Monday Morning there was an arson at DD's school. We are on spring break this week so that is good. Long story short it damaged 7 classrooms (1st & 2nd grade), w/3 (K) more needing cleaning for smoke. The 7 classrooms will be unusable for the rest of the year.

So school is closed on Monday so the teachers can get organized, grades 3-6, plus Gifted 1/2 (DD's Class) are to go back on Tuesday. The rest of the school will return on Wed. They should have the K classes ready by then. The rest of the 1st & 2nd graders will meet in the gym & library for about 6 weeks until the portables arrive and are setup (we still have about 11 weeks of school left). Gym and Library will still be going on as well. I feel bad for the poor kids (and teachers). I mean how much learning can really go on w/7 other classes (gym) meeting in the same area? I also feel bad for these teachers some of them lost ALL of their teaching materials. The district/school will be starting a fund for them to help replace their materials.

All in all it damaged 1/3 of the school. The fire department is literally across the street. I can't imagine what would have happened had they been farther away.

I am glad that for whatever reason my DD's 1/2 class is in the 3rd grade wing. We are really lucky because her classroom is right next to the one where the fire was started, but fortunatly there is a hallway between the two classrooms, so the fire went in the other direction.

Sorry your community is going through this.

Have they caught the arsonist yet?

Sorry to hear about your DD's school. I know what you are going through. We had 1 elementary school and 2 high schools torched with in 2 years. The elementary and 1 high school were set by the same kids on the same night. The kids mother still can't understand why her "babies" had to go to prison. "As kids will be kids!" :confused3

That really sucks. I hope they catch the people who did this, soon.

Sorry about the school. Hope they catch who ever did it.

They had a school here in a town next to us that burned down a little while ago. Building was old enough that is didin't have to follow the fire code and have sprinklers. Fire Fighters said that if the building did have sprinklers it wouldn't have burned to the ground that way it did.

They put in a bill asking for funding to put sprinkler systems into the building that don't have thenm but our politicians voted no on it:confused3 .

I so feel for the principal of the school. She has been w/the school in one form or another since it opened. First as a parent, then as a teacher, then trainer and now principal. It is the school's 20th anniversary. She still lives in the school area. She must just be devistated.

I am going to go thru my extra school supplies to take over to the school this week. I'm going to Costco today and I will pick up some more school supplies while I'm there.

We had the same happen here. Except it was electrical problem. The school is one of the oldest schools in town but it has been updated and everything. They lost almost all of the old building, adminstrative office was hit hard. The whole school has to be redone literally. They were placed on the college campus stadium for two weeks, and now are at a church that has a school.
