Finally I did it! Christmas in March

I installed a 50amp receptacle at my house this weekend!


Now the wife can have AC running Memorial Day weekend when she is loading up!


I don't know how to post pictures...

I spent about 50 dollars at Home Depot for the supplies (plus $100 at camping world for the darn extension cord!)

My wife was giving me a hard time this weekend because every time we walked outside I would stare at the box with joy.

It only took about 30 mins or so to do and I can't believe I waiting this long to do it.

We have one, and it is SUPER convenient, particularly when I have to pack the camper on a sweltering hot summer day.

While 50A is nice at the house, 30A would be enough to run a single AC and a vacuum. But hey, if you have the means, install the 50. And yes those cords hurt and at the race track I frequent as an official I need 3 to reach the power posts the way they camping area is laid out. But any day away from work is better then a day at home.

Job cost (from memory)

$28 50 amp panel
$12 "whip" flex conduit with Green Black Red 8 GUage
$3 6' white 8 guage wire
$10 ge 50amp breaker


I opened a "wholesale" account at the local CW and purchased a 15' 50amp cord for 72.00


total project cost around 125 with extension cord. The Flex conduit worked well and was easy as the whole project took less than hour. I used three wood lags to fasten the box to the house. It feels solid and should stay tight.
