FINALLY COMPLETE! 10/3/2010- But Why is the Rum Gone? Disneyween 2007

So if you go in Feb, you can come to the Feb 13th Adventurers Club meet :p

Anytime you refer to 'Hoopla' and the Adv Club, I feel like I'm one of Pavlov's dogs trained to cheer with the reward of alcohol :woohoo:

HOOPLA ! (OK, so where the heck is my drink ???)

I am not aware you got a drink for just returning the "Hoopla"

They owe me about 24,250 drinks.

Great update, and I'm glad you made it here without your head imploding. Exploding. Blowing up in any manner. ;)

But. We need to talk. 'Bout football. I believe it's more than a coincidence that you were placed in the Football section. See, once you move down here, you must choose. A team. For which you will vocally, fashionably, and in all other ways show your support. Not sporty, eh? Sorry. Football is mandatory down heres. Might I suggest something in a reptilian theme? ;)

I'm sorry about all the job drama, but so happy to hear things look to be improving dramatically!

Day 1- October 27, 2007

Everybody was Kung Fu Fighting….

Have you ever woken up to the sound of a large group of martial artists practicing right outside your room? No? You must not have been staying at All Star Sports during the Martial Arts festival!

Apparently, the downside of staying in a room facing the giant football field is that people use it to do very loud things! There were teams outside practicing, and that seemed to involve yelling words to accompany each move. No sleep for me!

I snapped a pic of my window decorations- not very impressive!

On my way out to get breakfast, I noticed a group of Chinese men settling down at a table outside the main building. I wished my Chinese was better so I could eavesdrop and figure out what their spirited conversation was about, but since none of them seemed to be saying “Hello!” or “I understand English”, I was out of luck for understanding!

Down at the food court, I searched for breakfast, but nothing sounded good today. They were out of chocolate croissants! And almost everything offered was a big breakfast plate, and I just can’t eat that much in the morning. I ended up grabbing a Mickey-shaped Rice Krispy treat… that’s almost like having cereal, right? Right?

After devouring Mickey’s head, I went out to catch a bus to MGM. You may remember from my January report that despite being there 9 days, I somehow totally missed getting to MGM! So this trip, I wanted to go first thing, to avoid doing just that.

Truth be told, I’m not a huge MGM fan. I love Tower of Terror, the Muppet movie, Star Tours, wandering the Streets of America, and the Streetmosphere characters, but that’s it. Somehow the park as a whole doesn’t do it for me, which is really weird since I love movies, and the whole Hollywood theme. I’ve read some people’s reports where they say they just don’t like Animal Kingdom, no matter what they try, and I guess it’s like that for me with MGM. I try to like it, but we just never seem to click!

That said, you won’t be too surprised to find out that I was there less than two hours. I think I was still a little tired from traveling, a little hungry from a non-satisfying breakfast, and I still hadn’t dropped the bad attitude that had been hovering around my head at home lately. Poor MGM, someday you’ll get a fair chance with me, I promise!

But back to the time I WAS there! My first stop (after swinging through guest relations to grab a new AP) was Sid’s- a shop right inside the gates that sells movie memorabilia. It’s mostly autographed photos, but if you poke around a little, you can find some nifty stuff. I stopped outside to read the trivia board, and knew 8/10. The CM told me the answers to the other two, and offered to give me the certificate anyway, but I said that felt like cheating, so I passed. I want to earn my movie trivia, darnit!

In the back of his truck

Outside, I was nearly run over by the start of the High School Musical show (eeep!), and then did some browsing through the stores on my way towards the Star Tours area. I have to lament the old days of Disney shopping- I may be crazy, but it seems like the stores used to be much more specific than they are now. You would find treasures at certain stores that you wouldn’t find anywhere else in WDW. Now everything has been generalized, and the more unique things seem to have gone the way of the dinosaurs. Sadness!

The line for Star Tours was way longer than I cared to stand around, so instead I poked around in Tattooine Traders for a while.

The Jedi Training academy was going on- I like that they made this a year-round thing!

I love this shirt! Should have bought it.

I really want an Artoo Potatoo!

I managed not to buy *everything* at Tattooine Traders, but I did walk out with a new SW t-shirt. (It comes into play later today!)

Since the Star Tours line was still WAY long, I wandered over to the Muppets area:

I meant to get a photo of “the key under the mat”, but I’m always moving so quickly through the queue that I forget! Next time!

I did, however, get a video of Sam Eagle, for your enjoyment!

(shot on my camera phone, so it sucks, but still makes me laugh!)

I got a lot of weird looks for taking photos in the pre-show area, but those people can bite me! ;)

I wonder how many times THESE guys have seen the show?

And of course the theme continues to the shops after the show…

I had to take this pic for Katie. Everytime we’re in Norway at Epcot, I try to do the “You are not the first to pass this way…”, but my Norwegian accent always comes out sounding like the Swedish Chef. So now I just embrace it. “You are not the first to pass this way… bork bork bork!”

I'm about to hit my photo limit for the post, so more later!

Great update. Love the pictures. Not sure if i missed the post where you actually told us what job you might have in FL. I'm dying to know.

This is always our first stop at MGM...I've attempted the trivia board so many times, and I've only earned the certificate twice...and one of those times was Star Wars weekends, and the questions were ridiculously easy...but it's our tradition...

I love it!!!!

So are the rumors true? You'll be here in February?? That's super exciting!!!!

Can't wait to read more of your trip!

Of course a rice krispy treat is breakfast! It's got rice krispies in it!

I LOVE mgm. But I will forgive you for not loving it.

Hey, why are you still over here on the Pre-Trip board??? :confused3 I kept waiting to see you over on the TR board... now I have to go back and catch up... :surfweb:

You SO should have bought that Darth Tater shirt! It is so cute! I'm going to try to remember to get it for DH when we are there in January. So, I just wanted to say thanks for doing my shopping for me!

Your TRs are great! I really enjoy them.

I am beginning to think that I should only read finished TR because I get frustrated waiting for installments or reading through one and then realizing it isn't done. You have started a good pace, so keep it up! We are all eager for the Crystal saga!

You SO should have bought that Darth Tater shirt!

of course if you do go to work for Disney, you can buy the shirt then with your 20% off CM discount!

it was delightful to come in to work today and have a few crystal updates to read! i love the pics of Sid's- i don't think i've seen pictures of that before on the DIS. you always find such interesting details that few others pick up on.

Great update Crystal. Were the crowds heavy during your trip?
I was there Oct. 12th-21st and the crowds were heavy.

We left off at those crazy Muppets…

I probably should have posted this one at the beginning of the whole report, huh?

Oh, THAT’S where I left my bananna puree!

I wandered over to the Streets of America, where I noticed they’ve already started putting up the lights for the Osborne spectacle.

nyst.jpg

After wandering around a little, I realized I was still in a grumpy mood, and now that I was hungry and my feet hurt, my mood wasn’t improving. I figured that at this point, it was a better idea to head back to the resort to rest up until I felt more in the mood for Disneying!

Lesson learned: Sometimes it’s a better idea to just hang out at the resort for a while on your first day, especially if you’re exhausted from the trip and not feeling great. I can usually jump right into doing the parks, but this time, I was in serious need of some rest first!

The Sports bus was pulling away just as I got to the bus stop- d’oh! I mentally thew my arms up in an “I give up!” and settled down to sit on the ground, which was actually surprisingly refreshing. I don’t think I’ve mentioned the weather yet, but today can only be described as *steamy*. (Feel free to picture McSteamy stepping out of Addison’s shower here, Greys fans!) It wasn’t raining, but it was a little bit misty, and also HOT. Thus, steamy! I felt icky, and wanted a shower, food, and a nap!!!

While I was waiting for the bus, I was joined on my comfy stretch of concrete by a man who, after some chatting, I learned was the director of… something? Marketing? For something Disneyish. Whatever it was, not a bad person to befriend when you’re planning to come work for the Mouse!

Back at Sports, I nearly laughed out loud when I saw that the SAME group of Chinese men were STILL sitting at the same table! HOURS later!

I stopped for another pizza (this one was WAY undercooked- ICK! Raw dough is not appealing, people! Give it a few more minutes!) When I got back to my room, I noticed that my door hadn’t closed all the way when I left- eep! My room was unlocked all morning! Luckily, everything was still where I left it, but I was careful to make sure I pulled the door shut behind me after that!

Katie called to say that she and Sherice were planning to hit Epcot around 2:30, so we’ll get to that part of the story next!

(Sorry the updates have been so short this far- my time has been limited! I’ll get better soon, I promise!)

It’s Epcot Time!

After a shower and some rest (and some undercooked pizza- bleccchhh!), I met up with Katie and Sherice at Epcot. The rain had mostly just been threatening all day, but the second my bus drove under the Epcot entrance, it started POURING!!! I hid out under the bus stop awning until it slowed down, and then made my way over to the exit of Seas, where they were waiting.

Look, ma! No hand! (Or wand!!!)

1864907112_d8c80cd6d5.jpg

I loves it! This is the first time I’ve seen it sans wand, since my very first trip was in 2000!

My park entering photopass pic! (I haven’t received the CD yet, so you only get the ghetto versions for now!) (Notice the new Star Wars shirt…)

We set off to ride Figment (One little spark…), and then set off for the World Showcase! (Let’s get to the good stuff!)

We went left, which means Mexico first! We decided to do the refurbished version of the Mexico ride first. It was SO weird to have an actual line for this ride- I’m used to it being a walk-on! I still think it’s a cute ride, but I think I preferred the old version. I’m glad that my favorite dancing guy doll survived the refurb, though!

After the ride, we poked around in the market for a while…

1864903694_e9709cb0c8.jpg

(Somewhere, there is a picture of me and the pig- I think it may be on Sherice’s camera?)

Outside of Mexico, we made our first Food & Wine stop… for margaritas! (Okay, so the booth is always there.. And I didn’t even get one, but it still counts as a stop!)

Also: It was very rainy!

1863899435_4bafaaf133.jpg

I ended up sharing an umbrella with Sherice most of the time, and well… have you ever tried to share one with someone who is almost a foot shorter than you? Complicated! Next time, I’ll remember to bring my own!

Up next (margaritas in hand), Norway!

I think it’s an official trip report law that we take this picture of Katie every trip now:

1863879653_c7694f00da.jpg

I should dig up the old one for comparison! But right now I’m way too lazy.

There was an actual LINE to take pictures with the big troll (Did I mention how BUSY Epcot is during F&W?), so we amused ourselves while waiting:

On our way out, we noticed a smaller, less popular troll, and decided that he deserved love, too!!!

1864716750_4a656e9500.jpg

Apparently, Katie doesn’t kiss trolls on the first day.

We were in the market for something yummy, so we mostly passed by China (I can’t believe I never tried the plum wine cooler! I FAIL as a DIS-er! Next time!). My next photos aren’t until Germany! WOW!

1864717760_e09e2c5fd6.jpg

You would think we would be tired of taking the same photos in Germany every year by now. You would be wrong!

I’ve got a fever, and the only prescription is…

1863893637_69b37d7d26.jpg

MORE COWBELL! (I should have totally bought that hat, btw.)

1863894945_4c688914bf.jpg

Explore the space with the cowbell!

1863895993_619ab418f6.jpg

I am running out of cowbell jokes!

1864724606_2cf6bc7453.jpg

But not cowbell (and beer stein) pictures!

1864725812_05b918aa93.jpg

Let’s pause the trip report here with a symbolic photo- cuckoo!!!

Up soon- more Epcot, and our favorite Adventurers Cub night EVER! (Possibly written by Katie, because I am lazy.)

(Isn’t it good, Norwegian wood?)

Apparently, Katie doesn’t kiss trolls on the first day.

Ha. These made me laugh out loud.

As for the weather, had you been here a week later, it would have been chilly, at least for Florida standards....my born and raised Floridian husband wouldn't even step foot outside one morning it got down to 40...and to think he considered moving to St. Louis at one point...He wouldn't know what to do if he saw snow...

Looking foward to more....

I've never noticed that little troll there before.
Glad you gave him some lovin' too :)

Love all your updates! Can't wait moreeee!
