I did a brief live report from OKW, but I stopped mid-trip. On Sun., we left OKW, from MGM, & drove to HH. Should have been about 5 hrs., but a tractor trailer went off I-95 & we were detoured thru rural Georgia. Luckily, it was daylight & we followed the Ga. license plates so we didn't get lost. Trip took 7 hrs., so we arrived for some take-out from Guiseppe's & sleep time. We spent one day at the pool & two days at the beach- unlike last year, we had great weather. Unfortunately, we woke to a blackout of all of HHI on Tues. morning--No Coffee (!!!) until power came back briefly for 15 min.-enough time for a quick pot- but we lost power again. We headed to the beach. The Beach House pool remained closed all day & the snack bar was on emergency power-grilling burgers, dogs & sausage. We're not sure when the power returned, but we were able to eat dinner at Scott's.
Luckily, we had our Private Affair scheduled for Mon. night. Chef Gordon came thru beautifully for us, esp. since we are following So.Beach & needed low carbs. During dinner, we discussed the Spartina Grill, which closed. He mentioned that a new restaurant, the Garden Oak Grill, moved into the space. While he hadn't eaten there, he heard good things. We enjoyed a nice dinner there on Weds. Not really a family restaurant, but kid-friendly. Youngest DS(9) had Angel Hair Marinara. I loved my Spinach Salad & DS(16) liked the pasta pie. This was the kind of dinner we hoped to find on HH, perhaps where the locals eat. Off Rt 278, on Marshland Drive. All & all, a wonderful trip with a perfect combo of OKW & HH.
