Finally found a place that still had flu shots

I have been looking for a place that still had flu shots in stock and finally found one. It's mid October and I wouldn't have thought that finding one would have been so hard, Nov-Dec yes, but not in October.

I had a flu shot from Walgreen's about 4 weeks ago. My doctor still doesn't have them:confused3
Glad you were able to find one.

I also took my kids today expecting to be able to get them at one of the many basic drop-in clinics all over town. Turned out that none of them had them, or any that did were only for adults over 18.

We finally had to go downtown to the "Diabetes Fair" that was going on today in order to get them! :confused3 :rotfl: Well, we got a lot of cool free samples (bandaids, cough drops, throat lozenges, kleenex, thermometers) even when we insisted no thanks and that we were just there for the flu shots!

Our local places are just starting to run low on regular flu shots. We've always gotten our flu shots as soon as they are available.

We still haven't been able to get the H1N1 shots (or find out when they'll be available).... H1N1 nasal mist is just starting to be available but the kids and I all need the shot due to respiratory issues.

My kids were all playing soccer and didn't want to take a chance on getting sick (I know, the shots don't cause it, but THEY don't believe me) during the season. I remember in the past getting shots as late as December, so I really didn't think mid October would be a problem.

As far as the H1N1 shots, the kids all came home with permission slips this week to get the shots through the schools a week from Monday. May want to check with your school district to see if/when they will be offering them. I know around here, no one else can get them yet other than health care professionals, but they'll be coming to the schools next. Incidentally, our schools are only offering the shots, not the mists.

DD got her seasonal flu shot and pneumonia vaccine yesterday..

Pediatrician's office is out of the seasonal flu shots already, so DGD has to wait..

No H1N1 shots available anywhere - and no one knows when they will arrive.. I have a sinking feeling it's going to be long after they are needed the most..:(

My feeling is that getting the regular flu shot is better than not getting one at all.

I have to say I didn't know about half these vaccinations before I joined the DIS.

I'm vaccinated against measles (already had that though), rubella, diphtheria, mumps (although never had a booster), meningitis C, whooping cough, tetanus and polio. The last time I had a vaccination was when I was in high school.

I've never had a flu vaccination. I didn't know you COULD be vaccinated against chicken pox (I don't understand that one) or pneumonia. :confused3

Somehow I made it to adulthood :thumbsup2

I don't normally get one, but with my wife being pregnant and us having a little girl, the doctor said that I should get one.

I didn't realize the seasonal flu shots were so scarce :guilty:. Thankfully thus far our drs office, local hospitals, health dept, drugs stores, some grocery stores, still have supply of flu shots. Luckily grands all got their flu mist or shot free in school, but sadly many students are already sick with flu or virus.

DH got his flu and pneumonia shots thru our out patient V.A. clinic and got mine at my GP's office. Dr said no word of when H1N1 is coming or even IF it is. I figure if we're meant to get one, they'll be available, otherwise we'll be vigilant using extra precaution.

Good luck to all our Dis family, remember, an ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure. :grouphug:

I got mine a few weeks ago, but my mom has been needing to get hers. She happened to be at Walmart today and they had a clinic but was told they only had 35 shots left. Thankfully she got one, but our local Targets have cancelled their clinics for Sat. Oct 24 since there are no shots.

That's why I got mine when I did. No line and got in and out within 10 min max.

Our doctors have been out of them also. Our local Walgreens happened to get like 50 of the vaccinations in and we were able to get them there. My hubby has medical issues so I was really worried about him getting one. Lucily it worked out.

My Dr stopped adding people to the wait list so imagine my surprise when my Dd called me to tell me that there was a flu shot clinic at the mall today but they were getting low. i was on my way there so I headed straight to the clinic an got my shot :thumbsup2

Good news. My pregnant wife found a location where she can go on Monday to get her preservative free flu shot so now all three of us will have gotten ours. She has to get a letter from her OB saying it's ok, but she already had a conversation with them on Friday about this.

I know we ran out of our state supply of seasonal flu vaccine for children within 10 days. We don't know when we'll get more though we requested it ASAP.

We still have H1N1 mists, we got 500 of those 2 weeks ago. We were told the shot wouldn't be shipped until the very end of Oct at the soonest but most likely not until Mid-late November.

I'll be very interested to see if some of the posters children who are supposed to get them at school either actually do in the next week or so and if they are in fact shots or mist.

Our schools won't be giving them here, and I cannot get ds's H1N1 vaccine until 10/28 because he got the seasonal flu mist and there is the waiting period between the two. So, I'll be playing the waiting game to see how many we have by the time he's eligible and if we've run out when we're getting the next shipment.

I'll let you know a week from tomorrow. Mine also got the seasonal flu mist, so wouldn't be eligible to get the H1N1 shot if that's what it ends up being. I made it very clear to them that they couldn't get it, and also wrote it on their permission slip. However, the slip we signed says shot only, has the info on in regarding "inactive antibodies" (or something similar) and says they need to wear short sleeves since the shot will be given in the upper arm. I won't be shocked though if late this week they get another email telling us they've been delayed or whatever!

I haven't found anywhere that has them yet... they're always gone!

DH got one free from work (federal employee) and an e-mail that H1N1 will be available to whoever wants them shortly.

Just updating the thread to let you all know that I was one of the people who was told their kids' schools would be giving them this coming monday. Coming as not a huge surprise  we received a voicemail and email this weekend telling us that the shots are being delayed. Said the possible date for the shots was November 4th, or later as they couldn't give a definite date at this point. What a surprise! :sad2:
