what I should add to it first. It is old, '89 but in good shape. I replaced the back seat last week, and am buying tires this week.
Some things I am thinking about
Cow seat covers - I have to replace seats and they don't match
Some lights like a lighted license plate holder
back speakers, there is a hook up but none there
a speaker bar for the roll bar
Running boards or a step at the door
A bigger bumper thingie
Chrome accesories, like door hinges
Xenon gas head lights, they have that brighter whitish blue look

Alot of this stuff is available used on ebay, but I have to start cheap. For 15 yrs I have been driving a mini van so this is like a toy to me.

DS says start with the headlights. He is the car fanatic in my house!!

Go with the "bumper thingy" and some KC HIlites.
Get the side bumpers to match.

A good place to look for Jeep accessories is

http://www.quadratec.com

I have owned Jeeps for 20 years and can help with some  if needed.

The bumper and the lights were going to be my first choice.

Fireplug- The only problem I have is that my 4wd light is on all of the time. It definitely isn't in 4wd and seems to run fine when I put it into 4wd. I will hit the beach this weekend for a longer run to be sure.
I have had a couple of cherokees over the years. I just gave my 89 Cherokee to my college dd. This is my first Wrangler though. It is an '89 4cyl(not my first choice) 5spd. It has 102,000 miles on it. My mechanic gave it a good bill of health. No fluid leaks, clutch seems good runs quiet (for a jeep).

Our cherokee has a few problems though. We have changed the starter twice and it still does not always start. It just click, clicks. DH cleaned the contactors, checked the wires and is stumped. Mechanic looked at it and said new starter. We have done that twice, and had the starter tested. This is not the problem. It also idles a bit rough even after tune up, new wires, etc. It also doesn't like to start on rainy days. This weekend dh is going to check oxy sensor, pcv valve, and possibly the distributor (he changed the cap). It just passed the finnicky nj inspection. If he was driving it he wouldn't worry but our 18yo dd is the primary driver. We need to find a new garage because our mechanic just says well it has 180,000 miles on it. I feel good with our dd driving it though since it is so heavy and has the extra bumpers and stuff on it.
I do love my Wrangler though. It is great after the Chrysler mini-van.

PS have you ever changed out the front seats. Every older wrangler I looked at had the same problem with their seats. I read an on-line article that recommended Mustang seats as a very near match that are much better made. I am thinking of doing this. Right now I can't adjust my seat at all.
Whew........I bet you didn't mean this much help. Sorry.

A good place for stuff is www.endangeredspeciesjeep.com
A friend of ours runs the business,he's a good guy.My DH has had Jeeps for years(I have a Cherokee,he's got a Scrambler and a couple of Willy's)and helps put on one of the Jeep Jamboree's.Any questions I can help you with, feel free to ask :D

My DH is addicted to his 95 wrangler
He says he will never drive anything but a jeep
He put running boards on those really are a must
makes it easier getting in and out especially if you are short or have kids

He also has gotten a center console for cup holder & a locked place to store stuff, scooby doo mats, a smiley face with stubble spare tire cover, replacement hooky things for the hood his were starting to rust, a shelf thingy for the back to make a trunk when back is locked so is stuff under the shelf. Oh how could I forget the special lights in the front underneath the bumper no idea what they are called.

We get every jeep magazine known to man but I think he gets most of his stuff off of ebay because he has found that to be cheaper

Okay lets try these one at a time shall we.

First I am not a mechanic so I may not have all the answers but I will try my best.

Actually your first purchase should be a chiltons manual for wranglers that will help a bunch there are some others out there. Go to an auto parts store and check out what they have. Also buy a couple of 4x4 magazine they have tons of ads in them so you can compare products and prices

4x4 light is on a sensor I believe and should not be that hard to adjust or replace

The seats in my CJ were not too bad. I bought a replacement cover set and did that. The link/catalog I gave you has tons of seat options in it

now the cherokee I may not have a lot of help for you

The click could be a bad electronic ignition check it too

Let me know how it turns out

Steve

Oh as I read your post to him
he said the 4wd drive light may just be a sensor
Also he recommends washing the jeep under carriage & wheel hubs after taking it on the beach
apparently sand is bad for these things
he also recommends www.quadratech.com

good luch

I've been to quadratec.com and have been pricing some things there. Checked out endangeredspecies too. It's always good to be able to find used parts. Luv2Nascar, a new center console is on the list as is some type of lock box or trunk. Right now I only have a soft top with half doors so the vehicle is not exactly secure. I am trying to decide between an alarm or a club type of device.
I have wanted to get a Wrangler for awhile so I already had been pricing things to decide whether to buy one all done up or a basic jeep and add things to it myself. Now I have to keep dh away from it as he is stuck with my mini van til it sells. He also is a big nascar fan by the way.

As to the cherokee. It is always a fussy car. The motor is sound but it always has weird quirks. I don't know if dh checked the electronic ignition. I will ask him. This thing has him stumped. He lives off his Chiltons for the Cherokee. There is also a cd available that covers alot of jeeps as well as our Chrysler mini van. I saw it in a mag and have been trying to find it for him. DH was leaning toward just a problem with the light or sensor on the 4wd light. If he was sure it wasn't broken he was just going to unscrew the bulb, unless he could find another problem.
I think this will be a hobby equal in cost to dh's boat. LOL
Thanks again guys.
