***DISCLAIMER: I will not pout if the fireworks are cancelled on our trip. Ok, maybe a little but not enough to prevent Santa from visiting this year or fellow DISers to scowl at me. Although I've never visited during the holidays to see "snow" fall.***

When looking ahead on accueweather (perhaps there is a more reliable site, while I know it's not precise, especially this far out), for our dates of 12/3-12/6, I see what appears to be high wind? Example: Thursday 12/3 gusts up to 14mph, friday 12/4 gusts up to 14mph, friday 12/5 gusts up to 16mph, and saturday 12/6 gusts up to 8mph.
Do these sound like high winds, winds that would cancel? What is the number the fire marshall would normally cancel? Is there a number or a way to tell?

Once again, not complaining or feeling like I am owed anything, just preparing :-)

That does not seem like Santa Ana weather...typically the winds are in the 20+ mph range with gusts even stronger. What does the forecast say for humidity?

ETA: just because they are not Santa Ana winds doesn't mean they will not cancel fireworks, but I feel like that projection falls into the moderate category and will likely be okay....

There is no magic number. It depends on the winds aloft AND the direction of those winds.

The fire marshal will stop/cancel the show when the direction of the fall out will land on the freeways. They will attempt to do the show every night.

The only way to know is to watch the test balloons. And that doesn't happen til 30 mins prior, and even then, that is only the first. They will keep checking until showtime. EVEN with that, if the shows start, and the winds shift/increase, the show will stop.

I just watched the test balloon go up. It's drifting gently south. When they cancelled them, it was drifting west. Not sure what all this means but hoping the north to south wind means we're on.

West is bad. There are houses west. South is usually ok, unless it is strong.

Correct. It also depends on how low the humidity levels are (i.e. how dry things are) and how long the humidity has been low. The drier things are and the longer those conditions have prevailed, the more dangerous the fire risk.

To the OP: start looking for red flag warnings on the National Weather Service forecasts for Anaheim. You will get more accurate forecasts closer to your dates.

It only takes as little as 5 knots blowing in from the east or south for them to have to cancel the show as it moves the fallout outside the boundaries of the park.

If the balloon travels south or east, they have a much higher wind threshold to be able to fire in.

Thank you. And will check out the suggested website.
I just read somewhere that it snows during the lighting of the castle, so we may get snow anyway! Yay!

Generally, even when they cancel fireworks, it will snow. It takes a few minutes after the announcement, but they will play the finale music and it snows.
