finger scanner @ the parks

Actually, yes, it is criminal to give a partially used park ticket. It is a FL law, not just a Disney policy. Located in the FL Criminal Statutes under Fraudulent Practices:

817.361 Resale of multiday or multievent ticket.--Whoever offers for sale, sells, or transfers in connection with a commercial transaction, with or without consideration, any nontransferable ticket or other nontransferable medium designed for admission to more than one amusement location or other facility offering entertainment to the general public, or for admission for more than 1 day thereto, after said ticket or other medium has been used at least once for admission, is guilty of a misdemeanor of the second degree, punishable as provided in s. 775.082 or s. 775.083. A nontransferable ticket or other nontransferable medium is one on which is clearly printed the phrase: "Nontransferable; must be used by the same person on all days" or words of similar import. Upon conviction for a second or subsequent violation of this subsection, such person is guilty of a misdemeanor of the first degree, punishable as provided in s. 775.082 or s. 775.083.

The above says "offers for sale, sells or transfers in connection with a commercial transaction". I suspect that doesn't include grandma giving her extra day to her grandson to use for personal use. It's intent seems focused on wholesalers/ticket brokers, etc. who are in business to make a profit.

Well, and what about this, this could almost be the same situation as the OP. The first time I went it was me, my sister, parents, grandparents, aunt, uncle and two cousins. My dad held all the tickets for the entire party. When we went home everyone had a couple days left on their ticket, but we didn't put our names on them because it shouldn't be a big deal. Say I go back this year with one of my left over tickets and it turns out that it was my aunts from the year before and our fingers aren't the same. What are they going to do? Throw me out? I seriously doubt it. If they are serious about doing this then they need to put your photo on your ticket and not rely on an electronic finger scanner. Technology can get it wrong and I seriously doubt that WDW would deny me entrance based on something that trivial. If they would then WDW is not upholding the guest relations that I expect from them.

The finger scanner never worked for me on our entire trip- I would try a few times and once I had to show my licence- the other times they took the pass and ran it through the thing- and let me through.

My question: DD got an AP for Christmas and activated it in Dec. Since then she's grown A LOT. When we go in June will her finger scan be the same?

Also, in Dec when we went I bought all the tickets 3 adult / 1 child (which her aut upgraded to AP for her). All the tickets had my name on them. I went into the park with whatever ticket I did and held them all as I was the FP go-getter. At the end of the day myself and my DDs aunt went for upgrades. They both got APs (since DD spends time in the summer down there) and I got a 10 day non expire. I have NO idea which ticket they upgraded, was it my sisters, mine or best friends? When I scan in June will it buzz me or let me in? I'm really not concerned, I have my receipts with me just in case, but its the overall concept.

Tickets have your name on them now.

I doubt that Disney would take it away. You could always say you took the wrong ticket by mistake.

A growing child? Don't worry about it.
If you do have any problems, just pop over to Guest Relations at the front gate explain the situation and/or request a replacement ticket. It can create new scan info for her "new size" the first time she uses it.

For the other tickets: Hope you bring ALL the tickets. Guest Relations can scan them and tell you which is which. (The receipts are a very GOOD IDEA.)

Remember that there are literally MILLIONS of guests every year.
Most use a ticket many times... that's millions & millions of ticket-scans...
Any ticket problem YOU have, will NOT be the first time for Disney.

I have to chime in and I probably will hear it from the DIS police...
I would tell the whole story, but it is long, so here is the bottom line.
Don't sign your pass. That way, if you ever give it to someone else, and the biometrics don't match the CM will tell them to sign it and insert their fingers. The biometrics have now been reset to that person. Sorry that my moral compass is facing south on this issue - flame away.

Depends on the ticket that you get. Two years ago when I went my entire party had room keys with MY name on them since I booked the room, and since the room key doubled as the park ticket... I now get in with a purple pass that gets me and four others in, and again, they all have my name on them. If I wanted to I could just grab four people, give them the tickets and walk off into the sunset.

Point being, if the ticket is older and simply hasn't expired they can't deny you entrance based on a biometric scanner. Technology doesn't always work and they don't need any bad PR. And plus, like many have said they aren't always even using the scanners. The CM's seem to know they are about as reliable as snow in Texas.

Anyway, as I said before, if they really want to enforce this then they need to go with photo tickets for multiday passes not names or biometrics.

For the OP, I don't see this as any different than buying baseball tickets and giving them to someone else because you wind up not getting to go. The ticket was payed for and shouldn't have to go to waste just because someone cut their trip short or decided on a hotel day. Some people make a huge deal of this for varying reasons, but I say its a personal descision and you should do what you want to do and not worry about the opinions of everyone else.

My feelings precisely! There's a big difference between giving your ticket to granny or scalping them at the gate. :sunny:

Not any more. All tickets now have the guests name on them. Even a 1 day ticket will have your name printed on it. While in the past room keys were printed with only one name on all of the keys they are now printed with each individual guests name on it. In other words all tickets now have your name printed on it and are connected to the biometric system.

Our tickets didn't have our names printed on them All they said was Adult 10+ and Child 3-9. My guess is that only tickets purchased upon check-in at a Disney Resort will have names on them.

Exactly.

And to the person that posted the FL law: I guess you could argue using one day of a multi-day pass and giving it away to someone else for the remaining days is a big difference then going into the park in the morning and giving your ticket away so he/she can get into the park that afternoon.

Not if you buy them from a source other than Disney.

While you are correct that it is not against the law to give remaining days to someone else, it is against Disney's rules. And Disney has every right (like it or not) to have such a policy. They give you substantial discounts to encourage longer stays. If tickets costs an equal amount per day it would be no problem but that is not the case. Two 5 day tickets cost far less than 1 10 day ticket.

Please take this as just my opinion:

I do not begrudge Disney trying to enforce this policy at all. I think what is sometimes missed is that Disney is, as a good business practice, selling multiday tickets to each seperate individual at a discount over single day tickets since that individual is committing to visiting on multiple days. Maybe transferring or selling tickets would be a different story if we were paying the single day ticket price for each day. To me, the "volume discount" for multiple days is for the individual person the ticket was originally purchased for.

Thanks for listening.
:scratchin Intersting point. I agree.

Mine were bought from Disney - just not at Check-in and they did not have our names on them :)

Of course the downside is if you lose your ticket or if it is stolen, you're just plain SOL. They won't ever be able to tell who's it is. All someone would have to do is say Oops. didn't work, here's my Id. I guess i better sign it. And they're in.
