Does Figment ride still open??
Thank's

Sure.

Its "nothing" compared to its original ride from back in the '80's, but this version does feature Figment, something that the previous-to-this-version did not do.

Journey Into Imagination (1983-1998) [Figment and Dreamfinder]
Journey Into Your Imagination (1999-2001) [No Figment]
Journey Into Imagination With Figment (2002-Present) [Figment]

We rode it a few weeks ago and were really disappointed - it is really not up to Disney standards. I think they need to redo it again. :)

Yeah - the 80's version was the best....anyone remember that perfume bottle that sprayed out that "imagination smell".? :cloud9: To this day if I smell something similiar I think of that.

I have no idea what this ride was like in the 80's, but my ds6 and dd6 both loved this ride. My dh and I thought it was cute. What did it used to be like?

It was one of the l-o-n-g-e-s-t most complex, interesting, fun, and entertaining attractions in all of Walt Disney World.

It defies description.

It featured different rooms each devoted to a single aspect of the imagination.

There are on, YouTube (or similar) sites, old videos of the attraction.

Its sorely missed!

yes, definitely defies description, the videos on youtube probably give you somewhat of an idea but of course nothing is like being on the actual ride.

There is a thread on the rumors board about possibly changing the ride again and someone was asking why we think the old version was better. I started to explain the new one, which was easy to do, but the old one is much more difficult to describe exactly, which is why I think it was done so much better.

Why, oh why, do they mess with success????

Well, I've heard that part of Kodak's original sponsorship deal was that they would have to change the ride by the year 2000...Kodak probably had no idea how bad things would get at WDI by then

I miss that old one so much. The new one is pretty lame in comparision although I am thankful to see figment back. My ds hates the bang at the end so we've been avoiding it lately

Never saw the old Figment, but I do love the new one!!

Let me compare them like this.

Think of a "new" version of Wizard of Oz, if Dorothy went to Oz, and the first time she met the good witch in Munchkinland, Glinda told her that she could go home by clicking her heels together... and she did.

:confused3

Similarly, Disney simply took virtually ALL of the story and adventure out of the Imagination attraction.

In the original JiI, there was a very complex and interesting scene where we were introduced to Figment by his "creator," Dreamfinder (who, himself, was a rather jovial "Santa Claus-type" character,) and together they then escorted us through many scenes which portrayed the use of imagination in the fields of Theater, Music, Science, Art, Films, and much more.

This was an attraction that paid homage to what Disney is famous for... all aspects of creativity! And they used every sort of lighting, film imagery, laser, and sound effect technology available at that time to convey the message.

The "tracks" that the omnimover cars traversed (same cars they have now, and some of the same tracks they have now) were very long and complex. It seems like they "chopped off" at least half the the ride when they "upgraded" it the first time.

I can NOT see HOW ANYONE would consider that and "UPGRADE!"

What if (heaven forbid) they cut Madame Leota's seance, and the ballroom, attic, and graveyard scenes out of Haunted Mansion during an "upgrade?"
I don't think guests would be too happy with that, either. ;)

By comparison to its original popular form, Journey Into Imagination now simply is not much of an attraction at all.
And I think the mostly empty queues attest to that opinion.

DD9 fell in love w/ Figment on our visit last summer. She has viewed video of the original ride online & moans at least weekly that she wishes she could see the original. Needless to say, we might have had to had security remove her from the ride if it was the original -- absolutely a fabulous ride we miss very much.

DD9, indeed!

You can't fool me...

I think I remember that it was YOU, back in the day, who had to be physically removed (kicking and screaming) from this attraction so the CMs could finally close Epcot for the night.

(I know, because I had Super-Glued myself into the next car.)

:thumbsup2

Totally, totally uncool to break my cover & reveal my secret identity like that. Are you a pal of Scooter Libbey -- or maybe you ARE Scooter Libbey! ;)

(Although truth be told, if I had known what was to come, there might have been shall we say an "incident" before the travesty was allowed to go on. :rolleyes1 )

I haven't seen the new version yet, only the orginal...does anyone know if the current one still plays that catchy tune: "IMAGIIINAAAtion ..IMAGIIINAAAtion.....a dream, a dream, a dream come true... that little spark from me to you...."??

So sorry to tell you that it's gone. The current version is easier to swallow than the one without Figment, but pales in many ways (including musically) to the original. DD9 fell in love w/ Figment on this version -- I'm sure the tiny stuffed version we bought her wouldn't be nearly enough if she could experience the original.

Nope, the "Imaginination" song ("One Little Spark") is back along with Figment.

Its a major part of the finale.
Don't you recall Dr. Nigel Channing (played by Eric Idle) as "the Man in the Moon" (with his "head" rocking back and forth) singing the song along with Figment?

The song USED to be a HUGE part of the original attraction, but now, it is much reduced (along with everything else.)
