Large fire breaks out on lot at Universal Studios
18 minutes ago

UNIVERSAL CITY, Calif. (AP) — A Los Angeles fire official says a large fire is burning on a lot at Universal Studios.

Los Angeles fire Capt. Frank Reynoso says the blaze was reported just before dawn Sunday on a sound stage on a back lot. There are no immediate reports of injuries.

Reynoso says filming could have been going on at the time and that there has been at least one explosion. He says the fire is contained to the back lot, and firefighters are working to ensure the flames don't spread to nearby brush.

About 100 city and county firefighters are helping studio firefighters tackle the blaze.

Has this affected the Amusement Park?

I guess they don't know enough right now to determine the affect on the theme park.

Just heard on the news it has hit the King Kong ride and their film vault.........
What a tragic loss!:(

So far no one hurt... I hope all the firefighters stay safe.

The news is saying they're not getting enough water into the fire - the smoke is still black. But no injuries despite filming taking place, Thank God.....
Film vault? If that's the case, that's just about 100 years of Hollywood history.....Once again, I do not like to see things like this.
I'm bringing my radio to the beach today (Smith's Point, Ahhhhh, tranquility!)
I'll check back when I return. I hope everyone - everything is okay.....:grouphug:

I just saw this on Headline News... has anyone heard yet what caused it? I just hope everyone is ok.

Fox was saying they thought it was a propane tank that started the fire.

I don't care about King Kong...that can be rebuilt but I HOPE the film vault won't be taken. A LOT of history would be lost.

They just said the vault is gone!

There still not saying anything about the film vault yet.

NO WAY!

Thanks for the update. I can't believe the vault is gone...that's 100 years of irreplaceable history. Truly a sad day.

Yes...all they will say now is that "conflicting reports" have said it's gone. I certainly hope it's NOT true!

Why would any company put all of it's film in one place? I realize there is only one "original" film....but they make copies even in the old days....why aren't those all kept in various locations? Losing the original is devasting, but losing any record of it because they didn't keep copies elsewhere is really just unimaginable in this day and age! And irresponsible for those involved in it's keeping.

California is known for devasting earthquakes, which can destory entire areas, so it's not like they were PollyAnna enough to think that nothing would happen. Fires happen all the time too.

Let's hope that the film vault was just one of many locations that they keep copies of films. Otherwise, you can bet there will be heads rolling in Hollywood!
