I just had one of those freaky, psychic days yesterday.
My horoscope yesterday morning said "You will find a way to leave work in the middle of the afternoon." I'm thinking, "Yeah, fat chance of that." My part-time person started a new job so I'm working till 5 every night till I replace her.
Friday is usually my slow day but I had this big project that, although completed, needed revisions that involved a lot of typing. I'm supposed to get an hour for lunch but only took about 15 minutes to eat in our breakroom so I could finish the project by the deadline. As I was wolfing down my food, I was thinking--It would be nice if we had a fire drill today so I could take a little guilt-free break. It was raining but I had my umbrella and I was imagining this little break.
Back to work and about 45 minutes later...the fire alarm begins to go off. Ooh...I swear I never left my desk! We leave the building and I make my student employees take everything even though they complain. I always tell them, I don't care if it's just a drill--take your purse, your books, your keys. If it is a real fire, you don't want to be stuck without that stuff. Thank goodness I did that because...a compressor blew up in the basement. By the time we got to the second floor, the stairwell was filling up with smoke. I got everybody downstairs and outside. After much waiting in the rain, we were told the smoke was too heavy inside still and we could go home for the day. No one was hurt and there was no damage to the building.
So, I DID leave work in the afternoon today and I did have a fire alarm. When I told DH the whole story when he got home--He's begun calling me Firestarter.
Did you ever have a day when you were afraid to wish for anything because they were all coming true in a creepy way? It was very "Monkey's Paw," if you remember that old story! Now, I'm anxiously waiting for the horoscope that says I'm going to win the lottery!
