Hello Everyone! :flower3:

Has anyone ever attended or participated in Filene's Running of the Brides? From what I read it can be chaotic but you can find a great deal on designer gowns at a reasonable price. What has been your experience? Thanks! :thumbsup2

I've been twice...once just for fun when our Filene's first opened and then this year. It is crazy caotic, but if you plan on going after 10am, you'll still find tons of dresses. They aren't in any order.

You will most likely need to get the dressed cleaned and maybe fixed, but they had some great deals. Most dresses are size 6-12, but you can find other sizes. I'm a size 2, and threwout 8 racks packed of dresses I found 4 dresses. One was a $3k Vera Wang for $700, but I didn't love it.

My friend is a larger size and found several dresses she loved, but didn't end up buying one there.

I did it and absolutely loved it! I got an incredible dress for only $250. It was a little chaotic, but we had a good time, despite me being sick throughout the morning. I will say this - don't go by yourself! If I hadn't taken a bridesmaid with me, I would have been lost. As it was, it was crowded, but people were really nice. We were all excited and happy and complimenting each other and helping each other grab sizes. You can read more about it in my planning journal if you want to, but my advice is: do it!

when does this event usually take place?

its not happening near me but i think i will drive out to dc for the july 31 event:dance3:

It always makes the news here in Mass, there have been a lot of fist fights. Scary crowd! I might actually brave it though. :) I really nered to find an affordable dress. And well, Im short but I am scrappy! Ill bring my scary friends.

How well would something like this work for a petite person? I am 4'10" so I know that finding a wedding dress is going to be a complete PITA. I would love to do something like this, but I'm afraid there will simply be nothing there or I'll end up paying more for alterations than I would for just buying a dress that fits from the beginning.

It is nice to see this store still plans on doing this major sale... I know the company is in trouble. They closed I think three (maybe just two though) of the four stores here in the Chicagoland area, plus other stores across the U.S. But hopefully you find a bargain! :thumbsup2

Most of the dresses are samples so you'd have to get it altered shorter, but if you find a great dress at a 1/10th of the price even with alterations you still come out ahead.

I have gone a few times and brought a friend to help... It was really fun and I found a few dresses that I liked but no definites....

Like the above poster.. I am also 4"10 so it will be kinda hard to find a dress, But I am hoping to find a good one at some point.. :grouphug:

That's the one I'm going to with my sister. She wants to camp out overnight :scared1: You would have thought this was the American Idol auditions :lmao:

People camp the one here in Atlanta. Publix and Starbucks (which are in the same block) bring out small shots of coffee and fruit to help keep everyone fed about an hour before store opening.

:woohoo:I'm doing the August 21st event in Boston... hoping to drag along a few of my friends for the ride. My MOH is in for sure. Can't pass up a chance at a designer gown for $699!!

one of my good friends did it and she said that it was so much fun. She also said that you've got to be prepared for craziness!

a little tip: Remember to bring a group of friends along with you, so that they can grab dresses in your size and hold them aside for you :)

I'm thinking of going to the one August 21st in Boston... I live in Arlington but have a friend who lives right near the Hynes convention center where it is being held....:cheer2:
