Ross Perot was wrong about that "great big sucking sound"; it's really the pull DVC has on people from NJ.
My wife and I had been debating joining DVC ever since we spent a week in Vero last February. We originally chose VB to spend Presidents' week at(for you non-Easterners that's a whole week off in many school districts) because her dad recently retired there, and we needed somewhere warm to escape the ice and snow. Once there we had such a terrific time that we began to think about buying into DVC; a good way to both warm up the winter blahs in future years, and spend more time with her dad (who's in his mid-seventies).
We discussed it for over a month, looking at all the pros and cons; believe me we were very concerned about VB's financial viability (although after a little research we became convinced that Disney's commitment to the property is firm over the period of time we're most concerned about), and the belief that its appeal is greatest to the very young (our kids are 8/6/1, but with luck they'll grow older). In the end we convinced (at least to our own satisfaction) that the benefits far outweighed the risks. And during this whole process the postings on this board were very helpful: thank you, one and all.
The upshot: we signed our contracts yesterday and entrusted them to the good folks at Fedex, and have already booked a return engagement at VB! We're all very excited, and can't wait to go back.
