We just sailed our 5th cruise and are now Gold CC members! I have a few questions since we are headed out again in December....

Is the CC gift different based on level?
What is the onboard reception like? I've been to DVC member parties on board so if it is anything like those, no thanks!

The CC gift is basically the same from level to level. It just changes colors

At the reception, they may be serving finger foods, or you may just get the rice krispie mickey treats. We're about 50/50 on this. Then the captain gives a little talk (DCL plug), you may view a video again pushing how great DCL is. And there are various officers making the rounds of the crowd that you can talk to. DH had a real nice, long talk with the engineering officer on one cruise.

For us, the best perk is being able to schedule shore excursions before the silver and newbies.

The first (and last) CC reception we attended was such a yawner we won't bother to go back. They didn't even serve the rice krispy Mickey treats. RCCL serves hot and cold appetizers, nice desserts and has live music. The food makes the "pep talk" a lot more palatable. We were almost too full for dinner that night. (I said almost.)

Same for us. Also love even earlier online checkin. We do go to the CC reception - even though it generally isn't too exciting! We enjoy it all the same though. I admit I look forward to Platinum one day for additional perks! :)

Last month was our first gold cruise. The gifts were a bag and a photo album. They were nice
We attended the reception and enjoyed it. There were light appetizers (bruschetta, mini shrimp cocktails)
The crew made the rounds and were talked with the training manager for the hotel division. She was personable and informative the captains talk was short. We then took a picture with Mickey (pretty short line!)
We grabbed some Mickey rice Krispy treats on the way out
We enjoyed the time (maybe an hour) and will go back on the next cruise. Maybe at some point it will get old, but not yet.

Hi,

My family's last cruise was our first gold cruise! Your DCL lanyard will be gold instead of sliver! Something that has not been mentioned yet in the thread is the fact that you might get a 10% discount on merchandise. I love this perk when I went shopping at Treasure Ketch and Mickey's Mates on the Wonder. Have fun on your first cruise as a gold Castaway Club member!

On our last cruise we received an additional gift (umbrella) in our gold colored bag. Enjoy!

Regarding the 10% discount on merchandise, I thought I have read somewhere that this is no longer offered as a perk.
Can someone pls confirm whether you still get the 10% discount ?

I was on the Magic in February and had the 10% applied to my purchases. Don't know if anything has changed since then?

We still received the 10% discount in April. Last time I checked it was still showing as a benefit on this website.

What it says is "Special Merchandise Offering Take advantage of special onboard shopping opportunities."

So, sometimes (most times) there is some sort of discount, or offer of "spend $100.00 and get XXX as a gift".

It varies

I would assume it would as it applied to pain killers in the shop on my last cruise. I think it just applies to anything sold.

Last cruise was November. Got the gold bag with umbrella. My daughter is silver and only got the bag...no umbrella. Got the 10% off at the stores, but not on tequila purchase.

We had our first Gold Cruise on the Fantasy in April 2014. I would recommend wearing your Gold lanyard, only because my mum was wearing hers and she was in the queue at Guest Relations. There were people in front of her but a member of staff came straight up to her and asked if they could help. I don't know if this is common practice but you do seem to get an even better (if that's possible) level of service.
