No idea if anybody is interested or will read, or even if its ok for just anybody to do a trip report...but here goes.

We are just about ready for our first ever trip to Disney anywhere! Our kids are DS 11 DS 10 and DD 6. We are staying at the Grand Californian Sept 19-28th 2013 and celebrating our 20th Wedding Anniversary!!

Flying in from Edmonton Alberta...which BTW has just been issued a FROST warning :/.....Hard to believe that the temperature has dropped 20 degrees in 24 hours!

It's been a very exciting build up to suddenly....ohmygosh theres so much to do!! But its all coming to an end...the pre trip stress. I can NOT wait to get there and enter that magic bubble! I cant wait to see the kids faces and delight! They might pee their pants ;)

Our first day/evening will be spent at the hotel...pool and exploring. Dinner at rainforest Cafe and Ridemakers. Walking DTD, grab a drink and bed! We start in the parks bright and early Friday morning.

At this point its almost a laughable holy crap we are getting up in the morning to board a plane to DISNEY! ok..get over it right? lol

First ever Disney trip Sept 19-28 2013 8O

That sounds so fun! I hope you guys have a great family vacation and can't wait to hear about it when you return!

Will someone PLEASE tell DD to go to sleep already!! And what's up with DH? He's not packed or showered yet. Oy!

And they say women take forever to get ready ;)

AWESOME!!! Can't wait to read your trip report, my and my family took our first Disney trip ever to the land at Christmas last year and as soon as we got back I was looking into to how we could make another trip!!! Have an awesome time!!

Excited kids today as we all got up and got ready to go! We got to the airport and everything was going great....until Border Security. For some unexplainable reason, my DH got detained. Not going to bore with many details, but DH was charged at 18 with theft under accessory. Back in 1984. We have crossed the border many times but for some reason, he gets flagged and we all get hauled off to 'the room'. An hour later, he is told he must get a US waiver, not to cross without one but this trip was granted permission to be with his family. sigh it was a stressful process and not all that much fun for any of us.

Really, it put a huge downer on the whole 'we're going to Disneyland!' We made it to board the plane during general boarding call. No chance for kids to watch planes come and go and that whole experience. BUT we are ever grateful DH was allowed to go. Pixie dust?

Even Westjet was kind of odd. The crew members usually have a great sense of humour and make the flights fun with lame jokes and such. But they didn't even engage any of the kids on the plane about DL. weird. So D and I are still reeling from airport and now a flight that feels like he is still flagged. We are trying to recover from this and get that bouncy magic happening again for kids. ..oh! here's some advice..dont watch drama movies that have sad moments when you are already feeling very low. Not so good to cry on a plane full of people lol

We land at at LAX, the kids thought the flight was awesome! (first timers) ppfft lol

LAX is big. Really BIG. And dirty :p ewww bathroom run was quick. We finally made our way to baggage claim and found our shuttle. The drive to the DLR wasnt bad actually. Not too long and interesting sights. Oh and smog! No one warned us about the smog lol

We check in at DGH and of course the room isnt ready. Its only about 1pm. We expected that. They check our bags and give us a pool card. Yaay! We dig out the swimsuits and off we head to the pool. Awesome :) Ordered a Mai Tai...I was ready ;) The staff came out and set up music and games for the kid poolside, it was quite fun and entertaining. Hmmm...I think I have time to order a fun blue drink now....

Vons delivery came as scheduled and the front desk called us to receive it. They stored it all with our luggage. A couple hours later, our room is ready! We have a 3rd floor balcony room facing the woods. Its partial woods even haha, we are tucked in the corner with a roof below us. To the right, about 2 on the clock, we see something but not sure what. A carousel maybe? We have yet to figure it out. One thing about the balcony, there is no outside light, so its a little dark out there right now. The rooms ARE very small. We have bunkbed with queen bed. Add 5 bodies and 5 suitcases and backpacks etc..yup! It's tight. The bathroom is quite small as well. Barely enough room to get dressed in there.

We take the walk to DTD (that was far :D ) and eat supper at Rainforest Cafe. the kids LOVED it there. The food is ok. Not bad, just not much kick or flavour to it. Needs a little something. yes kids eat there, but...you know.

After supper we head to Ridemakers. The boys (including DH) had been itching to do this. And of course DD cant be left out. :p But I, being MOM, kept hers to a bare minimum. $76 later she has a r/c pink decal car. The boys? OY! In total, $500 on 4 cars. Dont ask me...sigh Oh well. Moooooving on! :D

The boys were taking a long time to do their cars. I asked DD (she's 6) if she wanted to find dessert or go shopping. She replies with FASHION SHOPPING! Thats my girl! So with her $20, she bought a few trinkets, kept the change ;), took her bag and I then told her to throw away the receipt. No evidence is my motto lol oh right! she says. I have taught her well! :D

Back to the hotel, we change into jammies, including yours truly. We grab some snacks and head to the outdoor fire place area for a movie. They are playing Princess and the Frog. We find mats, blankets, sleeping bags, pillows all laid out. Very cozy. The kids snuggle in for the movie.

I went to check out the little store on site and the lady starts asking me questions and suddenly I've got buttons galore! First timers, Ilm celebrating and Anniversary. Our main purpose of this trip is to celebrate our 20th Wedding Anniversary. (Upcoming dinner at Napa Rose CC) I found Heathstone lounge with the bar...hmmmm haha

Its 10 pm local time and the kids are beat. We have an early start to our day tomorrow and its time to call it a night. The emotional toll from this morning has really taken its toll on us but we have tried our best to shake it off. Tomorrow is a fresh brand new day..in DL! :D

First ever Disney trip Sept 19-28 2013 8O

Today started at 5:30 local time! Yikes and whoops! DH forgot to turn off his 'get up for work alarms'. sigh. haha Well, run with it! :D we are all up and its time to find coffee and get ready for early entry into CA. This will be the first of the stand around and wait long moments. We are 2nd in line, but somehow we don't end up feeling we took proper advantage or careful planning. This ok, we know how to do better for our next 4 days in the parks. I hope ;)

We obtain the FP for WOC. The CM there said to skip RSR and get FP for it at 9. Told us to head to California Screaming. So ok, we do that. Except DD too short to ride. DH and the 2 DS head on ( I was sad) and I took my daughter to Mickeys Ferris wheel...buuuut that wasnt up and running yet. lol yes ok, it was UP...CM's were just busy doing stuff with it. So we ended up at the Toy Story. Well didnt we have a blast!! DD and I squealed with delight and just experienced that true exhilaration of fun! When it was over, she wanted to go again. We met up with the boys and all went on. It was hilarious :D

We had reservations for Ariels Grotto at 9:20, so it was pretty rushed getting in line for FP to RSR, getting our lanyards and pins ( should have done that in DTD the day before) and I had to boot it all the way around to the main entrance to grab our PP+ card before the Charactor dining. Finally, we are ready to go for breakfast.

This was quite enchanting. My DD was in such awe shyness, stars in her eyes and would bubble over with excitement once the Princesses left the table. She brought her autograph book and an instant film camera. This was the best item ever to purchase! She would get her small instant photo and put them in her book next to their autographs. Then sat there adorning each page with the stickers that came with the book. She is quite the scrapbooker to be ;)

Breakfast was excellent! They introduced a new menu we are told. The kids had waffles, DH the standard eggs bacon, but I had the applewood smoked bbq tri tips. AKA steak and eggs. Oh my gosh! SO yummy! Best thing we ate all day!

I should mention that we purchased the 4 day Disney Dining Meal Plan. There's lots of yay's and nay's on this, but I have to say, its REALLY nice to have them. You don't feel SO burdened everyday with OMG it was HOW much?? Seriously, 3 kids mac and cheese, 2 soups and 2 fries, 5 pops were $67. This was at Orleans Cafe where we had supper. But I digress.

After breakfast its time to use the RSR FP's. THANK GOD FOR THE FP! The line up is looooong lol . Single rider is best if you don't mind taking a chance of being split up...but then, you could race against each other too ;) This ride was such a blast!! We will have to make our game plan to do it again. And again. We can certainly see why this is SO popular.

We walked more through CA, DD did a couple rides in Bugs Land then we headed over to ToT. Ok, I have to say. DH doesn't like heights and DS 10 doesn't do scary well. But we all went on it anyway. This is probably one of the best rides! :D It was SO much fun, the adrenaline pumping from the ride and the 'scary' stuff. We were in the back row, which was probably good for a first time. DS 10 kept his head in my shoulder most of the time. Thats ok. He was a good sport. One of the times the doors opened, I was cheering and had let go of the handles. Then the DROP! whoopsies! My butt came flying up off the seat! I went to grab the handle and got my DS arm who had a death grip going on. I laughed but hadn't meant to. I told him later it was just because mom forgot to hold on. Silly mom ;)

Once the ride was over, DD wanted to go back on again!! We had FP's but had to kill another 20 mins. So we headed to Monsters Inc. We rode fascinating ride with all the doors...it was pretty incredible what they have set up, very much like you are in the movie set. All the doors everywhere and CDA agents...Randall. VERY well done. Just.....not much to do but sit in the taxi as it slowly makes its way around. Roz at the end was hilarious with her interaction. :D

As we exited there, I spotted Princess Sophia across the street! We hightailed it over to meet her. DD was just so in awe. She got her book signed and I got her picture with her instant camera. Well, Princess Sophia 'looked shocked' lol Don't ask me how with her head and all. But she made gestures to the camera and pointed to the photo popping out and did the thumbs up and clapping. Too funny :D

Around the corner at Monsters U, we see Sully. After standing in line for 10 minutes, he leaves. He'll be back in 45 minutes. :p Sure. Back to ToT to use FP. DS 10 was in no way getting that elevator again lol So, being the mom, I stayed behind and the rest went up. Its ok, I shopped in the gift store, got a pin with moving doors on it and a tshirt. Sorry DH :D

At this point, we decide to head to DL park. We did the walk over, and discovered a busy world! Right at the entrance we see Minnie, Mickey and Pluto! We pulled a bad ettiqutte. They only had 10 mins left before leaving (go figure lol) so DS 11 stood in line for Mickey, DH stood in line for Minnie, and the rest of us stood in line for Pluto. Pluto was faster and we got pictures with him, then Mickey and finally Minnie.

As we are walking towards the castle, I realize that once DD see's it, she wont be wanting to stop for a rest and snack, so we stopped at Carnation Cafe. we decided that since it was getting late and just a couple hours before dinner reservations, we would just have a cold drink and dessert! a rare treat for sure! 3 mini s'mores in a jar, a lemon meringue in a jar and strawberry tart. it was all very yummy! Again, not cheap, and the dining vouchers help make it 'feel' better right?

As we leave the patio we notice the ropes going up. Ok remember we are new here! Oh its for the parade! yaay! So, we find a spot to sit...had we known,, we probably would have just stayed at our table!! What can ya do.

We find a spot to sit finally. Its pretty crowded. And the wait was pretty long. 45 minutes I think. The kids didnt really enjoy this part and looked all sad and bored. In DL! ppfft
Once the parade finally started, they said it was worth it! It was pretty cool, yet somehow I imagined it being....more? Or different maybe. Times have changed I guess.

We finally make it across the street to the castle. In here I took LOTS of pictures for my DD scrapbooker in training. And now its time for supper with reservations that were made. This is kind of like...wow. Too bad we have to eat now. Its kind of getting in the way! So off we go to find Orleans Cafe. The food was ok. Just ok for what we had. We need to find someplace better to have delicious tasting food :) I'm talking yummy flavors! CM tells us about Fantasmic after Fireworks and that not many show up for late show. Game plan made...find the monorail in Tomorowland and head to DTD back to hotel for a break. A quick swim, change and back out to monorail for Fireworks. Well. It was SO very crowded. We find spots to stand by some Turkey leg cart. And we wait. And waited...a LONG time. :( Once the fireworks started, again, the kids were so excited, loved them and said it was worth it! Incredible show of course! Then we get herded along, slowly, tripping and shoving and ooooh my gosh. EVERYBODY was headed to see Fantasmic! So much for CM saying late show not crowded! So again, standing room only with people shoving up against you, behind, beside...nudging you around ever so slightly causing you to feel invaded and you move right? Next thing you know, you're standing with a dang light post and pillar directly in front of you! hmmm.
The bigger problem is the standing and waiting...again. The kids have had it. Another half hour before the show starts, but once again...it was worth it they say! Another incredible show! Now for the shuffle back to the monorail and hotel. We are done...for today.

I have been trying to see what the day looked like from the kids point of view. It doesn't really feel like we accomplished much. certainly not in rides. Yet, the day seems to have gotten pretty dang full and long. I think maybe with the parade, fireworks and F! out of the way...checked off if you will, we will have more time for rides. With any luck. We have yet to see WOC but thats ok. Just one more stand and wait for a show type if thing right?

I certainly hope to see a lot more consistent happy carefree enjoyment from my kids after today. I believe we will. Once we start doing ride after ride...that will make it all better. I think our lesson to be learned...have a game plan. Find out whats going and when (theres an app for that :) and either plan to avoid or plan to attend. And bring some of the many snacks we ordered from Vons. Sheesh mom! :)

But for now, its 1 am and we have a shuttle to catch at 8:30 to Sea World! THAT will be a long day as well. They will have ipods for the bus and I am thinking there will be more steady stuff going on, not so much standing for a good spot for an hour before a show. Buuuuut I could be wrong. At least they will have a seat on the bus :D Regardless, we have a BIG surprise planned for them tomorrow. Its just GOTTA be cool! :)

First ever Disney trip Sept 19-28 2013 8O

What a great day!! Up and out for 8 am to get the shuttle to Sea World. We arrived there just in time to see the Dolphin show. We sat in the Soak eats and got pretty drenched, but not as bad the folks sitting in the center rows ;) The show was fabulous of course. I probably shouldn't have Youtube'd so much stuff, as I felt like I had already been there to see it lol Beautiful show. We walked right over to see the Sea Lion show which was hilarious as expected ;)

We took the kids to kiddie land to play for a bit while I went in search of lockers for our backpacks. Ugh, that was not smooth is all I can say! But I highly recommend the lockers near the main entrance for $15 for the day with in and out privileges. And if you can bring exact cash...even better. The CC function malfunctions quite often I am told. It was a bit of a hassle but was soon figured out. The lockers are quite large cubes with enough room for 3 backpacks. That is an awesome feature.

Over to Journey Of Atlantis. The line up was maybe 10 minutes long. This was a wicked ride :) A little wet yes, but I didn't REALLY see the need to buy the blue rain ponchos they so cleverly have on hand everywhere to sell you. Theres also 'dryers' you can use. But its $5 lol

A little walking around to feed the sea lions, pet stingrays, check out the turtles and it was time for lunch. The best part of the day! We had reservations for Dine with Shamu! We surprised the kids with this and it was just something else I tell you. Worth every penny. The food is good with good selection for kids and adults. The whale interaction and show just cant be beat for entertainment and education. The kids and DH were all highly engaged. It was fantastic to see. I highly recommend it.

Interesting tidbit. If you see a guy with an Eagle on his arm standing around...thank him! That eagle is there to keep the seagulls away! Before the eagle came, the seagulls were swarming the tables for food as the guests dined. I gotta tell you...not one seagull came to dine with us ;)

DD was too short to ride the Manta coaster, so the boy all went and I took her back to kiddie land for a couple rides, where she also got a photo op with Cookie Monster and Elmo!! Very cool :)

Shuttle returned at 6pm, all perfect timing and we were ready. I was happy to see the hotel 2 hours later...it was a long yet wonderful day.

Back in the room, and DD is hyper as certain characters in Toy Story! DS lost his tooth! He placed it in a bag under his pillow this morning and it was missing when we returned back. We searched the room but couldn't find it. We went down to the desk, jammies and all, to ask the desk. CM called housekeeping and they say they wouldn't have touched it. He shrugged his shoulders and said sorry. My poor DS trying so hard not to cry. What an anticlimactic end to loosing a tooth! I will have to figure something out tomorrow for him.

We overheard about the 6th floor viewing area for WOC and managed to catch it! WOW we will def check that out tomorrow night! SO beautiful! DD wanted a stuffy and somehow her, DS 10, and I ended up in DTD in our jammies. *headsmack* Whoops :D This kind of how we roll I guess lol. I figured, why not. 10 pm and the place was hopping with people! SO funny to see kids walking literally with eyes slowly closing. World of Disney store was jammed packed!! Very lively and fun atmosphere DD picks out her stuffy and BACK to our room we go! This time, she is showing signs of being worn out. Hooray!

Tomorrow, EMH at CA...going to grab that FP for WOC and USE it this time, AND head to RSR and Mickeys wheel. Breakfast at Goofys kitchen then spend the day in DL, hopefully starting in Tomorrowland! We have somewhat of a game plan. Hope it works out :))

First ever Disney trip Sept 19-28 2013 8O

Today was day 2 for us in the park. I *think* we did good today! We started with early entry at CA. We right away headed to RSR this time. Still a great ride...and we lost our race again :D Wanting to optimize our hour, we headed for PP and Mickeys Ferris wheel. We chose the inside car of course! DS11 really wasnt enjoying it, the feeling we might tip over. We tried to put it into prospective and suggested it wasnt much different from the classic Pirate Ship. This kind of worked. He relaxed a bit, not a tense. Next ride will be the non swinging car. Mainly to truly enjoy the view and tranquility :) We hit the Silly Swings...twice. Goofy's Sky School....3 times! and DD went on the Jumping Jellyfish. We started to head over to Goofys Kitchen for breakfast but got side tracked by the Little Mermaid. Thats a good distraction! So worth it :) DD was in awe and the family quite enjoyed it. Walking back through to GCH and out to DTD, to DLH for breakfast.

The buffet here is quite good! I told the kids to fill up on ice cream, worms and dirt and candy after they ate. The wasted NO time in doing just that! We kind of got our first bit pixie dust. They brought over a very yummy chocolate cupcake with Happy Anniversary chocolate ears and a candle! Very sweet of them! DD got out her instant camera and got her picture with Goofy (of course, right? lol) Dale, and Aladdin. Handsome Prince he is :) For the next hour, we seen a few characters, but none were coming to our section. A certain blue bear and monkey, Chip, Pluto and Jasmine. We had to beg them to fine Jasmine and send her over, they finally did, but we didnt get a chance to see the rest. A bit of a surprise and kind of...wondered why? In the end, DD was quite enchanted with Jasmine and added her photo to the autograph book with care before we left :)

Making a determined effort to follow our game plan, we headed out on the monorail for DL Tomorowland. First ride was Autopia. My DD11 is a bad driver! lol Oh man I was jerked side to side and bumped forward and back... I had to fail his road test lol But back on again they all went. Not this mama. I sat this one out to 'recover'. Crowds were starting to build up so our waiting time for rides were increasing. Trying not to get discouraged, we forged ahead. We made good use of FP system...we are learning! We managed to ride Space Mountain...very cool! And Star Tours...that will be one to do again!!

haha we went on Astro Blasters, and pestered my DS as I kept spinning our little car around and he was missing some of the targets. MOOOMMM! lol I'm a brat.
In a coupe hours, we felt we conquered Tomorrowland! Onward to Fantasyland!

This was an excellent area. The lines were shorter and we were pretty much able to get on and off rides, one after the other. Peter Pan was a pleasant surprise for DH and I quite enjoyed being in my own boat to just enjoy and take it all in.

We stopped for supper at the 'German" Haus. I forget the name. It wasnt very good. I didnt eat much of my burger and kind of regretting not grabbing something later...I'm starving! DD and DS10 didnt eat their burgers either. Disappointing. We will stick to sit down service. But the drinks were refreshing and the sit down was much appreciated and needed. Our final ride left was the Mad Tea Party. Ok, I just have to say...I finally rode the teacups! All my life I have heard about these magical famous tea cups. That no Disney trip would be completed without it. I can finally say...I rode the tea cups :)) This was a moment for me. As I was spinning with my daughter, there was such an incredible....release. I dont know how to describe it. I just know that the funk we had been working hard at shaking off, there was simply none anymore. As we were spinning, I caught my DH standing at the rail watching us with a huge smile on his face. It was so relaxed and looked like it was a moment he would recall for years to come. Warm happy memory. From there, all the negative just spun away!

With Fantasyland accomplished, we were feeling great with our success and headed to Adventure Land! Now, I know we are supposed to try a Dole Whip...but the line ups are very long lol. But we will try again. As luck would have it, the Tiki Room show was starting in 5 minute, and it was recommended to check it out. OMG...that was simply fabulous! We are so happy to have seen that! Its a def 'dont miss this' attraction.

We had a height issue for IJ... DD one inch too short! We wanted to try again with her runners on, but perhaps its best to just leave it. DH can take DS on perhaps. Jungle cruise was quite funny and the treehouse cool to see. Aside from IJ, we completed Adventures and headed over to HM. Whoa! Line up WAY too long for that. Over an hour and it was getting late for the kids to manage that. We decided to head back to hotel and call it a night. haha but we got distracted yet again! By Pirates!! The wait was only 10 mins, and wow...that just left us in awe as well. Seriously.

I think we had accomplished lots today. It felt good. Not over or under whelming. We have 3 days left on our hoppers and feel much better about trying to get it all in. HM, Splash Mountain?, Wilderness attraction and possibly IJ. I think those are on the must do list. I will need to review the Magic Guide to make the next day game plan :)

Tomorrow we are off to Universal Studios! To be honest, I am not sure exactly how we will fill a whole day there. DS10 doesnt like things scary. And it might be pushing it for DD as well. Aside from characters on the street, I'm a little worried we will end up wandering the whole day looking lost. If anyone has helpful advice, I'll take it! :)

Til tomorrow...I say good night :)

First ever Disney trip Sept 19-28 2013 8O

Today was pretty cool! We started it off by walking the red carpet! Universal Studios was busy for a Monday with tons of tour buses there. Ours included of course ;) Almost immediately we met Character after character! We honestly didnt know which way to turn or greet first lol A few highlights: Frankenstein. He was SO good with the kids in his approach. He didnt speak of course, but he was gentle while in his posture. Out comes a Minion! Dracula was fun, very charming...look out! Beetlejuice Beetlejuice Beetlejuice! He held out his hand said Come here! And pulled me into a big hug. :D Curious George...now theres a cuddly guy! He was SO much fun!! He was rooting through my backpack 'helping' us look for a pen for DD autograph book! He danced around the kids and played hide and seek behind pillars. Very cute!!And oh...that Scooby Doo!!! He was the best! He played so much with us, photobombed, teasing my DD...soooo much fun!

We finally head to lower level of US to do the Transformers ride. This was actually pretty good with a bit of bumping and jarring going on. Lots of turns, dives, flying...it was lots of fun. The kids were able to meet and great some of the transformers!! Incredible and realistic as US should :D We rode Jurrasic Forest and got soaked! A fun ride but I advised DS to keep his head down at the door prior to the final drop. It was a good call. He was just starting to freak out with the extended time in the darkness with all the sirens and scary music. Seconds later it was over....whew! He says ;) Needless to say we didn't go a second time around. We also ran into an egyptian princess...almost literally! She was on the mechanical stilts and pretty much walked into her coming out of the washrooms lol She was beautiful!

Back to the upper level, we had more charactor meet and greets like the Simpsons and Daphne from Scooby Doo. Curious George was still running around playing :)
We went on the Simpsons ride which is similar to Transformers and Star Tours. Again, just leaves you in awe at the artistry and computer stuff.
We stopped for lunch at Fred Flintstones...who could resist the smell of all them ribs cooking outside on the huge grill??? Very yummy and perfectly cooked! Kudos to the chef!

Our last ride before leaving was Shrek 4D. Its unfortunate we ended the day with this ride. Honestly, the story is cute and again, the graphics just way up there. But the ride itself? Row seats like a big theatre. The seats move and bit and shake a little, yup. The seat in front of you squirts water in your face a few times, the little air holes behind your neck enhance the effects of wind, flying, and spiders dropping on you (that part freaked out my DS11 ALOT). Overall, it kind of fell flat for a ride.

We felt pretty lucky we were able to be there today :)

Back to the hotel for swim and the kids went to the courtyard to play with their ridemakers. Finally, they are winding down and in bed.

Tomorrow, we have reservations for Charactor breakfast. Napa Rose for supper (Anniversary dinner). We had intended to be in the parks tomorrow with a free day Wednesday, maybe rent a car and head to the beach and Hollywood again. But DH wants a day at the hotel. He wants to rest from the walking and figures the kids are ready to do the same. I see his point. I'm kind of bummed I will miss the beach, even though I know we cant do everything. Its impossible. California will have to planned as a separate trip some day. I only hope DS11 understands.

So. Tomorrow is now our free-ish day. Breakfast and dinner plans only. I think there might be a book in my suitcase and a pool lounger in the perfect mix of sun and shade waiting for me.....

First ever Disney trip Sept 19-28 2013 8O

Today we started off with Surf's Up! Breakfast. Oh this was so much fun! So far its the best for entertainment and characters! We met Daisy, Mini, Goofy, Stitch. Pluto and Mickey. The kids danced we got our PP+ pictures and ate an excellent buffet with an omelette station. After breakfast, we took a taxi to a local mall and did some shopping. Oh my, there's a Justice and they have a bunch of summer stuff on sale! I have to admit, I told my DD to shop! And she did! lol I pulled out the CC to pay of rit and when the cashier gave me the receipt, DD says NO! We dont want no evidence for daddy! lmao!!! Aaaah yes. My work is done ;)

On the way back to the hotel, we stopped at CVS and grabbed some more stuff then finally, we hit the pool for a few hours. Such a nice day.

DH and I had a date at Napa Rose CC tonight while the kids were at Pinnochios workshop. I have to say, CC was one of the best experiences in terms of culinary adventures. We discussed with the Sous Chef my allergies and told them to bring on whatever he wanted. We added the wine pairing as well. Mickey was our waiter and sommelier. He was fantastic and spot on to our likes. DH and I each had different things to eat and different wines. The only exception being the dessert ice wine. The staff are quite willing to interact and explain how things are done. They are fun to joke around with and tease. If there was ONE drop of wine spilt when pouring, they cleaned t so fast you didn't even realize what happened.

We highly recommend this experience! In total, with a pre dinner cocktail, wine pairing and the chefs menus our bill was about $310. It was fantastic!

We walked and had an after dinner drink before getting the kids. They were great! A nice break from us I'm sure.

A quick walk of DTD and up to bed.

Tomorrow is day 3 in the parks. We will start with RSR of course then head over to DL and hopefully HM. DH and I decided that its very ok to come back to hotel for a rest about 1pm or so to do the pool hang. And go back about 5 for rides and supper. We dont want to over exhaust the kids anymore. We'd like to not be so uptight about the rides just relax. It is what it is :)

Enjoying your trip report. looking forward to more.

:D I was beginning to think I was just talking to myself lol Thats ok, its fun to blog and keep an account of our trip to look back on later. :)

Today was Day 3 in the parks. No reservations for meals today, so we planned to just wing it. EMH and of course, RSR is first on the list. We WON! Wheeee! Our first time winning lol Our 2 DS went on about 3 times via Single rider before we got to the end of the line and rode as a family. We actually had a family slip past us in the line! I couldn't believe it. They were behind us, we got distracted by DS's coming up to us and next we know...this family cut in front. PPfft...ok. If it makes that much difference for you...some people lol

After RSR we kind of all decided we have done it enough. Its time to put it to rest. We headed over to Flo's V8 Cafe for breakfast. The service was friendly and not busy at all. No complaints about the food really. Just your average breakfast at a cafe. :)

We headed over to PP to ride Californian Screamer. DD is of course too short still but she caught her eye on Duffy and Donald Duck and wanted to meet them. Wish granted! :) DH and DS's rode the coaster and we met the characters. We also found Jessie and Buzz Lightyear! :D

The crowds were still light when we lined up for Mickeys Fun Wheel, this time choosing a non swinging gondola. I love Ferris wheels. Its SO peaceful up there. The views are beautiful, add a breeze and sunshine....one cant help but feel on top of the world. Love it.

The kids did a little zip lining in Wilderness camp and got a picture taken with some bear lol At this point, we knew we wanted to head to DL but wanted to stop for a relaxing break at the pool. Just trying to enjoy everything our holiday can offer.

A couple hours later we hopped the monorail to DL Tomorrowland. Luck was on our side today! It was just 20 mins until Jedi Training and I happened to have shoved their signs they made into the backpack. :) DS10 made some sort of sign that started off as the Jedi symbol (I think?) DS11 made his sign saying "My real name is Anakin Luke and this is my father ----> " This is actually true. Long story short, his birth name prior to adoption was exactly that. DD made her sign saying 'I've got girl power!" They put alot of work, colour and glitter into them and were quite proud of their signs. If I EVER figure out how to upload photos on this mobile app, I could post a picture :D

And WOW! What a show that was! I mean it was spectacular! All 3 kids were chosen too!! DD got a little too shy and opted out, but DS's were THRILLED and enjoyed every single moment! They will remember this moment forever I am sure. As a mom, I cant help but feel so lucky to enable these type of life's gifts to my kids.

Now I was bound and DETERMINED we were going to HM and just suck it up and do the wait in line. Turns out it was only a 15 minute wait!! DS10 was already spooked, thinking it was going to be like ToT with the floor opening up and swallowing him. sigh. My dearest DS, there are crowds of people standing..not sitting securely, but standing. And holding babies and children. Trust me, the floor wont start moving to toss us suddenly about. ;)

We LOVED HM! I hope to do it again on Friday during MHP, but I KNOW the kine up will be crazy. But I feel happy to be able to check it off my DL bucket list! Splash mountain next, again, was only 20 mins wait. DH and I had soooo much fun sitting behind the kids. Telling them to brace them selves, here we go! 5o foot drop! AAAHHHH!! DS11 turns to look at us in a panic...and that first drop was 5 feet at best lol MOOOOMM! :D I have to say though, its NOISY in there!! All them characters are cute, fascinating, and talented, but it would drive a person insane staying inside there any length of time lol The kids wanted to do it again, but the sun seemed to be disappearing and we didnt want to get too wet and get chilled. But heres the best part. While we waited in line to scan the PP+, one of my DD's teacher assistants was right behind us in SM! And a couple kids from the school!! They were with a group called Dreams Take Flight. Its an excellent organization that do day trips with kids who have OTHER issues (by that I mean no terminally ill). They take just the child, not the family. It was pretty exciting to meet up with them :)

We tried to meet Winnie the Pooh across the path, but apparently, he's off to find honey until tomorrow now. We did do one beehive ride though. It was cute. DD of course loved it. We walked over to Rancho Nacho something or other. This was ok, I like my mexican food, but the kids...ehhhh. We were feeling a little limited. The kids are tired of the mac and cheese options and the adult menus at BB or Cafe Orleans etc just dont appeal to them either. A few restaurants along the way have been closed. I think tomorrow, we will head to DTD to ESPN for dinner.

The clouds rolled in and the winds picked up. It was looking pretty grey out there, so we decided with just one hour left in the park anyway, we'd head back to hotel and caught the monorail. Perfect timing to unload that backpack (ugh pant) and get jammies on for the movie.Tonight they showed Who Framed Roger Rabbit.

Yep. For real. A few parents and their kids left partway through. That movie is just so OUT THERE! Sexual references, violence, reference to being a drunk and drinking...ugh. I never liked that movie. Thankfully, DD fell asleep very soon after snuggling down in the sleeping bag upfront. DH and a few other adults enjoyed it. Throughout the movie, the CM's kept apologizing. She was slightly stunned and uncomfortable with the movie showing for kids. She said this is what she was told to play, After the movie, the CM's wasted no time asking all of us parents for feedback. Sounds like it will be taken off their list. A lot of these kids are between 4-10 yrs. Just not the right movie to play, even if Mickey Mouse IS in it. Its nice to know we don't have to lodge a complaint though. CM's will take care of the feedback I am certain.

Another day done. 2 more day in the park then homeward bound we go. To the darn cold! My friend said she had to scrape her windows this morning!! NOOOOOOOO sigh

Tomorrow, we hope to find Winnie the Pooh (probably covered in that yummy sticky honey right?) and all his woods friends for meet and pics. Then we head to Toontown!! We have yet to visit this area. I think its the only area left to do! We will do the same as today and come back for pool time. I'm thinking we should finish our day in GCA and Grizzly Run finally. I'm liking the casual pace after our one hard day. This is much better, more relaxed and enjoyable. Its very ok not to spend every moment in the parks. :)

Day 4 in the parks was a nice one again. We started with EMH at DL. It was pretty crowded on the street prior to rope drop. It seemed as tho the vast majority headed to Fantasyland and Peter Pan. We headed to IASW and got on right away. Let me just say that while the ride was really quite interesting, the music would drive me batty if I had to work there all day. But it was a must do ride and no regrets :)

We were pretty lucky with rides this morning, little to no line ups. We rode the tea cup again and Alice in Wonderland. I kind of made an executive decision and dragged the family to Plaza Inn. We didnt much care for HOW the buffet worked, but the omelette station was great. And the characters!! By far this was one of the best mornings! We met Tigger, Winnie The Pooh, Chip, Dale, Eeyore, Minnie, Captain Hook and The Fairy Godmother! She had a talk with a certain DD about Princess behaviour. DD wanted her to turn her into a real Princess. Turns out, DD is not ready ;) lol Tigger, Chip and Eeyore were hilarious! Tigger kept photo bombing us lol We took pics with our instant film camera and kept trying to get them to develop faster and ran around showing them to everyone lol It was so much fun!! We spent quite a bit of of time there, just too funny :D I felt very carefree and I know these memories will last us a lifetime. Just wow.

Finally, we head over to Toontown for the first time! We grabbed FP for Roger Rabbit and stood in line to meet Minnie and go through her house. Mickeys house is of course closed til tomorrow in preparation for MHP. Goofy was doing photos as well, but the line was pretty long. We tabled that til tomorrow. We rode the Go Coaster..cute fun :)
Back over to RR, thankful we have the FP as the wait was 35 minutes now yikes!

As planned, we headed back to the hotel for a couple hours and kicked back at the pool. The kids are great, they totally love the pool so they are happy for the break to swim. We hopped the monorail to Tomorrow land and explored Innovations. This is an interesting building and frankly, I'm glad we didn't do this sooner. My DS10 is SO into video games, he'd be grumpy about wanting to go back in there everyday :p

Strolling through the area, deciding what to kill time on before the 7pm parade, Ds10 suddenly says the Finding Nemo submarine ride is on his DL bucket list. lol sheesh, wait much longer and you'd miss out bud! Theres no way I was getting on that. I'm pretty good for rides, but having everyone crowded in a stuffed can was not my idea of fun. But being a smart mama, I said you guys go ahead...I'm going to the accessible viewing area! haha! This was actually a neat alternative and I'm happy to be able to share the experience somewhat with the family. Thanks to the DISBoards, I was able to do exactly that.

Parade time! Same parade we saw a week ago, except evening time. All pretty when lit up :) Kids are getting chilled (boy, just wait til we get home in 2 days...THEN they will be chilled!!) Back on the monorail to DTD and ESPN for late supper. This is probably one of our better meals out for food and price. Just what we were looking for! Wings, beer, fries, burgers....and a little air hockey :D Life is good! Even better when you and DD can go shopping without boys! Yup...we hit the Disney Store lol DD bought a birthday Minnie Mouse stuffy for her friend back home, I grabbed a couple of Jedi Training shirts for the boys, and a nice comfy warm hoody for me...sadly, I will be needing it all too soon :( Yes, I will whine about the cold...blech!

So I am told DL will be all decked out tomorrow for MHP. Special fireworks and a parade of sorts. It will be a late night and we leave Saturday morning. We have reservations for Storytellers Cafe for breakfast. So I'm kind of thinking, EMH is into DCA. Do we go? What do we do. haha Ideally, I'd like to do breakfast, THEN enter into DCA to do the grizzly rapids. And honestly, just come BACK to hotel, do flight checkin (boo), pre pack (booo) and hit the pools til about 1. DD has BBB appointment in the afternoon and we can be dressed in our costumes. Rested and ready for MHP.

We shall see how this all goes. Til tomorrow......

Lovin how your updating while your actually there!!!.....What is the camera your DD?? That makes instant pics is it like the old Polaroid cameras or the pics are small pics and is it actually a kids camera? I am thinking about getting my DD some sort of camera for her birthday and that sounds interesting.

Its a polaroid instant film camera...the new ones at at local electronics store, Staples for us. She absolutely loves using it! :)

Today marks Day 5 in the parks, and in California. Sadly, we depart tomorrow morning. We completely missed EMH today lol The kids were sleeping, so I just let them. I snuck downstairs for coffee and sunshine instead. When they finally did get moving, we started to pre-pack then headed for our last character breakfast at Storytellers. This alot of fun with Chip N Dale, forest ranger, Meeko, some bear dude and the big bad wolf. Lots of playing around, photobombing, hokey pokey etc. We lingered a bit getting pictures and hugs to DD. I have to say, the Character breakfasts have been the best way to start our magical days in the park. No regrets :)

We headed to DCA and Grizzly Rapids. DH had been wanting to do this. Oh what a great ride :D The excitement and turns and anticipation of who was going to drop backwards and get the most wet was hilarious! DD squealed with delight..she's such an adventure addict lol Before the ride was even done, she was wanting to go again! We grabbed some FP's for it and went to check out Soaring. I have read reviews on this and its either a love it or hate it ride from what I gather. One guy near by say it was lame-o. So we weren't sure what to expect. Holy crud! WHAT A RIDE! We REALLY enjoyed this and were grateful we didnt miss out after all! Highly recommend.

Back to GR we went and happened to find a Hidden Mickey in the rocks!! Yaay! lol Since we were wet anyway, we decided to slip back to the Grand for some pool fun and drinks ;) We knew this would be our last time :( Ahhh, it was just SO nice. The kids playing, carefree, happy relaxed. Me with my Mai Tai. I wanted the moment to last forever. Unfortunately, reality slipped in and it was time to do web check in and confirm the shuttle. Good thing I did! Supershuttle had us as being picked up at the Clarion! Umm..NOPE...we wont be there ;) All fixed...I hope.

But now its time. We get ready to head over to Fantasyland for DD BBB appt. She has been waiting all week for this! Wait! Not so fast! Only one train running for the monorail. sigh. We will be late if we dont get on the next train. Finally we are in Tomorrowland and tried to boot it over to BBB. Buuuut wait! The parade has started. ugh!! Cant get through...we go this way and that way and.....dang. We are 20 mins late and they are not impressed. Now we have to wait for an opening. I sent DH and DS's to go ride for an hour and check back in. We have dinner reservations over in DCA in 90 mins. I already know this will not happen now. I planned that way on purpose to do stuff there as crowds filled up in DL then go over for the party. But alas....not to be. At first I was disappointed. I pride myself on planning well and with great care and thought. pppfft. eh well. Enjoy the BB experience with DD and figure out supper after.

WHAT an experience it was! I purchased the Castle package. DD wanted Princess Sophia, but they did not have her dress. She went with Merida. I added the shoes, bow and arrow and silver Mickey Mouse earrings. I know. She is well spoiled. She chose the hairstyle with the red curly extension piece. Poor DD, her hair being pulled up so tightly to top of her head, I kind of felt bad for her. But she's a trooper. Didnt make a peep. They did her nails and make up, the whole Princes treatment. Photos in the carriage and forest...wow. Breathtaking. And there was more! Of course? 3 Princesses in the Castle to meet and have photos with!! Princess Mini, Cinderella and MULAN! DD was such in awe! She felt very special. I personally will always remember this day. Again, te experience alone was worth it.

We found supper at Jolly Holiday, it wasn't bad. It was close and wasn't too crowded yet when we sat down to eat. Roast beef or turkey sandwiches, Mac and Cheese again lol Tried a Matterhorn Macaroon. Pretty yummy!!!!

NOW it is time for adults to get dressed for MHP! There are sooooo many spectacular costumes, it reminds me how lame we are haha DD exception of course as she has just been made over at BBB.

DS11 is Harry Potter. Among many others ;) DS10 a Bakugon dude, DH Jughead from the Archies, and yours truly a lame Glow Fairy. I had a backet with a bunch of glo bracelets and wands which we handed out to as many kids as we could :)

Trick or Treat trails...wow so many of them!! And BIG ones lol I think we only did 2 trails...Tomorrowland and Fantasyland. That was WAY overboard on candy and I kept wondering...where is getting packed? lol Its kind of too bad we didn't do the whole park. But it felt impossible to even MOVE around. We made our way to centre to watch Costume Cavalcade but we couldn't see a thing. Impossible. Will have to try and find a Youtube video. Fireworks were delayed but we didnt dare move from our seated spot we found. An hour prior to the show. It was just nuts. The fireworks were very cool though.. We had a largely obstructed view due to a big tree where most of the rockets were being set off. Soon after they ended, we made our way back through DL to DTD, bags full of candy, some sadness at leaving, and headed back to the Disney Store one last time.

Time to finish packing. Setting aside clothes for the morning and saving a spot for jammies and morning stuff to go in. These suitcases are STUFFED! lol oh my...DD's the zipper started splitting! :D Ok, NO ONE TOUCH HER SUITCASE! DD has already crashed, so I make sure I have her 'comfy' clothes out for the morning. Time for bed. But first, a glass of wine on the balcony, sitting quietly with DH. Reflecting. Sad to leave the heat and sun. Agreeing that we need to travel more as a family. It CAN be done. And we should. We will. DH has stuff to do before another US trip, but all inclusive resort in Mexico? Sounds lovely :)

Morning comes too fast. Since we are already packed, and I have woken a little too early, I slip downstairs for triple shot coffee. And sit outside in the courtyard for a while. Just enjoying. Its EMH and tons are headed to the park. Eventually, its time to go. I do the check out and settle the bill.. $56 pool charges. Its time to get ready to meet the shuttle.

Airport check in is smooth. No issues, no delays. Kids enjoyed watching the planes land and take off. Our flight headed over the beaches and ocean. I'm sad. We enter Alberta a few hours later and its grey skies. Overcast rainy cold...and migraine first thing this morning hits me. I had none while away. I never do when I head to Vegas either.

Overall reflections to share?.....

Overall, we had a great time. My kids are special needs and all have their quirks. DS10 was the worst. He was very moody and grumpy. He'd prefer to lay in bed with his ipod or play with his new ridemakers. He DID enjoy the rides, but complained waiting in lines, standing in the sun, standing in the shade, standing....lol He really enjoyed the rides themselves..except ToT, and the pool of course. For the most part, he travelled ok, but I worry about future travels. I dont think I would take him back to DL. It might be the crowds. He tends to shut down as he becomes overwhelmed. This is why we chose to go when we did.

DS11 loved every minute of our trip! He's a great traveller and will go with the flow on anything! He will such great memories and I'm really happy for that! :)

DD was a bit odd. She LOVED all the magic and Princesses, meeting all the characters, using her instant camera, getting autographs and she is such a thrill seeker! But she clung to her dad most of the time. Thats a bit odd. But she travels well and had the most magical time of her life! I cant wait to travel with them again!

DH was able to check DL off his bucket list as well. He quite enjoyed himself, but oh his leg and feet are still punishing him lol. Never again will he complain about the walking in Vegas ;) He is not a thrill seeker as such, but he is pretty happy he went all out and did any ride he came across. He admits he closed his eyes a couple moments during Soaring. lol

The hotel. Well, I think for our family, this hotel worked. Being so close to the parks, made it quite easy and enjoyable to go back and forth for swim and play. The room is looking a bit rough, with bathroom door not opening all the way, the bathroom itself quite small...the length and width of a bathtub. Add the toilet, and you have the space of half a bathtub to change in.

I really like the safety feature of the bunkbed and how the top rails lock with a key that housekeeping has. The only snafu there was when DD hung her bathing suit on the post. When we returned, it was locked in lol No biggie, housekeeping was close by.

There were 2 telephones in the room, but the one on the desk didnt work despite it being plugged in. The wires on the phone cord were all exposed and flayed.

I found the hotel hallways to be quite dark with all the colour scheme and its very quiet :) There was no special treatment, or anyone going the extra mile for comfort or pixie dust. Not expecting exactly, everyone in DL is celebrating something :) But still..a little special something would have gone a long way for the magic bubble we were looking for.

Overall, its certainly not a standard $500 a night room, but they get you with the convenience of being in the parks. No regrets staying there. No regrets on anything for our holiday! :)

So a couple observations, which have no fault to DLR.

1. I Youtubed and researched A LOT of stuff. SO MUCH that when we were there, certain things felt like I had been there already. Examples: Fantasmic! lol I had already 'seen' the show. The fireworks with Tinkerbell, I found my self telling the family, Watch this! lol ok my bad. The Little Mermaid ride..again I knew what we were going to see.
And Sea World. The dolphin and whale shows. oooh my bad. Ok, my advice...dont watch that stuff before you go :D

2. I grew up in Toronto Canada area. I practically lived at Canada's Wonderland. Especially the summers, where I hopped the GO train everyday and became a Wonderland Rat. My parents didnt even know I was there lol So...while DL is grander in many ways on the scale, some of the rides are the same or very similar. So while the kids were in awe of the rides and all the thrills, for me, it was....not as big of a deal. Dont get me wrong, I had the time of my life, loved the carefree feeling and back to childhood fun!

I am not sure we would do DL the same way again. I'm already planing a return trip to California/Hollywood. There is SO much to see and DO! It will probably be with just the 2 kids plus my one that didnt come to DL and Grandma. Until DH has his papers done, he will stay home with DS10.

I miss it all already :(
