I know about Viggle but I know there were more listed at some point. I also found out about the Old Navy snap appy app.

...if so, I don't possibly see how you are going to "save money" with your new iPhone...

Download Shopkick!

Very simple app to use, you get 'kicks' (points) for walking into many major retailers and also just for opening surprise bubbles within the app.

You redeem kicks for instant gift cards to Target, Best Buy, Macy's and many other stores.

I've been using the app for around 9 months now and have redeemed for over $120 in gift cards! :)

Another app is Wikets. You get points for recommending items or somebody re-recommending your item or buying online through the app (when you buy or when someone buys your recommendation). I have not bought through the app but get 50 points per day max for recs. A point is .01. It earns slower than viggle but is very easy. I just redeemed for my first $25 gift card a couple of days ago. Here is the thread about it http://disboards.com/showthread.php?t=2941981&highlight=wikets.

the Geoqpons app has saved me money. it gives coupon codes & special offers for lots of stores like A&F, Aeropostle, Loft, etc.

I have used my phone many times to google discounts. Last year we wee in San Diego. I Googled coupons for Sea World. Found out SubWay had $20 off coupons. Went to SubWay. Saved $40 for the 2 of us. I also downloaded Money Mailer. We were out to dinner. Remembered they had a coupon in Money Mailer. Saved 15% on our $180 bill. I always check on line for coupons if I am shopping. Got a free drink at Hot Dog on a Stick. Etc. I have also used my phone as a GPS many, many times. I love my IPhone.

Gas Buddy

Gives you prices and locations of gas stations
Great when you are out of town

I use a lot of different apps and services... Viggle is my favorite. Shopkick, already mentioned, is great. I also have App Trailers, CheckPoints, and Wikets. FreeMyApps, which is a mobile site and not an app, is good primarily for iTunes credit (IMO). Swagbucks just added a mobile site. Target text messages me coupons all the time too, that's not iPhone specific though.

As far as non-earning apps, I use MPG to track my gas mileage and car maintenance, RedLaser and ShopSavvy to compare prices, and PageOnce to view and manage all my accounts.

The fieldagent app. Secret shopping. I have made about $200.00 so far.

Ooh, thanks for the heads up on this one! Hadn't heard of it before but signed up and there's quite a few shops in my area. :)

I've discovered lots of thrift stores by just using google maps when I'm out and about and I also love "Garage Sale Rover" which maps out garage sales in the area that you are in.

Just having easy access to the internet when I'm out and about is great for price comparisons.

If you have an American Express card, check out the Foursquare app. You check-in when you go places, search for places to go (ie., pizza). Recently I got two different credits for $5 each. One by loading the offer on my card, and the other just by spending over $10 at a little market I go to anyway. Also Endorse just relaunched, don't know if you need an invite, but I made hundreds over a 3 month period before they had to stop and figure out how to do it more efficiently. I also love Gas Buddy, Target text coupons. Always keep your eye out, new stuff out there all the time.

Could have saved a ton by not getting one.

Actually, it is entirely possible to get an iPhone at a reasonable rate. I pay less than a $100 a month for mine, with data and everything.

I think the misconception is that those prepaid phones and plans are a good deal across the board. The phones are usually bare bones. Maybe good for old people and kids. I think they take advantage of the fact that some people can't get a contract because of bad credit.

My iPhone is very useful.

These are the apps that DH has on his iphone:

field agent
werewards
check points
shopkicks
Old Navy snap app
viggle

He's made over $600 so far this year between werewards and field agent alone.

Some people I guess do find them useful, but I am not one of them. I refuse to pay more for a phone than I do cable. I do have a nice tablet though that I can use with wi-fi.

Gigwalk is another one like Field Agent. Make money by doing small jobs (taking pics, etc.)

See, I don't see $100/month as cheap--we pay $190 for 5 phones for our family with US Cellular--this includes limited data. Now that being said, I know we are getting a great deal...we tried to add a 6th phone & it would have jumped to $300. 2 phone plan would have been under $100.

BUT iPhones rock...so now my folks will be using 2 of our US Cell lines. DH & I each bought a used AT&T iPhone4 from cowboom.com (division of Best Buy that sells used electronics--30 day return policy)--for less than I was seeing them sell for on ebay (from questionable sellers). Then we each bought a Straight Talk SIM card for $15. We now have unlimited talk, text & data for $45/month. (they tie into AT&T service somehow) I tried mine for a couple weeks before fully committing, but have been pretty happy. And I have heard that if you go over 2GB of data, there can be issues (so, yes, not truly unlimited)--but I have guaged our usage & it shouldn't be a problem for us.

The only problem I have encountered so far was in Vegas & I occasionally didn't get good service inside some casinos--never a problem w/ US Cell. But friends w/ Verizon & AT & T had issues w/ this on past trips, so I figured it was the status quo.

My phone is a full android smartphone on prepaid. Does everything the iPhone/Android contract phone does if I chose to have data. I choose to not pay for data so it only costs me $5/month. In a wifi area though, it still does everything the iPhone does.

So, no, it is not possible to get an iPhone at a reasonable rate. $100/month for 1 phone is not reasonable at all in my opinion. Add 2 or 3 more people when you are a family and it gets quite expensive.
