I do get the sport as I have watch the game for 12 plus years. This referee changed the game more than usual. I guarantee that FIFA will review his calls and suspend him. I very frustrated with how this game went. We lose or draw to England and we are finished. We need a 1950 type of performance to have a chance. England is all but guaranteed to be first now and play half way against Wales just to get the necessary point.

Why on Earth would we be finished if we draw England? Then, we'd only need an Iran win to advance...

OK, let's say England and Wales Draw (assuming we draw England and everyone beats Iran).

England: 5 pts
US: 5 pts
Wales: 5 pts

So now it comes down to GD against Iran. Wales doesn't know how many they need (England set the bar pretty high). We *WILL* know how many we need when we play Iran.

So we are not "finished" if we draw England. In fact, we would control our own destiny going into the last game, which is one step down from the best you can hope for.

I agree if we lose either of the last two games we're done. A draw and a win however and we're in the hunt. Two draws and we'll need a lot of help.

I fear the two draws. We will need the movie blockbuster performance win against England. Plus, a win will give this team dark horse status.

I thought you said you knew the game. A loss or draw and we are not finished. We should beat Iran easily, although it may come to goal differential.

England and Wales will have a back room deal in the works. England is stronger than in 2010. Wales was supposed to be the easy game. That bad penalty from Zimmerman will be the difference for our group stage points total. England’s 6 goals were not a fluke.

Not taking anything from England, but a college team would have looked like Brazil against that Iran defense.

I'm also wondering if the protests in Iran are taking the nationalistic air out of the team and could work to our benefit. Everyone was worrying that Iran would be up against the Evil Empire, but I don't think their hearts are in it.

I know the game but I’m realistic on what will most likely will happen. Iran is a good team and show their best quality when playing the USA. Wales vs England bring out the same type of emotions that throw predictability out the window. If we tie England, we will be out of this group stage with Iran being a rubber match. Wales will beat Iran barely. England will thrash us this time around if they want to guarantee knockout qualification. We need to win and yesterday was not a confidence booster. The USA can win but they need to play to the best of their ability that they are capable of.

Argentina lost to Suadi Arabia. I told people that this would happen. 🤯

Denmark vs Tunisia just ended with a 0-0 draw.

Mexico vs Poland is coming up at 11am ET.

France (current champs) vs Australia is on at 2pm ET today.

Please explain.

If we draw England and Wales beats Iran Friday, the table will look like this (with one game remaining):

England: 4
Wales: 4
US: 2
Iran: 0

England and Wales play each other. So either they both end up with 5, or one has 7 (group winner) and the other 4.
If they draw (leaving them both with 5), and we beat Iran, that puts a three way tie for 1st. Then it's GD to figure out who's going through.
If England or Wales win against the other, and we beat Iran, we go through.

Now, you might think you know what will happen, but didn't you think we'd beat Wales?

After Messi lost today, easy game mentality is done. We need to win both matches for results and confidence. If we can beat England, the small nation mentality in the sport will finally end.

The rich owners who the own the PL teams might pressure the Wales and England FA (this stuff has happened in the WC before unfortunately).
To what gain? So the US players can return to their PL teams (assuming US is knocked out)?

Not following your logic. We need at least 4 points in the next two games. Three won't cut it. I never said we're guaranteed to go through. But we CAN go through with a draw in the next match.

You've been called out on your statement that if we draw against England, we're finished. Multiple people have asked you to explain, and you're dodging the question.

What "small nation mentality" will end with a win against England? The people who don't care for soccer still won't care for soccer. Those that do, will continue to. *IF* the US makes a deep run in the knockout stage (say win at least two games), you might find some added interest. If they make the finals? Yea, there might be some converts, but soccer will still be at least the #3 sport (behind football and basketball), possibly the #4 or #5 (hockey and baseball) in the US.

The Eurosnob USA soccer fans who think we won’t win anything with GGG or other MLS coaches in charge. I know the minimum is 4 points but 6 leaves all doubt out.
