finger scan

The only thing that bothers me about the finger scan is thinking of how many people have touched it and imagining all the germs shared on those little finger pads! I just carry anti-bacterial wipes try not to think about it too much. ;)

Neither of us had to do the finger scan at any of the 3 parks we went to in April/May. We went early in the a.m. each time and the CMs said there were too many people to hassle with the scans.

Maybe the paranoid types should just go in with the hordes. :)

The finger scan does not bother me, but I draw the line at the anal probe. I think they might have already implanted some sort of homing device in me, though...;)

;) They put the homing device in me too..and when I can't be in WDW it sends me to the Disboards!

A question about the finger scan: when the scan and ticket don't match, do CMs ask the guest for ID?

Lap bars.

Seat belts.

Hand rails.

Push buttons.

Door handles.

We were there last week, and they were NOT scanning. I will be there again today, and will ask about it.

Not sure if they are changing their policy, or what, but whether it was crowded or not in the entry lines, they were passing everyone through without the scan.

It doesn't bother me. They need some anti-sharing/theft mechnism. I like the scanner way better than the two finger measuring thing. That only worked for me every other time. In ten years my AP has failed to work only twice such that I had to go over to the window. Each time the CM was extremely helpful and pleasant. It's a machine -- it won't work 100% of the time. Considering how many people are going through the gates every day, it does a fairly good job.

That feeling of annoyance instead of anticipation of joy when waiting for the others to find their ticket, find their kids, find the fingerscan, recognize that their stroller will not fit through until the CM swings open the gate -- that really hasn't changed in a very long time. The more familiar you are with what should be happening in an efficient entry -- the less competent other guests seem. How you choose to handle those extra 3-4 minutes is up to you.

You are kidding right? Think about everything you touch every day, door handles, grocery carts, cans at the grocery store, money, and all the other stuff you will touch at WDW as someone else posted. :scared1: You can't worry about one finger on one little spot. I am not a germophobe at all and I am rarely sick either. Maybe that is why. I do use hand sanitizer after the restroom at WDW just because of so many germs but I don't let it worry me at all.

It's not something that rates an argument.

They now use the finger-scan for checking park re-entry instead of the hand-stamp.

Technically, I'd say the _ticket_ is used for checking park re-entry instead of the hand stamp.

The finger scan ties the person to the ticket...

That's said, I don't know where NYDisneyKid is coming from. The finger scan is used. It may not always be used. It may not always work. But it IS used.

They always used the ticket.

But not JUST the ticket-

If person "A" goes into MK at 11AM and leaves at 2PM...

THEN: (before everyone scanned fingers)

They USED to need a Hand-Stamp if they wanted to return later in that same day.

So...

Person "A" had to bring along his ticket AND show the CM at the gate the glowing Hand Stamp in order to get back into the park.

NOW: (since everyone now scans fingers)

Person "A" goes into MK at 11AM with a ticket and scans his finger.
Now, Person "A" has to bring along his ticket AND scan his finger again at the gate in order to get back into the park.

WHY....

Because what if Person "A" exits the park and hands his ticket over to Person "B" to use the rest of the day?

The ticket, alone, has never been sufficient for checking re-entry.

(Loopholes and shoddy enforcement notwithstanding, of course.)

...

Yes, I was thinking on it from a different angle, but that could be based on faulty memory of the pre-MYW days. I thought the ticket only recorded an admission that day, and the handstamp said which park...

The tickets were scanned and the park recorded in the computer, like now.

The stamp on the guest's hand indicated that HE was the one who exited the park that day (the stamp shapes were changed every day.)

-----------------------------------

MUCH earlier, before electronic ticket scanners, the actual ticket was ink-stamped with the date and park when the guest entered.

AND, when the guest exited (if they intended to return) they got a florescent
hand stamp at the exit gate.

not arguing,,,stating a fact...just this past weekend (friends of mine)and myself. they had 1 day tickets,,,we all entered,,,left about 3pm returned about 5pm,,,NO scan required for them.

Is there any legal reason that a retired ax-murderer or other "creep" should not be allowed to enjoy WDW?

Ummmm...yes there is a legal reason. Registered sex offenders must stay a certain distance away from children. Impossible at Disney. Whether they get caught is another story, I'm sure there are more than we would care to know about in each park, every day. Watch your children closely...

As for ax murderers, you're on your own. They don't have a restriction after they've been paroled ;)

Yes, it was a bit of a joke. Didn't translate so well on a message board. ;) I work in a public library and am constantly touching books, public computer keyboards (which are super dirty and gross), library cards, bathroom keys, etc that have been handled by dozens of people and I'm not running off to sanitize my hands after each transaction.

My point was that I'm not concerned about Disney keeping tabs on me and *maybe* taking my fingerprints. Re-reading my post, I admit I should have explained myself better-- I didn't intend for it to be taken so seriously. :)

This issue has come up before. I find it interesting that many of the people who find it "intrusive" are the same ones who partake in Twitter and face book and the other things out there that people use to share every tiny detail of there life.

:cheer2::cheer2::cheer2:
Agreed. I'm an opposite - I don't use Facebook or Twitter (much to the chagrin of my friends) because I don't want my personal life story out there, but I think it's totally logical that Disney attaches an algorithm to me to keep me from ticket sharing. I think the chip in the new passports is WAY more intrusive...like pp have said, there are many other probably worse things out there to be paranoid about.
I assume that means he abhors the burdensome constraints of the Dewey Decimal System.
:lmao:Well I thought you were funny...don't know why the thread went off the logic high board after that...

Maybe it's a "New Yorker" thing - LOL.. DD's FIL (New Yorker - upstate) has flat out refused to fly since the TSA put the new rules in place following 9/11.. He has nothing to hide - he's just stubborn like that - considers it a violation of his rights.. So now his poor wife doesn't get to travel anywhere unless they drive for days and days and days..

I have no issue with the finger scan - OR - the TSA rules.. I just want to get to where I'm going as fast as I can..;)
It's been my experience that the people who are convinced that everyone is watching them are some of the most boring people you'd ever want to meet. :lmao:

We have a fingerprint reader at the hospital and I'm glad they do it that way..keeps people who divert narcotics from trying to take drugs out under my name.
