HOWTO: Fire Proof Your Christmas Tree

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Jack Eden, a Washington garden expert, published the following formula for fire proofing a fresh cut Christmas tree. When you first bring your Christmas tree home, mix the ingredients in a five gallon painter plastic bucket. Cut the bottom one-half inch off the tree trunk and place the end of the tree in the solution. Locate the tree and bucket in either a sheltered location or in a garage. Be sure to support the tree to eliminate any risk of it toppling over.

Soak for five days total. After 2 1/2 days, refill the bucket with a second mixture of the ingredients. At the end of the five day period, bring the tree into your home and set it into a tree stand designed to hold fluids. Keep the fluid reservoir filled with more of the mixture throughout the holiday period. A typical Christmas tree will soak up about 5 gallons during the holiday period.

Fire Proof Christmas Tree Recipe
Hot Water - 2 gallons
Karo Syrup - 16 oz.
Liquid Bleach - 4 oz.
Vinegar (any type) - 2 oz.
Woolite - 2 oz.
20 Mule Team Borax - 1/2 teaspoon

It does get a little stinky after a long time, but by then it is time to toss the thing anyway. :teeth: :goodvibes

Well, given that this is almost the time when they start cutting down fresh Christmas trees, it may be a lot more current than you may think.
I am ready for a Christmas tree! I could use a little bright and sparkly in my living room.

A former co-worker of mine moved here 4 years ago and put up his Christmas tree then and hasn't taken it down.
And one department at my old job left their office Christmas tree up year round but it shifted from Christmas tree. to MLK Day tree, to Washington's birthday tree to Easter tree to Mother's Day tree, to Father's day tree......etc.

Part of the reason they should delete old/inactive threads from years ago.
LOL. A solution to a problem that isn't a problem. But seriously, for commercial websites like the DIS, those archive threads are a pretty big source of hits and hits mean more revenue.

Seriously doubt a 17 yr old thread with no other activity generates a lot of 'hits'.............LOL.
