Why? To me this is the worst possible way to decide what was a fantastic game. Either go back to Golden Goal in ET or keep running ET until there is a winner, like in hockey. To me, this would be like deciding the World Series with a HR derby or a Super Bowl with a field goal kicking contest.

The (supposedly) most important athletic event in the world is decided by a stupid shootout. Phooey!!! That’s bush league.

Such a thing may be a reason why soccer isn’t more popular in the US. Most Americans aren’t willing to accept mediocrity like PKs.

Not in the playoffs. Regular season game, even group play, do whatever stupid thing you want. When you are deciding the championship of a team sport, it should be decided by team play.

Soccer players run 7-10 miles a match. That’s way more than traditional American sports.
