to music. Then just the muffs so he could hear the dialog during the show. Now he takes them on and off as he can now anticipate what's coming. But he still carries the earmuffs with him every day we are in the parks - "just in case."

Perhaps try outside of the park. I've heard you can see the fireworks really well at the boat dock of the transportation center, at the 4th floor viewing area of the contemporary and on the Polynesian beach. I know in a few spots they pipe in the music, but the booming sounds should be less startling.

My DS4 is afraid of fireworks also. I thought it was going to be a big issue at the Christmas party, but prior to going we watched them a billion times on Youtube and practiced saying "boom" at each firework. Then when we were in the parks, we were sitting over in Tomorrowland and he said "boom" each time he saw a firework. So, it helped him know what to expect. He was still really tense, but didn't freak out. Then the Tomorrowland Christmas Show started and he was thrilled (which was the reason we didn't leave before the fireworks).

You can't see the whole show, but we saw them from Cinderella's Royal Table. It was really cool and we really couldn't hear them at all.

Thanks for the suggestions.

I think we might try the beach at the Polynesian. Sounds like it'd be kind of fun to watch from there too.

Hopefully no one's balloon will pop within earshot of him either. That is actually his biggest fear to the point of being a phobia. He starts to shake with fear and cry if a balloon is near him in an enclosed space. He seems to be OK at fairs, etc.

We always like catching the ferry back to the parking and we watch the fireworks from the back of the boat.

We are getting my 3 FX kids the noise cancelling ear muffs.

last time we were there at MK there were times duringthe day that daytime fireworks that were part of the castle show, something else to think about while at MK. this was more upsetting to one of my grandsons as you got no warning unless you kept track of time and show times. this was hard to prepare him ofr.
