I have been reading with interest the posts about the kids clubs/lab, etc. We are traveling on the 3 day Wonder July 25 and are traveling with two other families. It will be myself and DD (9) and the other two families have girls age 10. These kids are all gymnasts on a competitive team and spend a lot of time together and are great friends.....

WELL.....here is my dilemma. If we take the kids to the club, my daughter will be separated from her two friends, not a good situation. I have considered telling a fib and telling them my daughter is 10..........am I being terrible?????

Any thoughts???

Just remember that you need birth certificates to sail and that DCL will know exactly how old your children are so fibbing won't work.

Your only option would be to have the two older girls go to the 8 & 9 year old club with your daughter. You could also try being up front and explaining the situation to the counselors and see if they'll make an acception. I'd be honest with them though.

Since you must show a birth certificate for every person in your party, they already know your daughters age. Just explain the situation. If the younger child can not "move up" then the older may be able to "move down". I am sure it will all work out fine!

I know that Disney Cruise Line is not the same company as Premiere Cruise Lines.. but years ago when we sailed on the Big Red Boat my son and daughter were separated by age groups but when we explained the situation and after agreeing that my son would fit well in the age group above, they moved him up without a problem. Be honest and I don't believe you will have a problem.

I want to be honest but a lot of the posts I have read said they are VERY strict. I didn't know if you had to show the birth certificates in the club.

Over the past few weeks I have thought about this and it is about to drive me crazy. My first thought was to be completely honest, which is usually what I do .... and BEG!!!!!! It will be a disaster for my child to be separated from her friends......I don't want this to ruin the cruise for her. I guess, if they refuse, we will have to go our on way on the cruise, which will also be a disaster.

Oh well........I'm beginning to think this may not have been a great idea.

Hi KML2000,

YES, they are strict about moving kids around in the clubs, but in our experience (4/6 Magic) it is mostly for 12yr. olds who want to move up to the Teen group. This is something our daughter wanted to do - we said NO! The Oceaneer Lab staff was also wonderful about stepping in and being the bad guy and saying that it was absolutely impossible to move into the teen area. HOWEVER, our 7yr old, who will be 8 on 5/1, was able to move from the Oceaneer Club (5-7) into the 8-9 group in the Lab where she had a friend.

So, I guess it depends on the situation.

I have a just turned 10 year old who split her time between the 10 to 12 year old group where her sister and cousin were and the 8 to 9 year old group where a lot of the activities appealed to her. It was our experience that the children could easily go bewteen age groups and that most f the time they were all together anyways. It will certainly work out. Have fun!

We were on our 3rd cruise in January and our 6 year old really wanted to be with his just turned 8 brother as they had been in the 5-7 age group twice already. We asked and the younger brother was allowed to move up as long as his older brother was with him and he behaved and fit in. It all worked great and the only problem we encountered was the older wanted to be with us and the younger in the club. The younger was not allowed to stay by himself. They are just over a year apart and we are pleased that Disney looked at the sitation and worked with us. They were happy to do the new "older" activities. We cruised in January and will do the $99 cruise in Nov. and the ages will now be 7 and 8 and we will ask once again for these "seasoned" cruisers to be together. It worked for us - so ask and try.

Hi Niagara - I just thought of you today. Matthew asked if Brandon was going to be in the Club with him in two weeks. I had to tell him no. I was so happy that he remembered him from that cruise.

I am glad to hear these comments, my daughter is mature for her age, which I think is a result of the discipline of the gymnastics. I really don't think she will be in the clubs much, but I was hoping to MAYBE do some spa thing...just for myself. I am a single mother and could use a little "pampering" for me. :)

On our 10/00 cruise, our DD was 9 ( but mature for her age) She wanted to be in the 10-12 group so she could be with a friend she made in line waiting to board the ship. We requested it, they said to bring in that night & they'd try it. When we went to pick up, they commented that DD was more mature than the 11 &12 yr. olds. Don't worry, just request it! Don't fib, the computer has their B day info in it from your cruise docs.

We have a 10 and a 7 yr old. They are particular about moving them the rest of the posters are correct. You can move down but not up.

As for the age, they have the names in the computer. When you get on board, you can check them in the club, and you are asked to fill in some basic info for the younger ones. For the older one, all we did was say we are checking in, and give them the room number and they have his name and age!!!

Have fun and you DD will have a lots of fun....
