this is sorta creepy how warm it is over here. I looooove the cold weather and weather.com just keeps teasing me. *sigh. oh well. It's Texas. At least I'm in Austin, it's a little drier. Everytime I go home to Houston, it's just...ick! haha! Weather is agreeable though. low 70's.....please get cold! please get cold!!! :bounce: :bounce: :bounce:

I consider the "ick" factor here in Houston to be training weather for Disney!! People say they get off the plane in Orlando and the humidity hits them...I just say, "Aaaaah, feels just like home!" I train 24-7 for Disney!!

speaking of training, do any of ya'll do a lot of walking right now to prepare for the 8-10 mile/day marathons that we're about to endure? I just broke in my new shoes and jogging a lot everyday...i wonder how i find time to do that. but anyways..any pre-trip physical training?

I have two DDs, 10 and 6 so that is a workout keeping up with them, lol! I do hit the gym about 3 days a week, anyway. But, other than that, no extra training! Breakin' in new shoes, tho, is a definite must. Maybe I can talk my DH into a whole new Disney workout program that should be done several times a year!!??!! It's worth a try!!

yeah totally, don't wanna cramp up or run outta energy. but im sure that taking care of the rugrats would up and maintain your endurance! :bounce:

You're not kiddin'!! They both do gymnastics and the 10yo does 15 hours at the gym...she has the "6-pack" abs and everything. The only 6-pack I have is in the 'fridge, lol!! They have a lot of endurance, so it is a workout just keepin' up!

I will be there Dec 29th thru Jan 5th with my 2 girls ages 12 and 13. We are staying at Pop Century. Probably their last trip until they are 35. They are getting to that age where they think that they are to cool for Disney or to be seen with anyone over the age of 18.
Have been to Disney numerous times but never at Christmas. I can't wait! Actually in my entire life I have never vacationed anywhere but Disney either at the parks or on the cruise line! Packing on the agenda for this weekend and also a temp. plan of attack for those first few very crowded days. My guess is that we will simply pick a park a day and do what we can and then plan on going back after the crowds ease a bit after the 1st. Have not decided on where to spend NYE, although I would like to be at MK we will take an official vote this weekend. Any suggestions? T

We will be there Dec 30-Jan 6. I know what you mean about your kids deciding they are 'to cool' for Disney. My son is 12 and he asked me not to tell anyone where we are going!!!

We will be in EPCOT on NYE. From what everyone says, all parks (except AK) will be packed to the rim. So I just pick where you want to be and tough it out. We want to be in EPCOT, we are staying at the Dolphin and we feel like there is more room to move around with large crowds there. We have been several times (7), but only once at such a crowded time. That was when I was a kid, however. It was only MK then, and I think it was so different as to not compare. So this will be a new experience for us all. On Jan 2, we move to the Poly so we will do MK then.

I know what you mean about the weather. It can really change quickly that time of year. We have gone twice in early-mid December. One time we were sweating in shorts at MVMCP. ANother we were freezing all day long with seemingly everything we had brought to wear on. We go for the layering.

Haha! :teeth: I remember when I was 10-12 and when i wanted to go to Disneyland, i made sure that NONE of my cousins would know cuz they would always make fun of me. they still do to this very day, but in that mature humorous kinda way. i could care less now. it's the perfect distraction-filled escape for me, and I'm ADD so it works VERY well!

:bounce: :hyper: :bounce: :hyper: :bounce:

And Addicted, we're trying to decide where we will be during NYE too. MK would be the best because of the sentimentals of it all but i don't even wanna imagine the crowd. But still, it is the MK. So I would pick MK, then EPCOT, then MGM, and if they're all booked and packed, then Pleasure Island. But definitely in one of the parks for us. It's just me and my girlfriend so it should be relatively easy for us to squeeze through a sea of people.

Make SURE you pack your gloves, coat, hat, etc!!! We just returned from our 11/28 - 12/8 trip, and it was freezing! The wind chills really can get you. One afternoon at MGM, I even had to buy my dd a beach towel to keep her warm! We were totally unprepared for the weather, and I even checked the forecast daily before we left for our trip!

Here's hoping you have lots of sunshine! :sunny:

I've been reading these threads for awhile on suggestion that comes to mind is that you should bring rain ponchos. I bought some at REI for $4.50. Bought them in Blue because I heard the WDW ones are yellow. Easier to spot your group in the rain!

I'm also packing everything(at least it feels like it) and it just me and DH. Already started packing.

We're more ride people and aren't to particular where we eat. We think we're going to try and eat our big sit down meal around 2-3pm and then just snack in the evening. Don't have any PS, we're more fly by the seat of our pants kind of people. Since we don't have any kids we're going to try and hit all the late shows.

Hoping to be in MK for NYE. Would like to see Fireworks and then ride some rides while everyone exits the park. What a great way to celebrate the new year.

For Fantasyland I plan on using the same stratagy that I use for DL which is to hit Fantasyland after the fireworks. Almost everyone is heading for the exit and the waits are really short on the rides.

I look forward to hearing what everyone else plans on doing.

We'll be there - it's a Xmas present from my dad & stepmom to our family (well, actually to our 4 yr old but being his parents we get in on the benefits!). It's a surprise trip - leaving South Fl Xmas morning. Living here year round I am ready for all weather. I'm skipping the shorts though, we can handle 70-80degree weather in jeans.

If you are planning on staying at MK til closing - midnight - bring sweaters, gloves, hats and a blanket - it gets cold and if it happens to rain it'll be damp.

Come prepared and have fun!!!!

Christmas w/ Mickey and friends - who cares about weather and crowds.

We're all prepared for cold and rainy weather and they have a heatwave? Wouldn't that be funny. Bringing shorts and swimsuit as well as jacket, gloves and rainponcho.

One additional note from a girl who goes to alot of amusement parks. Jeans or jean shorts are not good to wear if you are going on a water ride, ie splash mountain. They take forever to dry. I recomend khaki's. Jeans are good for the evening when your not planning on riding the water rides. ;)

i completely agree with Hammertime on the jeans thing. I absolutely hate walking around all day in wet jeans and then it's starts to get really chilly....brrrrrrrr anyways, i hate it.

We'll definitely be ready for all kinds of weather. I just hope that if it rains, it doesn't rain on the fireworks show...especially NYE. I just received my documents from Disney and I can't even believe the school year is over already. haha. I can't wait till the 26th. christmas is coming too....

:bounce: Thnx! for the replies!!! Keep em coming!!! :bounce:

Well, we've been going down to WDW for NYE from 1992,
only missing 2000... we've had every kind of
weather imaginable from 80's to the 14deg. day.
( I watched the World Showcase Lagoon steaming like Lake Michigan in a COOOLD
Chicago winter)... strange......

We usually have our squall jackets from our
travel down from Chicago, and I pack down vests
in the travel bin that I ship to my parents before
we get there. Quite often, we go from sweatshirts to shorts and back to sweatshirts in one day
running around the parks!
Take swimsuits -we should be able to swim at
least one day the seven we're there...

I think that we're
ready as far a PS requests, and we're staying in
a OKW Grand Villa for the first 6 days and then
in the Contemporary Resort for our last night there!

Strange, my oldest DD (who will be 16 in May)
still gets excited when we get close to the parks.. she makes sure that we let her know
when we get to "Mickeys Expressway" (where
the county stops maintaining the roads, and WDW takes over)...

18 days to go!!!!!! whoo hoo!!!!

Startin' to stress a little. We will be at my mom and dad's near Austin from 12/24 - 12/27. That gives me TWO days to pack...we leave the 30th very early in the am. Can't pack now 'cause my DD10 is super nosy and would know something was up...don't want to ruin the surprise!! OK, deep, calming breaths...breathe...breathe....OK, that's not working:crazy:

LOTS of stuff to bring home. haha. but anyways, it'll all be ok. it's vacation time!
