Filling the CB with Debates- Yes or No

Come on folks - let's get real here..

There have ALWAYS been "debates" on the CB - as well as many of the other boards - so please refrain from acting as though the CB group is "above" engaging in debates..

Topics that come to mind are:

"Do you think this punishment is fair?"

"Should I confront my son's teacher about this?"

"Would you attend a wedding/shower/birthday party etc., if...?"

"Is this a bit much?"

I've witnessed some regular CB'ers get very hot under the collar in regards to certain posts, so before you paint all the DB'er's and debate threads as horrible things that you don't want to see here, you might want to look back on a whole slew of threads that have been posted on the CB which CB'er's responded to and then turned into "debates"..

ITA C. Ann. They are slumming and they don't even know it. I have seen many threads get just as heated here as "there".

Of course there has been C. Ann and thats part of the point. It would be impossible to have any kind of internet board without some debate. The question becomes do we need a seperate board to "feature" it. A debate can follow all of the board guidelines and still be valid. As a matter of fact a debate following board guidelines would probably be a better debate than the trash sessions we used to see on the debate board.

I recall a mod pming me on the Prostitots thread to ask me to not post so the thread would go away so I stopped posting to it as I had posted something that a couple people didn't like and they wouldn't let it go the thread finally went away.

No. I am just as unhappy to see the DB gone as the DBers are. I am thin skinned and I may not be frequenting the CB as much anymore.

Maybe some of the regular posters on the DB could volunteer to moderate a new DB so those few people that made the DB turn sour could be watched better? I bet there could be people that would volunteer to moderate a new DB. Anyhoo, I better just keep away from any posts that look like debateable posts from now on.

If the DB was moderated as it should have been, this would have happened there, and it would have been like the DB of old.

Just for the sake of "filling" it? No, that's rude to say the least.

A sub-board of the CB like the birthdays would work for me, but that would probably require just as much work as the separate board did. Oh, well.

As for the DB, why not a DB with no moderators at all!!! The inly rule should be no profane language, but after that let things go where they go!!

Although I hate to see the DB go, I realize that it's Pete's board and he can do whatever he wants with it..

The issue I DO have a problem with is the CB'er's who are implying that they are "above" ever engaging in a "debate" and acting as though anyone who "has" is going to "invade" the CB and turn it into a horrible free-for-all.. NEWS FLASH - They need look no further than the end of their noses to find folks who engage in heated "debates" right here on the CB (and have been doing so for a long, long time) so please, enough of the "Woe is me - there goes the neighborhood" routine..

I think they will after a few complaints or they will just put up with it.... I for one am not going away and I see some aren't either. People may have had a "claim" to this board before but sense we were evicted we came here. We are allowed to post as long as it is respectable so I will do that. I don't think I am going to put out as "hey I posting so don't look you CB regs". Should you say "hey my son is getting picked on so you DB don't have to look?" no... this is my board you say ... no this is owned by a private person as I have been told, so I am telling you.... am sorry but I am not a bad person and I am tired of people assuming I am because I posted at the DB!

I agree ginna I am not going anywhere and I will post debates some I will post inthe header as debates some I may not I guess we will all have to read posts to see what is what on here now.

If heated debates are going to be allowed on the Community Board, then add my vote to bringing the Debate Board back! If more moderators are needed then I volunteer.

Don't worry Disneylvr, all posts will have to follow the site guidelines and that pretty much precludes the debates getting too heated. I think it's going to be fine

Glad to hear that! Thanks WMA. The US vs Europe/Canada debates were getting too heated IMHO. It was so obvious that neither side was going to back down or change their opinion yet the debates on the Iraq War/Bush/Us Military/Prisoner Abuse kept multiplying every day and were taking over the DB. Posters had to keep adding the word "Fluff" to the title of regular debates to separate them from the war debates.

So far so good and I have even posted they are debates inthe topic line to make it easier for people to discerne (sp).
